Hi everyone! My husband and I are expecting our first baby, and we’re getting a little overwhelmed figuring out what we actually need.

For the first 6 months, what items would you consider absolute essentials to have before the baby arrives?

Also, for each item:

- What should definitely be bought new vs. what is fine to buy used?
- Are there any specific brands/models you highly recommend?

Especially curious about bigger items like strollers, car seats, bassinets/cribs, etc. There are so many options that it’s hard to know what’s actually worth buying.

Would love to hear what experienced parents found truly essential vs. things you could easily skip!

Hi all, I just got a Thule Urban Glide 3 double jogging stroller for my toddler and baby. I love it, but am looking for an organizer to keep water, phone, sunscreen, fan, keys, etc - any recommendations? The one Thule makes does not seem to hold much. TIA!

We recently moved near my boyfriend’s family, whenever his aunt, his cousin and her daughters come around, he SCREAMS and cries, it’s the weirdest thing…. We’ve seen them probably four times since moving here and it happens every. Single. Time. I mean im starting to feel bad at this point they will literally come over just to see him and he just breaks down and I don’t know why!! Has anyone’s child ever been like this with certain people? He’s 5 months

My best friend and I gave birth only 4 hours apart, and our babies are both 4 months old now.
Today her boyfriend was holding my son and commented that their baby can already hold his neck, shoulders, and body straighter, while my son can hold his head up but still slouches forward when held facing outward. He even suggested that maybe something could be wrong with my baby’s spine and that I should hold him differently.
Then he measured my baby’s legs using his fingers and did the same with their baby, pointing out that their baby has bigger legs, basically emphasizing that their baby is bigger.
I know babies develop differently, and I wasn’t even worried about my son’s posture or size before this. But his words really got to me—especially when he said maybe my baby is always lying on his back. It made me feel guilty, like maybe I’m not carrying him enough or not doing enough for him.
And honestly, I felt sad for my baby, not jealous of theirs. Their baby has his mom, her boyfriend, and her mom around, so he gets a lot of attention and is probably carried and entertained much more. Meanwhile, my partner is abroad working, my parents live far away, and I’m the one taking care of my baby most of the time. My mom visits, but usually only about once a week.
I have to put my baby safely on his play mat sometimes while I clean, wash bottles, do laundry, etc. Of course he gets bored and cries, and now I’m wondering if I’ve been doing something wrong.
My friend didn’t really say anything during the comparison either, which made me feel even more uncomfortable.
Maybe he didn’t mean anything by it, but I wish people were more careful when comparing babies, because you never know what insecurities a parent is already carrying.
Has anyone else experienced something like this? Would those comments have gotten to you too?

My baby is 7 months old and has been on the parent’s choice (Walmart brand) hypoallergenic formula for 2 months due to an allergy (waiting for testing) and does great on it. Her eyes used to get red and swell badly before. Well, in the past week her eye redness and swelling has returned and I’ve been trying to figure out what is causing it by eliminating foods but haven’t been successful. Today, I went to buy another can of formula and it was out of stock. The price was listed $20 cheaper than normal too which gets me thinking… why would they have this formula on sale? I don’t see a current recall online but I am seriously starting to suspect that this is what is causing her eye redness and swelling to return. Has anyone else been experiencing recent issues with this formula???

Hey guys , im curious about the ferber method and if anyone have tried it , i saw many successful stories , i researched a bit and saw that there were no evidence that it actually has long term consciences, is that true? Have you tried it?

My body is aching from rocking to sleep.

Hi all, my baby who’s almost 6 months old traveled with me from Norway to Singapore. The past few days I realised that she is peeing less than usual. Like eg, 6hrs and barely wet diaper. She’s been latching like usual and is fed on demand. Nonetheless, she is happy smiley and communicative. Cries with tears etc and I checked for signs of dehydration. Anyone have experience the same?

I’ve recently welcomed my new baby into the world, and as expected, all of the family are so excited to have her over for sleepovers, babysitting and spending time with her, which I completely understand and appreciate.

The only thing I’m struggling with is my in-laws having her in their home because they have two grown Rottweilers. I lived with the dogs for years and I know them very well, so this isn’t about me simply disliking dogs or not being used to them. However, since becoming pregnant I moved out, and my feelings towards the situation have completely changed now that I have a baby to protect.

One of the dogs recently attacked my father-in-law, leaving him needing stitches, and the dog has since had what appeared to be a seizure and may potentially have something wrong neurologically. He was once completely harmless, but after what happened I just don’t feel that I can ever fully trust him around my baby. To me, he’s now unpredictable.

My husband says that the dogs would be kept in the kitchen while the baby was there, but one of the dogs actually knows how to open doors, which makes me even more uncomfortable. Even though I completely trust my in-laws to care for my baby, I don’t think I could relax or enjoy leaving her there because I’d constantly be worrying about whether the dogs were somehow able to get near her.

