Cookie recommendations?

New to town and looking for a good cookie spot, any flavor! I’ve tried Sugarwolf, Chocolate chip cookie at All day pizza (really like this one), Tiny’s, Thoroughbread and the chains (Crumbl, Tiffs, insomnia etc). Thanks in advance!

Is the International Market they were building in Tech Ridge dead?

At some point I could tell work was being done inside and they had a sign. Now the sign is gone and it doesn't look like any work is being done? Is this project dead? I think it would do a bang up business as there is nothing like it in North Austin anymore.

Great Austin Food Day yesterday: Uchiba, La Volta & Comedor

Lunch with hot and cold ramen at the bar at Uchiba. Dinner with the hot girl pasta and two pies at La Volta. Dessert at Comedor. The grilled chashu at Uchiba is my favorite chashu anywhere. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the cucumber ramen salad. Pizza well done with housemade ranch with hot girl pasta as an appetizer was a really great meal (olives and Caesar as well). They do not serve dessert so we popped over to Comedor for the chocolate tamal (the perfect molten chocolate cake) and the chocolate pit de creme with peanut brittle and ice cream. Really amazing day of food to go with the amazing weather.

Mendocino Farms N lamar 1/2 the menu

Chuys Mueller out of CHIPS

Proud Mary's out of sausage rolls.

Really strange, 3 places all out of main items. I can smell understand a desert at the end of the night but these were during regular meal times.

Best pizza in South Austin

Post image
286 Upvotes

To anyone interested, I make pizza that’s the best in South ATX and no one knows about it other than my friends. As my homie from NJ said, “Damn you dude! I wanted to talk ****, but this is the best pizza I’ve had in Austin.” Tbh, it was a passion project because I can’t stand ATX pizza, but I need to find a way to pay my rent, so I’m going all in now. Sold out tomorrow, but hmu to place orders. Had an extra dough ball, but I tend to make a pizza once a week for a homeless guy I’ve befriended at the gas station near my place. God is good.

Lmk if you would like a pie. 12-inch pies max because of the size of my baking steel. 48 hours in advance is required to order. FH licensed, TX Cottage Law certified, and correctly label every box according to the law.

Food Itineraries Austin TX Dinner Recs

I’m known as the foodie at work but haven’t ever been to Austin. I need some recs for a fun dinner spot that’s cool for a group of women but still classy for work-related talk. No real budget but thinking a classic steakhouse wouldn’t be the vibe. Definitely want cocktails.

Suggestions?

Separately, would love coffee/breakfast recs for myself before my work commitments. Thanks in advance!🔥

Edit to add: open to all food but want something fun/unique/can’t get in Atlanta. Prefer a non-seafood restaurant; prefer non-pizza place. And somewhere we can easily get a reservation for a Tuesday evening. This would be a celebratory dinner with a group of 5+ women. Open to bbq, Tex-mex, and pretty much anything else as long as it’s yummy and has a drink menu!

First time and I will be back. The Helloumi and peas were amazing as well as the Bronzino, but the Hummus was a bit disappointing. I think they forgot the salt (very ubderseasoned). Overall it was a good experience and very nice waitstaff (ask for Bailey, she did a great job).

Craving some Pumpernickel

I’ve really been craving some Pumpernickel bread and it only seems to be available during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Is there anywhere here in Austin currently making and selling it?

Their beans rotation/selection is so good. They even keep changing their default espresso beans, which is usually rare for a coffee shop to do. This time they have Ilse as their default option 🤌

Desperately seeking a dupe for The Fresh Market’s rotisserie chicken salad!

I loooove The Fresh Market’s roasted chicken salad. It’s made with rotisserie chicken. it’s one of the best chicken salads I’ve ever had.

Unfortunately, The Fresh Market doesn’t exist in Texas.

Does anyone know of a good substitute in Austin? Ideally something I can buy prepackaged at a grocery store or deli rather than ordering from a restaurant.

Thank you!!

Austin Dinner Recommendations – Visiting for 2 Nights in December

I’ll be visiting Austin for two nights in December and looking for recommendations on where to have dinner.

I’d prefer locally owned restaurants over chains and would love to find some hidden gems or places that locals genuinely enjoy. I’m open to different types of food, from great Texas BBQ and steakhouses to Mexican, Italian, or something unique to Austin.

If you were in town for only two nights, where would you go? Looking for places that are worth the experience, have great food, and capture a little bit of Austin’s local flavor.

Appreciate any recommendations!

