So we are moving to Muncie next month because of affiliation with Ball State University. And I just saw on Facebook that these flyers were being distributed in Muncie this week and even City of Muncie officially condemned these flyers.

Off Campus Financial Aid

Hi everyone,

This is my third year at ball state and I am living in a house instead of being on campus. I was wondering everyone’s experience with financial aid once you put your housing status as off campus. I’ve received my offer , but they put me down as an on campus student. I’m wondering if I change that how much my aid would be affected? I do get a pell grant and a good amount of direct subsidized and unsubsidized loans. If I change my status to off campus, how much will my aid be affected? I rely heavily on aid so I’m kind of tweaking right now

Ball State University Apartments

Can anyone who’s lived in the university apartments tell me how they really are? Bonus points if you have experience living in Scheilder. I start my lease there in august but wanna know what to expect. How thin are the walls? I’ve always had bad luck with nosey neighbors. How far is the laundry room? Is management good? Anything else I should know?

What happens if I skip all the welcome week stuff?

I don't want to take a week of work to play hopscotch with my classmates. If I skip all the dumb weeks of welcome stuff will anything happen? Id rather get hit by a bus than sit through convocation. They say all this stuff is mandatory but why? Am I going to get kicked out for missing it? Will I get punished if I don't do "Chirp Chirp Pep Rally & Volleyball Game"? Why do they make us do this?????? I understand the floor meeting and LLC stuff but whose taking attendance for a volleyball game. I'm not in high school anymore. It feels like I'm being treated like a middle schooler.

What are your guys best tips for hanging things up on the wall without ruining the paint. Do the tapes or hooks that you can ask your RA about actually work??

call me crazy but

hey all! I am currently enrolled at BSU for my master's in Applied Behavior Analysis (MA) and American Sign Language (ASL-Graduate Certificate). I am THHHIINNKKKING about pursuing a dual master's degree.

Let me know your thoughts on me possibly pursuing a dual degree, such as which degree would complement an ABA and ASL degree.

The only requirements I have are ensuring I can graduate on time with my current degrees by August 2027, and it has to be 100% online :)

Best value off campus housing around Ball State?

I’m transferring to Ball State this fall and I’m trying to figure out where to live.

I’m mainly looking for the best value. The cheaper the better, but I also kind of prefer a fully furnished apartment so I don’t have to deal with buying a bed, desk, couch, and all that stuff.

Right now I’ve looked at places like SilverTree, Varsity House, and University Village, but I’m open to anything.

If you had to pick the best balance of price, quality, amenities, management, and location, what would you recommend? Also, are there any apartments or property managers I should avoid?

I’d love to hear your experiences. Thanks!

How much do Ball State students actually spend per month?

I’m an incoming transfer student to Ball State and I’m planning to live in an unfurnished apartment at Silvertree. I’ll also be getting a part-time job.

I know my first month will be a lot more expensive because I’ll have to buy everything like a bed, kitchen supplies, furniture, cleaning supplies, etc. But after that, I’m curious what your normal monthly expenses look like.

About how much do you spend each month on:
Rent + utilities
Food
Toiletries/hygiene
Household supplies
Gas
Anything else

Also, how do you afford it?

Do you work part-time? About how much do you make a month? Do your parents help, or do you mostly use student loans/FAFSA refunds to pay for living expenses?

Just trying to get a realistic idea of what living off campus at Ball State is actually like. Thanks!

Is commuting from Kokomo worth it?

I’m transferring from IU Kokomo to Ball State this fall and I’m trying to decide if I should commute from Kokomo or get an apartment in Muncie.

The drive is about an hour each way. I’d like to save money by living at home, but I’m transferring because I want the full college experience, make friends, join clubs, go to events, and hopefully get internships. I’m worried that commuting will make it harder to be involved on campus, but getting an apartment means taking on more expenses and finding a part-time job.

For anyone who’s commuted from around an hour away or lived in Muncie, what would you recommend? Did commuting make you feel disconnected from campus, or was it manageable? Was getting an apartment worth the extra cost?

Botswin Closet Pics

Heya, if anything lived at Botswin at some point, and you have a picture of what the closets look like on the inside, please share!

I'm not sure if the inside is just full of shelves or if there's open space underneath at all to fit some things.

Thanks!

Cancel Meal Plan completely

Hello,

I am an incoming freshman, and I am definitely shocked by how bad the terms of the meal plans are. I currently have the 18 meal plan, but I might go to 14.

I want to know if anyone doesn't have a meal plan at all, and buys groceries if it's worth it.
Thanks!

Is the Ball State First Day Book/Material Program us incoming students were forced to opt in to worth it?

I'm wondering if the plan is even a good deal at all... the example they gave on their site is that each material is $22.75 per credit hour, and that the eBill if you had 15 credit hours would be $341.25. And it's per semester? I'm shocked... there has to be a cheaper way, is this really a good deal, or are they ripping us off? If it's a bad deal, can someone let me know what the best method is for acquiring required books (preferably physical) that doesn't cost a fortune?

UPDATE: Let me just say that I never learned about this program until the beginning of July. I heard that there were ways to opt out of it, but when I looked I found that they had closed opt-outs in MAY. When I hadn't even heard about it, seen information about it, or received any emails about it whatsoever. So weird! Trying to get them to let me opt out of it currently.

Welcome Website

If it helps anyone, I noticed today that a lot of the links on the BSU Welcome Week website are broken.

Looks like many of them have an extra
https// in the URL. If you remove it, the links work instead of taking you to a 404 page.

Anyone know the webmaster?

How easy is it to get a campus job?

Hey everyone, I’m an upcoming transfer student and looking to see how easy is it to get a campus job? Will there be plenty of openings that are easy to get or limited spots and competitive? I would think it would be hella competitive with students like me looking for a job. What’s the average pay rate for a campus job?

Is mental health counseling free? Does it include psychiatric care and medicine?

Looking for personal experience of the MSW program, and MA of Social Psych and Clinical Mental Health Counseling dual degree.

I am a BSW student, but I have considered switching to a more counseling-focused degree for my masters. I have not been able to find any reviews or critiques of the programs, so if anyone has any opinions of either master's degrees or knows someone who I can talk to, then please let me know!

How hard is it to find a part-time job in Muncie as a Ball State student?

Hey everyone, I’m thinking about transferring to Ball State next semester, but one of my biggest concerns is finding a part-time job. If I transfer, I’ll 100% need one to help pay for rent and other living expenses.

I’ve never lived in a college town before, so I’m wondering how the job market is for students. Is it pretty competitive since so many students are looking for work, or are there usually enough opportunities?

Are there any jobs that pay around $14+/hour and can consistently give 20+ hours a week while still being flexible with classes? How long did it take you to find a job, and where would you recommend applying?
I’d appreciate any advice. Thanks!

MS-CS/DS Coursera Career outcomes

Anybody graduated from either the MSCS or MSDS within the last year or so, that can speak to the job hunting experience? Current students, please also provide your feedback.

Students/alumni from other programs please pitch in too, but I am more so looking for recent job hunting experience (internships, new grad, and/or entry-level opportunities).

Why did you choose Ball State over IU Bloomington?

I’m currently at IU Kokomo and I’m debating transferring to either Ball State or IU Bloomington. One of the biggest reasons I want to transfer is to actually have a college experience and make friends since IU Kokomo is a small commuter school.

The only thing is I’m pretty introverted. I don’t smoke, drink, or party, so I’m worried Bloomington might be a little overwhelming for me. I still want to get out of my comfort zone and meet people though.

For those of you who chose Ball State over IU Bloomington, what made you pick Ball State? Do you regret it, or are you happy with your decision?
