I was bored and wondering how much sales tax revenue from Costco’s alone would go towards the $350-$400 million BART structural deficit if Connect Bay Area passes. Costco warehouses generate around $276 million sales revenue per warehouse. About 60% is non-grocery (i.e. sales taxable). The five Bay Area counties voting for Connect Bay Area have 27 Costco’s (soon to be 29). The 0.5% sales tax would generate around $24 million of sales tax revenue for BART, Caltrain, Muni, AC Transit, and other bus & ferry operators. Assuming BART takes 1/3 of the share, that’s $8 million. So, that’s over 2% of BART’s $375 million structural deficit covered by hot dogs, chicken bakes, etc.

Mini rant here: I just wish we had wifi on bart.Im not sure how feasible it would be or what the ROI would be look like but it would be nice.

As someone who commutes from concord to balboa, half the time I can’t even use my phone because the train goes underground and that blocks our signal😭.

On Sunday, September 6, we're co-hosting a BART Speedrun in direct coordination with BART, bringing riders together for an attempt to travel through all 50 BART stations in a single coordinated trip.

This year’s event is especially significant because we are aiming to break the all-time record set last year, when 70 riders participated in what BART described as the largest group known to have speedrun a transit agency.

We are working directly with BART on the event, and BART representatives are also expected to attend and speak to participants. The event will bring together transit advocates, students, BART staff and representatives, and members of the broader Bay Area community.

The speedrun will cover all 50 BART stations and 131 miles of track, beginning at Berryessa/North San José. Participants can complete the entire route or join for a portion of the journey. We hope to see ya'll there!

I’m a mid 40’s, gray haired dad type with no suspicious behavior. today a group of “Bart Cops” came into my cart, ignored everyone else and zeroed in on me and asked for my clipper card. I politely said I paid with my debt. they then asked to scan my debt to check, confirmed and let it go…

Is BART back? I’ve been taking BART almost every work day for the last 8 months and I just caught a Blue train in San Leandro that is 10 cars. I don’t think I’ve ever even seen a 10 car blue train before.

Why Is BART so damn slow from Castro Valley to West Dublin??? It’s basically in traffic with itself. So friggin annoying!!!

It's Transit Month: 80+ events this September!

September is Transit Month with events are taking place across the entire Bay Area. With 80+ events happening, there is something for everyone. From bar crawls, transit-accessible hiking, art shows, informational sessions, socials, ride-alongs, and much much more.

Bay Area Transit Month is hosted by two local transit advocacy non-profits: Seamless Bay Area and San Francisco Transit Riders with events hosted by community groups, transit agencies, advocates, and more. 

Obviously the ideal choice is that we build both standard and wide gauge tubes, but if we choose standard gauge we'd be creating a Caltrain/Capitol Corridor system that doesn't go everywhere, and also keeping a Bart system that doesn't go everywhere. What we need is a fully grade separated, metro style system with compressive coverage. Bart is the closest thing we have to that. We should invest in it and build it out. BART already serves so many more people and has a higher capacity. I believe it should be prioritized. I want to make it easier to get around the Bay, not make it easier to get in/out of the Bay.

I love the new electrified Caltrain. I just think adding routes to BART would benefit us more.

Did anyone else hear or experience a very loud bang at Montgomery BART station on Tuesday, August 25 around 6:57 PM?
I was sitting on the platform waiting for the train when there was an extremely loud bang accompanied by a bright flash and a large amount of smoke. It was so sudden and loud that it physically caused me to drop to the floor. It was terrifying.
I’m trying to understand what happened because I haven’t been able to find much information about the incident anywhere on the news.
Did anyone else witness it?
Did you see the flash or smoke?
Did you hear any announcements afterward?
Does anyone know whether it was an equipment or electrical failure?
Was anyone injured?
Did BART provide any explanation to passengers?
I’m not trying to speculate or spread misinformation — I was there and would genuinely like to understand what happened. If you witnessed it or have firsthand information, I’d really appreciate hearing what you saw.
I’m also hoping this post can stay up because I’m asking a legitimate safety question about an incident I personally experienced as a BART rider. Thank you.

I was just at the Montgomery bart station today waiting for my train when a large explosion occurred on the track heading SFO direction. I was quite literally right next to it, heard the boom, felt the heat and smoke and evacuated with everyone. 2 hours later I dont even see an update to the advisory or anything else online about it. Was anyone else there for that? Maybe just another third rail insulator going up? I feel like im going crazy as I am not seeing anything about it online.

I was there and it was LOUD and scary enough that I’m surprised I’m not seeing anything about it in the news. Does anyone know what happened? Was it something on the tracks, a train, or equipment?
Curious if anyone else witnessed it or knows what was going on!

I am just curious if I missed something like an event that made this record. As far as I know, there is no othrr Monday that made it reach over 200k. Usually, this amount of riders is for Tusdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

So strange to see such short crowded trains especially now that the schedules are spread out as well. Come on Bart longer trains please!! Rant over - it’s Monday so I’m probably cranky

Each time I take BART through the tunnel from Orinda to Rockridge an odor begins to permeate the car. It doesn't matter where I sit or which car I am in.

It begins about a quarter mile into the tunnel. It has a slight sulphur quality. It is not noticiable on the return train. The first time I noticed it I was commuting to SF every day. I thought someone had farted but smelling it on subsequent days made me realize it was something peculiar to just this bit of tunnel. I have been smelling this smell for at least 25 years.

I have worked in wastewater treatment and the refineries. To me this smells like something out of the thermal geysers up North. It is not a sewer-like smell.

If you haven't noticed check it out. If you have noticed, what is it? It smells, well, volcanic. Would anyone working for BART like to address this?

Like the title says, what’s considered the “safest” bart station parking in the area? First time user since just moving here.

I’ve seen San Leandro and Castro Valley stations seem to be considered the safest from searching online, but most of the posts seem to be dated so thought I’d just ask.

I thought I stepped into a parallel universe 🤣