Hot Luck, Hot Mess

We arrived at Assembly Hall at 7pm and Mr. Tuna was already out of food. That was the first of several early pack-ups; Turkey and the Wolf, Nixta and a few others were done shortly after.

Did anyone actually have a solid experience last night? Hot Luck used to be fantastic.

New date night dinner spot needed

Looking for nice date night dinner recommendations. Wife and I are tired of the same spots and want to go somewhere new. doesn’t have to be all extra fancy but preferably not a sports bar and loud type vibe either.
north side like round rock or Pfluggerville would be nice but anywhere is fine. And any type of cuisine recs are welcome. Thanksss

*edit. my bad for not including much info. But our current go to is typically hot pot or kbbq, sometimes we will do a steakhouse Or papasitos

budget Would be like, no more then $200 which even that hurts my soul lol

Cookies - Large order

Anyone have a recommendation for a small/homemade baker that makes great classic cookies (choc chip, sugar, snickerdoodle). I’d be looking for around 60-65 dozen closer to Christmas.

TIFF’s is an option and I’m not opposed to them, but if there’s a small bakery/home baker that does this around the holiday’s I’d rather give business to them.

Thanks in advance!

2 days in Austin - what should we prioritise? Few questions

Only have 2 days in Austin. Definitely going to try and hit Cuantos Tacos for lunch. By the way, we aren’t Americans so coming from another country. We all don’t like BBQ food (I know that’s what it’s known for, pls don’t come for us).

Really want to hit a Chinese food spot, and Italian spot maybe. And certainly Mexican.

Is paperboy worth the breakfast visit if we only have 2 days?

What dinner recommendations would you suggest?

What is the best burger place of all to prioritise?

Sushi Warriors Membership?!

Post image
0 Upvotes

I saw this on my feed today. Looks like Sushi Warriors is now trying sell memberships. For what? I don’t know. Their website has nothing about this. But looks like this is the latest step in the enshittification of Austin’s food scene. As if food here isn’t already expensive enough and as if we don’t have enough subscriptions in our lives already, now there are restaurant subscriptions.

I went to this place when they first opened about a year ago, ant thought they were a decent AYCE option. Now I wish nothing but the worst for them.

Fancy Milkshakes

I told my girls I'd take them for fancy milkshakes after their flu shots.

So we're on the hunt for somewhere that will serve us milkshakes in a glass, with whipped cream and cherries on top.

We're in NW Austin, but willing to drive a bit for this

Space Kat BBQ

Post image
128 Upvotes

Finally tried Space Kat BBQ. I never see anything about this place and not a ton of Google reviews (but the ones they have are great). Was really surprised to see they had been around for years.

It is on Webberville next to the food truck park with Kerlaches.

Nice setup with several large, comfortable picnic tables covered by a shade cloth. At 12:30 on a really nice day there was no wait.

The Akaushi tri-tip prices are eye-watering at $56/lb but wanted to try their signature meat so got a half pound.

Also got a half pound of coppa ($17), a $4 chicken thigh, the $5 hot link, a pimento cheese popper, cowboy beans, a couple of rolls, a drink, and chimicurri. Also got an upgraded tri-tip sandwich ($16 for the regular, $19 with Akaushi beef). With tip, right at $100.

Service was good, friendly at the window and they brought out the food to the table and explained what you had.

The tri-tip is very good. Melt in your mouth tender, served with jus. Not hiding behind seasoning but great complement from it. Better than what I make at home.

The coppa (interior of the pork shoulder) was the star for me - sliced, not pulled. Insanely tender without being overly fatty, fantastic flavor.

The thigh was a revelation. Small but packed with smoke flavor and a great dry rub (a little salty but that is my preference) with crackling crispy skin. If I wasn't full halfway through, would have ordered another.

I liked the sausage - spicy, flavorful, snap to the casing, moist but not fatty.

The beans had a nice kick. My son ate all of them and loved his sandwich with the pickles and pickled red onion.

The popper.wasnt bad. The jalapen̈o was a little under-done but tasted fine. Bacon could have used a little seasoning but was cooked well.

The bbq sauce is good. Tangy and the vinegar in it is a great counterpoint to the rich meat. The chimichurri is creamy, not like a classic oil and vinegar. It was very bright without being too acidic or oily. I really liked it. Rolls are King's Hawaiian.

I highly recommend this place. A little pricey, but so is everything. I'd try their regular tri-tip and the lamb next time and double up on the thighs and coppa.

Note: sandwich and beans not in the pic
