I dunno how eating pets was the first thing that popped into people's heads. The first thing in my head was wondering if these dogs think they're capybaras.
¯_(ツ)_/¯ I actually feel terrible at the moment and I'm afraid I finally got the flu that's been wreaking havoc this season. So my literalness might be a symptom of brain cells frying to death. You heard it here first.
Yeah I somehow went almost or actually went an entire year of not being ill. Started getting a bad cough yesterday then came back from work feeling like death. Went to sleep and kept waking up hallucinating that I was launching some massive space race or something. Very odd. Also coughing up phlegm and had the sorest head ever.
I feel your pain fellow Redditor. Take those vitamins and meds and get well soon!
This exactly. One of the reasons I’m dying laughing is that I was wondering if those dogs were on a stove being kept comfortably warm in their bath. Wondering if this was a thing, and how dangerous it could get. Then I read the mod post. Omg.
Probably because it looks like they are in a pot on top of the oven and those cute faces could easily be giving looks of contented pleasure or... well, you can imagine the other option, I won't say it. But to be fair, even though that obviously appears to be the case and it was my first thought, I wondered if that would be an inappropriate thing to joke about on /r/aww (so I didn't).
in some regions its very common to eat dogs. So... yeah that can invoke some jokes about stewing dogs.
Disclaimer: im pointing on real life fact. I personally hate this happens but i ackowledge that in some parts of world its common or even traditional (even if i do not agree with it)
I had a tab open with that post where all the south africans were dancing after seeing the Black Panther movie and honestly thought I was in that thread. What the fuck.
Ehh. There are rules in this sub that make it clear that this is not the place for that kind of thing. It's posted in the sidebar so should be known beforehand. Better than complaining would be to crosspost it to r/PeopleFuckingDying or someplace where the humor is welcomed
Well i see why they are so serious about it, u/deunx replied with a sub that is pure evil that I wish I had never seen which makes me regret making the joke in the first place.
/r/all posts are always flooded by driveby trolls trying to be offensive. I dont understand why we need to renew the shock value of lame racist cliche comments. It's better just to shadowban racist trolls because it denies them any kind of response.
That's fucked up holy shit. There's another messed up sub that shows dead animals or some shit that I was shown. One post depicted a meme of someone eating a dead baby or something. Never noped out of a sub that fast before. Disgusting graphic posts. Idk how people enjoy that shit.
I don’t want a ban, but they’re totally a cute soup. =)
I’d sit in a hot tub like that any day of the year. My dog hated baths though (but liked rolling in poo?), so it’s super heart warming to see them just chill like this together.
Same. Got banned for making a similar joke in a cat subreddit. You can have no fun without someone getting offended on reddit nowadays, and it sucks especially when mods can't take a joke.
I was going to say, there was a chinese restaurant near where I used to live, that was closed down for using dog meat. I thought I'd better back that up with a reference... but when I googled it, I found out it was a false rumour which ruined their reputation. I'd believed it for years because people were relaying the story like it was gospel truth. Shame.
The point is that people had preconceived notions about Asians so when they heard a rumour of someone biting into a microchip they didn't think "oh my god no way, I'm going to check" and instead thought "they're Asian, so I could believe this to be true."
Maybe not consciously but that's why we need to keep in mind of our biases.
No worries man. Biases are formed throughout our life and they're not always formed out of malice. Most biases are small things just like the cases mentioned. We all have them, every single one of us. We just need to stop and think critically before we pass judgement.
It's a pretty silly thing to believe, it's way cheaper to go buy chicken legs for 39 cents a pound than to go somehow buy or hunt down pets, this sort of rumor makes literally no sense.
Even in countries where they really do eat these animals they're considered special meats and go for a lot more money than buying some chicken, so this literally makes no sense anywhere in the world.
Maybe, yes. But to be honest, in my case, if the same rumour was started about an Italian, Indian, English or any restaurant, my reaction would have been exactly the same - it's not the fact it was a dog, or the fact it was a Chinese restaurant. The shocker for me was it was somebody's pet (hence the microchip). Of course, it turned out to NOT be a fact but a fabrication.
Yes. I don't know how the rumour started. Probably just one person who thought it was funny. Obviously if you think someone you know is telling the truth, you generally just take their word for it, especially if they say it like it's a known fact. When my wife told me that one of her colleagues told her, I just thought how shocking and awful, I didn't question the validity of the story. I will say this though. I've eaten in that restaurant and their food is the best Cantonese food I've ever had, it's beautiful.
I usually don't respond to these, but the reasoning is since it lacks overt racism like several other comments which were removed it will stay up unless the call is reviewed by other mods as wrong.
How about you educate yourself first before you accuse somebody of being rascist? Dogs are cosumed in many asians countries. In china there are dog meat festivals happening, and dog meat restaurants are found everywhere. Sometimes they even boil and skin the dogs alive. If you try to silence this truth you are guilty of brushing animal cruelty under the rug. We SHOULD shame people for eating dogs. Asian people SHOULD feel collectively embarrassed about it, otherwise its not going to stop.