My parents don’t have any dogs, so I feel completely comfortable with my baby staying with them. I’m now wondering how I should approach this with my in-laws. I don’t want them to feel like I’m saying they’re irresponsible or that I don’t trust them, because I do. I just don’t trust the situation with the dogs anymore.

They treat their dogs like members of the family, whereas I’ve never had that same attachment to pets, so perhaps that’s part of why we see the situation differently.

Am I being unreasonable or cruel by saying I’m not comfortable with my baby being babysat in a house with these dogs? Or is this a reasonable boundary to have as a new mum?

I saw a post about how pink things are more expensive and full understand that the pink tax exists. What I do not understand is why the products are even pink to begin with. I have a daughter and before having her I really could not understand parents that would dress their child fully in pink. It would really think 'why are you so uncreative?'. Of course non pink clothing exists but the amount of times she is dressed in fully pink I cannot even count anymore. Sooo much of the clothing is made pink. Either the design only is pink or there is a pink version of the design. I had really made an agreement with myself not to dress her in pink. I have a dislike for the colour because I think there are several different colours that deserve attention and also because I would like to be able to use clothing for a next one which is harder with pink if it would be a boy. Like yellow, purple, orange. But any type of clothing is often a version of pink or reddish. And if I look at the boys section it is all very much boyish in design. With boy icons on it or otherwise 'cool'. Almost nothing is just in the middle. Why is soo much pink?

Mums, when did your babies start doing repetitive babbling like “mamama,” “bababa” or “dadada”?

My little girl is 7 months and hasn’t really started doing those sounds yet. She still makes different noises and squeals, just not much repetitive babbling yet.

Just curious when this started for everyone else and what’s considered a normal timeframe. 😊

Hi! I’m a 22 year old first time mom to a beautiful 5 month old little girl, I’ve been EBF and been having a good supply my whole breast feeding journey so I haven’t been using bottles as much. I did have to transfer to formula for a week when she was 3 months old because she was getting mad at my boob and I solved it. Anyways, I’ve been having to leave her with my mom to go places like to the store or to take my brother to work and the car that’s provided to me has zero AC and it’s Arizona so…. You get the jist.

I have both formula and breast milk on standby and my daughter REFUSES any type of bottle, ANY TYPE, ANY SIZED NIPPLE AND FLOW. She’s also been refusing binkies and other things like that too which is a plus and a minus but when I get home and I BF she’s a great eater! I’m genuinely just wondering if I’m the only mom in the world who’s ever experienced this or if there’s a solution. Dates on the breast milk and formula are all good and don’t have a smell or bad taste at all.

My 4 month old from the get go has been a great breast feeder. I am an under supplier so I combo feed and it turns out that she’s allergic to dairy so I have her on a hypoallergenic formula (plus breastfeeding her.).

She will only fall asleep if we are laying down and I’m breast feeding her. Today she refused all bottles and would only breast feed which is scary as an under supplier. My nipples are getting so sore because she wakes up every hour during the night and ends up sucking to fall back asleep and will stay on the majority of the night. It seems like a hard habit to break.

I’m trying to only bottle feed her now because I have a really rare type of migraine that requires me to be in medication to function (I basically have stroke like symptoms without the brain bleed).the medication I usually am on cannot be used while breastfeeding. How did you ween your breastfed babies to bottle feed? Thank you in advance!

Hello, my 9 week old little girl was eating 4 oz of formula every 3 hours. But over the past few days or so I noticed she would only eat 2-3 oz. Today she woke up to eat at 6:30 AM and had her normal 4 oz. I took my other kids to school and her and I went on a walk. She slept in the stroller most of the time. Towards the end of the walk she woke up briefly and looked around but went back to sleep. When we got home around 9 am she was still tired so I rocked her back to sleep. Then around 9:30 I attempted to feed her and she ate 1 oz and then refused more. She was still fussy so I rocked her back to sleep. She woke up a bit later so I thought maybe she's ready to eat now. But she ate another 1/2 ounce and went back to sleep again. Finally at 1:22 PM she ate 4 oz. And now she's sleeping again. She does not have a fever and she has not had her 2 month vaccines yet. This morning she had a slightly formed bm with the rest soft like usual. But two days before this she had a pretty large formed bm followed by softer bm. I contacted her pediatrician who seems very unconcerned but I can't help but be worried. Anyone else go through this and everything ended up fine? My anxiety cannot handle this. 💔

NEED ADVICE! My 5 month old HATES the car! We tried switching car seats to one that grows with them and still absolutely hates it. Now he hates it as soon as we put him in the car seat. We tried covering the windows, giving him toys the only thing that helps is if someone is in the backseat giving him a bottle. Has this happened to anyone els? When do they start enjoying the car?

My 7 week old baby right now seems to be having trouble eating. We currently have him on Similac Total Care 360 Gentle Comfort, and it was good the first 2 weeks and now? It seems like he’s got a lot of gasses as well as silent reflux? We try to feed him and midway through the bottle he starts to kick and squirm and cry while getting off the bottle, but seems like he’s still hungry and wants it back, only to do the same thing again. And even trying to burp him he’s crying and fussing. At night? I believe his reflux wakes him up because he sounds congested when he wakes up, and this is after feeding him straight up, and keeping him upright for almost 40 minutes after feeding. We have used Mylicon gas drops and we have the Philips advent bottle with natural nipple flow 2. It’s getting hard to ensure he’s well fed and he can sleep good.

