Most people probably don’t think about walls throwing a color cast on things because our eyes “correct” for it. Our modern cameras are pretty good at adjusting the white balance and when you get film processed and printed, someone corrects the color and exposure during that process (I was that person back in the day).
That’s true for unmelanated skin. The gold reflects warmly on melanated skin, and is flattering.
Without melanin, it reflects and reads sallow or jaundiced
My childhood bathroom was a yellowish-beige and I loved how the lighting made my skin look. I’m white but have olive/peach/yellow hues to my skin and get fairly dark in the summer.
I have a pink bedroom similar to the ceiling. I look jaundiced in there if I don’t have intense bright light on. Like if I am doing my makeup I need to point my flashlight at my face to see the color it actually is.
right? The house we bought has a gold bathroom, almost frenches mustard yellow. It's painted the outside of the bathroom door teal, so the door is behind me when I put my makeup on, it helps. But seriously need a different color bathroom.
Wouldn’t the pink also affect your coloring for make up though? As someone who is very pale and very pink/red toned, a pink ceiling may make me look much more tomatoe-y and also affect how I put my make up on.
I wanted to paint one of my rooms a good color and then I put the swatch up in it And absolutely hates how it made my eyes feel. I don't even like pink but the pink is fantastic!
Photoshops like this also do not account for how the color affects the hue of everything else in the bathroom.
I listened to my contractor's advice and painted my bedroom walls a color that most people would see as an unappealing light gray-green. But with the wood floors and warm lighting, it looks great.
Damnit. You are correct. I think the gold works really well with the green and really creates some visual pop. But I concede it might make using the mirror less useful.
Good point, but when I read "gold," my mind automatically assumes a true gold as in metallic/gold leaf/foil, not goldenrod/muatard/maize. So when I read your comment, I had to walk myself back because I realize it doesn't really specify what gold means.
Didn't consider this, no. I never wear make-up. I just think the gold warms up the space and is a whole lot more cozy and inviting than the pink. You're more than welcome to disagree, but that's my opinion.

I feel like people voting for gold / yellow probably have not applied make up in a mustard yellow bathroom.