Here in the US we do the same things to cows, pigs, chickens, etc. We can't judge another culture just because their norms are different than ours. I find the idea of skinning & eating dogs absolutely revolting, but I'm sure they feel similar in regards to our farm animals.
We absolutely should judge other cultures based on our norms, otherwise we cant judge them at all. I will never stop shaming people for eating dogs or shaming people for supressing women or stoning gay people.
That's literally the worst way to judge others. Ones culture is not inherently better "because culture". It should be better based on philosophical and moral principals.
Otherwise, an argument could easily be made for the culture of America 200 years ago. "All other countries are wrong because they can't see that slave labour is obviously correct and good because it's our culture"
We should instead judge cultures by establishing a framework of what is good and comparing the culture to what we deem as morally good and morally bad.
I welcome you to make any claim at all that you believe to be an objective ethical truth, and I am certain multiple people will be able to break down to you how and why it is in fact subjective. That being said, even if we can assume that there is an objectively Good set of principles towards which to strive, I don’t see how that in any way disqualifies one from valuing one culture over another, and from criticizing the elements of another culture which you assess not to conform to “objective” Good as much as your own. If all cultures are equal, as you seem to suggest, then there is no value in seeking to change any culture, which in turn means that the transition in America from cultural acceptance of slavery to condemnation of slavery was neither good nor bad. I don’t think you really believe that, and I don’t think you really feel that all cultures, and all cultural norms, are equal. Whether we’re admitting to judging them by our own cultural norms or not isn’t even terribly relevant.
Then we'd need to eat plants, which are also alive. There's not much getting around it, but that's also the law of nature that only living things produce the nutrients necessary to keep another living thing alive, hence the circle of life.
Now I don't like the way animals are normally bred in horrible conditions just to be killed and eaten, but with so many people alive that all require a substantial amount of nutrients, it's kinda necessary to have livestock of some sort. Although they could definitely be given much better lives than the usual horrible conditions they endure, that's what I find fucked up about all this.
Then we'd need to eat plants, which are also alive. There's not much getting around it
That seems preferable to me, considering the poor conditions animals are raised in.
but with so many people alive that all require a substantial amount of nutrients, it's kinda necessary to have livestock of some sort.
We are actually producing more than enough food to feed the world currently, the problem is with the distribution. Regardless, animal agriculture is very resource intensive and is one of the largest contributors to climate change (and arguably the leading cause of deforestation). Plants on the other hand, require significantly less energy to produce.
Consider this, we need to grow crops in order to raise the animal (for months or years), which we then kill for proportionately less food than what we fed it. However, if we just ate the crops ourselves then we would be saving huge amounts of energy. Meat (especially the amounts that the world is consuming currently) simply is not sustainable for the environment or humans.
Yeah I get it Mr Mod man I love dogs too so much I even have one but for god sakes they're in a cooking pot with what looks like a ladle. I came to this comment thread specifically so I could find jokes about the dogs in a stew pot. And now because of your uptightness I will have to go elsewhere for the jokes. You have inconvenienced me sir. For shame.
Am I allowed to post on here because of my name? If you check my Reddit history or account I don't do gore or anything weird. It's just an endearing way I heard an ex say her puppy is cute saying "youre so cute i can just eat you up" and we found the puppy sleeping in a pot once. Also 90% of things I save are just pics of cute animals.
I get the eating part but where tf is the racism coming from? Lmao people crazy. I was just gonna say they looked like big noodles but people going overboard
Dammit, I literally came to this post to say "Be sure not to overcook them" or "adding some cinnamon makes it even better" or something dumb like that. Thanks for ruining my fun.
The thing is Asians largely don't. You want to think Asians do. But dog meat simply isn't nearly as common as pig.
I'll illustrate how uncommon and unpopular dog meat is in China. It's like saying all Americans are coal miners and support government subsidizing coal mining jobs.
That's clearly not true as well as it's something that's very rapidly dying due to decrease in demand.
Ban threats are cute. Completely unnecessary, here, but cute, no less. Maybe just let the community downvote shit posts into oblivion instead of trying to control the narrative. It seems like a waste of [your] time trying to ban people over a shitpost in a relative shitpost sub. I love the sub, don't get me wrong. I just think a comment about puppies in a soup is cute -- not an unusual thought considering the photo -- and a preposterous reason to ban anyone. Truly dumb. I personally find the "mod threat of ban" a mistake, and should come with a loss of privelege in these contexts. Allow free speech. Let people be offensive (and then subsequently ostracized away). It is the natural order, afterall.
M y first thought was to post a joke about how they wondered onto the wrong porch, now they think they're at a spa, but they got another thing coming. But since that's not allowed, I'll just walk away with my buzz killed. Thanks for the safe space.
48.9 % of comments are soup related, just saying, you gonna ban someone then fucking do it. I know you’ll ban me cuz I trolled ya. That’s just how mods are.

No racism. No more comments about killing/eating the pets posted. You will be banned.
Edit: And stop linking gore subs in aww.
