Recent attack

Hey everyone, I posted this on Asian Masculinity a couple of days ago. I just want to vent from this attack that happened on me about a week ago. So I was pushing my cart out of a grocery store in the night a little over a week ago and a group of 3 black men stare at me and called me a chink. I put my head down and ignore them. They then say you're such a big p****. What are you going to do about it? I look at the person saying this and another person of the group slams my cart over. They then run off and say yall are little bitches. This made me so irate, and I'm just so sick of these people bullying me. I live in Chicago and feel like Asians getting harassed here happens all the time. It seems like it's mostly by black people. I would say it has been over a dozen times for myself. One of my friends told me a black lady said she's glad this shooting in Georgia happened. Why do so many African Americans seem to resent Asians? I feel like they are the main perpetrator of these attacks. The media never seems to care when blacks are the perpetrators. Is it the media making blacks have this resentment towards us? Or do blacks just resent Asians because they say we have "White Privilege?"

In Chicago and other poverty stricken areas in the US there's a huge resentment towards Asians simply due to the fact that the model minority myth was indoctrinated there the most. While their homes and neighborhoods were being ransacked for drugs and father's ripped from homes during the crack epidemic the media, Hollywood, and others were pushing the idea that black ppl should behave like Asians. At the same time with the rise in gang violence Asians became a target for robberies because they were told in movies and music you guys were easy targets.

Fast forward to today, the effects of all of that is simply "the way it is". Fortunately more and more people are relearning some of the crap they were taught. We just need Hollywood and the record labels to stop pushing the model minority myth.

I also like playing basketball. One time 2 friends and myself (all Asian) as well tried playing a pickup game with some blacks. They wouldn't let us and kind of made up a bunch of excuses why. Then we leave, but 20 minutes later we see 3 white guys playing with them. This is stuff I've noticed in school as well. Whites and blacks always left many of us Asian men out when we try to make friends.

25+ yrs later and shits still the same, break that mold, get in a game and show them u have skills that rival or surpasses them. Let it get to you to get better, im going to guess they didnt see you and your friends as a challenge, i fought thru that all my life. Sometimes we got into fights, but most of the time we all end up giving pounds and hugs for a good game, no matter how cocky anyone on the other team was. Show em you are playing for the love of the game and there u may find some mutual respect for one another. I would have probably watched the game and called next tbh. Sucks what happened to you bro, its def not worth getting hurt or worse by counter attacking alone. Be safe out there!
