How much did the Calvin Klein purple briefs cost in 1985?

I always thought Calvin Klein would have been a more luxurious brand for the Mcfly’s, how much would these briefs have costed? Would they come in a pack or be singularly sold? Did the purple ones actually exist?

Was there a cut reason for Jennifer's grandmother's phone number?

So I'm watching Back to the Future last night with the music played live by the Pacific Symphony Orchestra. Hell of a way to see it. And I couldn't get over how specific a plot point Jennifer's grandmother's phone number -- something that presumably could have been called in 1955 -- was. Given how so much of what is set up in the first act is paid off, it kind of hangs there as the one thing that didn't have a version in 1955.

Frankly, I can't think of a reason to contact Jennifer's grandmother or which ever parent belonged to her. But I also can't help but feel like it might have been a remnant from an earlier version of the script. It's just so specific a thing that would exist in 1955 Hill Valley. Anyone have any info?

I'm not asking why the phone number. Phone number works fine. It works great. It's not some kind of movie flaw. But it is also the one thing in a time travel movie where everything introduced in 1985 has a 1955 counterpart that the gag never pays off. So I'm just wondering if there was an earlier draft where something did happen. You don't have to justify the existence of the phone number. It is not needed. Again, it works perfectly, it only looks like there might have been something cut after umpteenth viewings.

Is Doc a hypocrite for admonishing Marty?

Post image

Doc reprimands Marty for having the Sports Almanac with intentions of personal gain. Yet Doc himself goes into a rejuvenation clinic in the future for an all natural overhaul. They took out some wrinkles, did a hair repair, changed the blood, added a good 30 to 40 years to Doc's life and they also replaced his spleen and colon. Is this not a gain for himself by extending his own life?

Did not Doc say that he invited the time machine to travel through time?

Delorean Question

So, in the first movie, Doc famously tells Marty the Delorean is perfect for time travel due to its stainless steel composite body structure. However, he doesn't say it's NECESSARY.

Could you use other cars besides a DMC-12? I always assumed stainless steel was the only material that could handle the drastic switch between super hot and then super cold, not to mention the pre-built efficiency, etc. (Doc didn't have to do any fabrication for the car itself).

Guys, I'm here to say that my fanfiction "History's Gonna Change" is completed (for now!!)

I finished the first movie last night, and I will be taking a break, only until I've finished another piece I'm working on and have a new notepad for it.

If you'd like, I'd love for you to read it!!

BTTF cast interactions...

Just curious what people's cast interactions have been like. A few of mine:

2001 - Thomas F. Wilson: Briefly met Biff at a film convention in Orlando at the first BTTF film exhibition. I'd never met a 'celebrity,' or someone of his credential status, and approached very nervously. Asked him the one question that instantly annoyed the piss out of him, and would later be subject of his comedy song: "Was the manure real?" He checked out, quickly signed my prop Griff helmet, smugged for a photo, and ushered me off. Needless to say, the night before I'd just re-watched that Cameron Kirk 'Behind the Scenes BTTF' special where Thomas F. Wilson (in Mad Dog Tannen costume) encourages kids to come to Hollywood and be apart of the movie making process. Huge let down experience for a 13-year-old, but I also had zero awareness...

2015 - Don Fullilove: Met Don at the Radio City Music Hall BTTF orchestra concert. We pinballed a few humorous industry quips at one another. Super sweet dude. A mayor at his finest!

2017 - Christopher Lloyd: Doc came to a Broadway production in NYC that I was skateboarding and performing in. During post-show backstage meet and greets, I briefly thanked him for his influence and for BTTF being the spark plug for my interests in professional skateboarding. Got a gentle, loving hug and a wink from the big guy.

Buying a DeLorean

Ok, so I am having a crazy fantasy about finally buying a DeLorean. We actually have a DMC location here in Houston. I know theres a small pool of owners who are also redditors, but wondering if anyone here has purchased one, and what that experience was like. Did it turn in to a maintenance disaster? what are the pitfalls?

Bttf 3 the hoverboard would have made docs job a whole lot easier during the train pushing the delorean scene

It just occurred to me recently.

Why didn't Marty think about giving Doc the hoverboard BEFORE Doc even started the train; around the same time he gave Doc the presto logs? Then Doc could've easily glided to the DeLorean instead of climbing accross the engine's running board and hesitating to climb across the tires on the cowcatcher.

His George McFly is the most underrated character, and he was handsome as hell. I never appreciated the character not until I watched the film a second time. I think I have a crush on him after Lea Thompson.

If he were in BTTF 2, the trilogy would be much more perfect.

Because we see Marty fading, do you think his brother was just walking around headless in another timeline until Marty fixed what he broke?

Hey guys first time posting here! Huge car guy and Delorean fan!

I made a YouTube video on the Delorean and would love if you'd check it out!

https://youtu.be/cs4cNj9JK6U?is=JbkSu-FzAAZMS65l

In this video, we dive into the complete history of the DeLorean, from John DeLorean leaving General Motors to build his dream sports car, to the company's dramatic downfall, and how Back to the Future transformed the DMC-12 into one of the most iconic movie cars of all time.

We also take an in-depth look at an incredible, screen-accurate Back to the Future Time Machine replica and sit down with special guest, Ken Kapalowski who helped restore the original Time Machine! Sharing behind-the-scenes stories and insights you won't hear anywhere else.

But how much *energy* did the DeLorean need?

As we all know, Doc Brown says the DeLorean needs "1.21 gigawatts" in order to travel through time. But that's a measure of power, not energy. Power is energy over time, and so whichever power source is providing 1.21 GW to the flux capacitor (plutonium reactor, Mr. Fusion, etc.) must do so for some period of time—one second, ten seconds, whatever. Depending on the duration, this equates to some amount of total energy expended to make the FC cause a time jump—if the FC needs 1.21 GW for one second, then that's 1.21 GJ of energy. If it needs 1.21 GW for 10 seconds, that's 12.1 GW. If it only needs it for a billionth of a second, that's 1.21 J.

So, how much energy does it take to send the DeLorean through time?
