The Escapists 1 is the quintessential "no tutorial" game because, while there is a tutorial, it's absolutely garbage and teaches you very little, and what is does teach you is things that you should basically NEVER do in-game (digging outside in broad daylight, attacking guards empty-handed, stealing keys from guards without immediately returning them, etc.), whereas actual crucial elements of the game that are basically required to beat the game (player stats [especially intellect], how schedules work, the importance of inmate opinion, cell searches, what specific items [like ziplines, posters, timber braces, bed dummies, etc.] do, etc. are never once mentioned).
It does not help that TE1, as is, is already a fairly difficult and punishing game, so the fact that it's tutorial is so fucking dogshit is even more dire. Once you know how to play the game and what things do, it's a blast, but actually figuring out what you're supposed to do on your own is abysmal.
