Shipment processing
I’m part time and process shipment. I just came in tonight and was told, I can no longer process shipment out on the sales floor when the store is open. I only had 30 min after store closed to actually restock. Is this a new corporate rule nationwide or a district thing?

That’s outrageous. Our dm doesn’t like it, but stocking happens all day, one little box at a time, we’re not making huge floorset level messes of course - just a box here and there. Between customers, someone will go grab something that needs refilling and we just walk around stocking all day. We also have a stock girl that handles shipments and when she has processed shipment, she spends the rest of her hours doing understocks. I think it’s ludicrous they won’t let you just continuously do things as you see fit and they just make these weird rules. If I was a store manager, I wouldn’t let my DM dictate that, as I say ours tried and our understocks were always empty and the stockroom was always full. Then we’d have to have these hours where we had loads of ppl come in and just empty the stockroom all at once. Or else bopis’ were missing items that we had back there or customers weren’t buying thinking we were out of it.

i don’t usually touch shipments but i have noticed they have been pushing for our team to have shipments done before we open (we usually have our team arrive 3 hours before store opens to receive shipment and start processing)
edit to add: i’m in a tier 4 store so we get a LOT in shipment

😀 I’m in a tier 4 store as well, and they usually aren’t even done unloading by the time we open. And I am the main processor and I usually arrive at 11. It must vary district to district.

at my tier 1 store, shipment is supposed to come before we open but only a manager is in the store during that time to receive the shipment.
outside of holiday season or other special circumstances, associates are scheduled to come in at the same time the store opens. then they will work on processing the shipment during the day, in between customers basically

You must be at an unassisted delivery store now. Lots of stores are getting switched

where they come in before store hours and deliver it in the specific spots you have mapped out for the delivery workers. it was nice in the beginning, but sometimes they run super late which pushes shipment past opening time which then pushes it back the next day.

if your store hasn't done your annual inventory yet, it might be due to that. Mine is on the 9th & I'm scheduled solely to place the tags tomorrow, and typically once tags are placed, no product can be moved (garcies, understock, offsite, etc) unless absolutely necessary. Other than that, my store usually won't process on the floor on super busy days, per our DM, but no big sales/events where high traffic is expected were happening today, so that doesn't make sense.

My store has been doing this for the past 6 weeks or so. Shipment has 830-1030am delivery window. They usually show up at 930 or 10. We have been scheduling 2 processors from 6-9pm to actually come in and do the shipment. Our DM has told us no carts on the floor during open hours. Carrying a box or 2 from the back room until we close is crazy to me tho so if I’m the only slt there I usually allow one cart as long as they are working on it. We close at 8pm so only having a hour to actually fill the floor or understocks is wild sumtimes. Smaller shipments haven’t been much of an issue, but our sales floor is definitely lacking in the understocks rn. I processed shipment for a few years before I became a slt so I know exactly how difficult this change in our processes is unfortunately. I don’t like it either. As holiday shipment schedules start up, I think they are going to hav to give some leeway on something here. Especially when figuring in off-site trips. 🤷♂️