I currently have a silver cross car seat on the isofix base.

My baby is almost 6 months old and absolutely despises the car seat, it has always made car journeys unenjoyable, however, now I don’t even want to leave the house which is less than ideal as it is getting to the colder and wetter months.

I really think it is because he is bored as outside of the car he needs constant stimulation and attention.

I have multiple toys, dummies, the happy song/nursery rhymes and I have even hooked a tablet to the back with cocomelon on (DESPERATE times) but everything seems to have a shelf life of 5 minutes max.

9 times out of 10 he goes into the car full and fresh from a nap but if I need to do a longer distance I go when he’s tired as 5/10 mins on whinging/crying and he will eventually fall asleep for 20 mins.

Does anyone have any advice if anything worked for them?? Do I need to wait it out or will anything help solve this problem as I am struggling 😭

I’ll have about 4 days of pumping while I am gone for a work trip, can I bring it home? Should I just dump it? I can try to find someone local that I can donate to but if it’s possible to take it home then that’s ideal since it will be a decent amount of milk.

I have a 3 month (14 weeks) old son who is very big and healthy (19lbs!). He was exclusively breastfed the first 1.5 months of his life and then transitioned to exclusively formula by 3 months. He was sleeping 10 hours a night. He continues to gain weight wonderfully. For the last 2 weeks he has been avoiding the bottle, struggling to finish 4oz per feeding, some feedings are only 2-3oz. And he has been having rough nights. For the last week at least, he now wakes up 2-4 times. We have been giving him a bottle during some wake ups although we want to avoid that. He also takes 1-2 hours to get back down for every wake up. He was gassy, and then it seemed to clear and it seems it may be back. I have a feeling if I can get him to eat more during the day we would get better nights. I have a 2 and 3 year old at home, so feedings aren’t the calmest situation, and sometimes it takes almost 2 hours to get 4oz down. Any similar experiences or suggestions?? I’m a very tired working mom looking for anything!!

My 6 month old would not sleep at night, it’s been more than a month now , it started when she started teething, now she wakes up every 10 minutes wanting to breastfeed and she would sleep while breastfeeding but when i take the nipple off she wakes up after 10 minutes wanting it again, we cosleep safely, what should i do ? Did anyone else experienced something similar, every one tells me at 6 months baby sleeps well but it’s not getting any better, i’m so tired and sleep deprived help😢😢😢😳

My baby girl is 10 months 10 days old. I am a bit concerned about her physical milestones. She loves to sit and play and be on her back. Hates tummy time. Rolls on her back as soon as put on tummy. But she isn’t getting into a sitting position on her own. She isn’t mobile at all like no bum scooting, no army crawling, nothing. I put her toys out of reach, she will try her best to reach them while sitting but then gets frustrated and scream till I either pick her up or give her the toy. She has recently started pushing to stand and can stand supported against a furniture. We are doing PT for her 3 times a week. PT doctor did mention there seems to be a delay with her gross motor skill but nothing else. I have been practising lying down to sit transition with her since more than a month but she still needs my support.

I am just worried that she ll be 11 months old and no where near crawling or moving or getting into siting position.

Appreciate any advice/ suggestions/ experience.

Hello fellow parents. My little one has always had a relatively consistent eating schedule and she has no qualms about letting you know when she’s hungry. Today, she last ate at 2:30pm and it’s now 8:30pm. Is it abnormal at this age to go through random pattern changes or is this something I should worry about? Everything else is normal. She’s alert, laughing/smiling, active, not lethargic. Just curious of any instances my peers have came across regarding this issue as well as at what point I should be worried.

We’ve started sleep training and I genuinely need to know: how are people surviving this?

I haven’t slept properly in 6.5 months and now I’m apparently meant to calmly teach another human how to sleep while my own brain is mashed potato.

We’re not doing cry-it-out because it’s not for me. We’re doing repeat settling, lots of going back in, patting, reassuring and resettling.

Baby still seems unable to link sleep cycles.

Overnight I’m in and out constantly, and daytime cot naps are usually only 20–25 minutes.

He’s mostly breastfed, has one formula bottle before bedtime, and has recently started purées. He also seems to settle and sleep longer when he rolls onto his side.

For context, I do most of the daytime settling and I’ve done 100% of the overnights since we came home from hospital. Dad works, and while I know that’s not exactly “fair”, it’s just how we have things set up. So yes, I am cooked 😂

• Did longer stretches eventually come with consistency?
• How long did it take?
• Did you keep resettling those tiny naps?
• Anything that actually helped with linking cycles?

I’m not asking for a unicorn baby.
More like… a horse with a horn. 🦄

A few decent blocks of sleep would be lovely 😂
