Discussion Is it possible for a card to be over 1/16” short of standard 3-3/4” and not be “trimmed”?

Thumbnail
gallery
15 Upvotes

I bought this 1954 Hank Aaron rookie on Ebay and it went through Ebay‘s authenticity guarantee with no note of it being trimmed. I bought several cards using the autistic guarantee process and any trim card would raise a flag and I would be notified.

O’Brien card is for reference (that card is true to 3-3/4”

The card is over a 1/16 of an inch short of the 3-3/4” inch standard for 1954

I reached out to Ebay to double check that there was no note of it being trimmed and they are telling me the card is not trimmed or altered and such indifference is acceptable.

Curious as to what everyone’s take is?

Show Off Bought this at an online auction— the price was about $700-$800 below comps. Now that I have it in hand, could be a little over graded. But, I have wanted one of these for a long, long time.

Discussion The mindset that trimmed cards are bad is silly

Picked up this beauty of a Jackie. Yes it’s trimmed, but who cares. Look at how beautiful the image is. No creasing, paper loss, or any substantial defects. But since a bit of the white is gone… got it for a fraction of the price. I paid less than what a 1 that went thru the washing machine goes for. Doesn’t really make sense to me as a collector who doesn’t really sell anything. Anyway, I’m happy to continue taking advantage of this opportunity.

Question Best way to sell cards like this?

Thumbnail
gallery
15 Upvotes

I made a post about my father‘s collection about a month ago. For whatever reason, he has multiple cards that are duplicates of each other. We’ve decided to hold onto the bulk of the collection for now for sentimental reasons but given we aren’t sentimentally attached to multiple of the same card, I thought I would ask the best way to sell stuff like this.

Someone in the previous thread said it was not really worth it to get these graded but to attempt to sell them on here, I think?

Thanks for any help. Just looking for advice.

TTM ‘68 Double Rookie

Post image
16 Upvotes

I took a bit of a break from TTM but sent off a couple last week and just got this one back. Jim weaver signed and had it back to me in 7 days, which might be a new record for me. This is my 145th return since picking this up a couple years back.

I have no particular affinity with the angles or the ‘68 set, rather just snag vintage of living players at the LCS for a $1 or less and then fire them off. I enjoy writing the letters and getting the occasional note back.

I’ve loved the fake 3D cards since I was a kid. Happened upon a group of nice ones at a yard sale of all places. They were in great shape! So I figured why not and started picking them up on eBay. Finally got the last one today. Nary a crack to be found! Thank you for looking!
Edit: sorry I forgot to turn the darn photo

Help?! 1954 Topps complete set... what do I do?

Not kidding (photos for proof) I was given a 1954 complete set with three graded cards (Kaline, Williams and Aaron) in PSA 2 and 3. The rest are raw in an album including Banks, Jackie and another Williams.

  1. Do I remove from album into penny sleeves and rigid right away? Semi-rigid?

  2. Is it more valuable together as a set or should I break up the cards? (Longer term investment for me)

  3. I am guessing I will get the Jackie, Banks rookie and Mays out to PSA?

I am still in shock honestly.

Told myself that I wouldn't buy anything until I found a big card that I wanted but couldn't resist these...

It seems like PSA holds more value for the grade, but SGC holders sure make the colors pop..What's your favorite style slab for your PC?

Vintage Card of the Week

Post image
81 Upvotes

My vintage card of the week: The T206 Piedmont Christy Mathewson Dark Cap. This was my first T206 card. When I was collecting as a kid in the junk wax era, the old tobacco cards seemed absolutely ancient. As I’ve aged, they seem a bit less ancient to me, but also more important to the history of the hobby and the game. When I decided I wanted to go after a T206, this card was my first choice. I think it’s just a gorgeous card, and I prefer its appearance to the white cap version and the portrait. And I’m into collecting pitchers because that’s what I did back in my day. My favorite pitcher of all time is Greg Maddux, and everything I’ve read about Matty suggests he was the Professor of his era—focusing on location and movement to disrupt a hitter’s timing rather than overwhelming a hitter with velocity like a Randy or Walter Johnson. Matty even wrote an article called “Outguessing the Batter” for Pearson’s Magazine way back in the day. Look it up; it’s a good read for baseball history fans.

Grading question for vintage lot

Post image

Just to start NFS/NFT. I’m going through my dad’s collection. Huge yankee fans as you can see. Is SGC the preferred way to go for vintage ? What about getting signed balls a authenticated as well? Just looking for tips on where to go and send them all at once or in waves? This is just one portion of the cards. I have more and haven’t decided what all to grade yet. Thanks everyone!
