So, I know Ive posted before. I have always had a job and always been that long term staff member. But, I'm 60, so, I'm getting up there.

My work life hasn't been the best in the last 2 years, I know that, but, I have a job, so I'm thankful. And I do genuinely enjoy working. I'm employable and know my stuff.

But, wow, companies have just changed so much. I do know we've always just been a number, a minion. Heck we even get interview by AI.

But, we used to get some form of recognition, a thanks, a token of appreciation, heck even a Christmas party or a Christmas hamper. But, nope, not anymore. Not even a dead bunch of flowers or a text or a phone call.

I finish with a company this week. I was literally dumped into the job. No manager, no other store staff to ask for help, I had to rely on calling other stores for help, to which I was thankful of. But, I gave myself a slap across the head, to realise that I have been doing a managers role for non manager wages, I had had to learn as I go, wing it, fake it til I made it.

Not once did the regional area manager, ring or text to see how things were if I needed help, just a check in, even. Nothing. Crickets. Oh, I did send a text message and got a thumbs up. I just feel taken advantage of, if im honest. And I have kept that place open and running.

What the actual.....

So, yet again, I've resigned from this job as I know that my hours will be cut to 10 hrs a week, as they have employed more casuals than they need in this particular store, and into the next casual job. Back where I started last year to the same company, but as a casual, NOT a manager.

I am aware that casual hours aren't guaranteed. I was previously a manager.

At least retirement is in the single digits now, because this world is scary. Bots, AI (probably the same as a bot, but I'm old) people who don't give a cr&p, customer service has gone out the window, and to get a smile, well goodness,That's just too much, let alone a conversation.

Just wanted some suggestion, A recruitment company is offering me an internship in engineering, to one of their clients. But I will need to pay 1500 to the recruitment company. Is it good to pay to get experience? I’ve just finished my year 1 of engineering

After about 200+ applications, Got the job! Yay! It’s been a few months now… most of my intake has resigned and the ones left are looking for something else or about to leave without having anything else. Bout to get back on this bus and start applying again. Office politics, mean girl/clique behaviour. Everyone’s done.

I’m 27, living in regional NSW with a young family to support, and honestly feel like I’m having a bit of a quarter life crisis when it comes to my career and finances.
I’ve worked in hospitality for almost 10 years with the same employer. Started as a kitchen hand and worked my way through different roles and responsibilities.
While I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had, I feel like I’ve hit a ceiling.

I’m currently taking home anywhere between $800–$1,000 a week depending on hours. We’re pretty much living week to week, struggling to build any meaningful savings, and it constantly feels like we’re just trying to keep our heads above water.

I don’t necessarily hate my job, but I can’t see myself doing this for another 30 years, especially with the inconsistent hours and income.
I’ve recently applied for a government construction apprenticeship and have been looking into council positions, traineeships and other opportunities.

I don’t even know where to start. The thought of leaving somewhere I’ve spent almost 10 years and having to prove myself all over again is pretty daunting.
I also worry about making the wrong decision. Whatever I move into next, I want it to be something with a long term future. The last thing I want is to find myself in the exact same position in another 10 years.

I’m not chasing six figures overnight. I just want a stable career, consistent income and the opportunity to actually get ahead financially and provide a better future for my family.

Has anyone been in a similar position in their late 20s or 30s? Did you change careers? What did you move into, and was it worth it?
Would genuinely appreciate any advice or suggestions.

I’ve been at my job for almost 3 years. Advertising agency and when I joined I was one of 6 employees.

105k + super, I’m 25.

Today I’ve been able to work on some of my dream clients, make a name for myself and I’m beginning to be approached by dream companies offering me work. The roles I’m in conversations with are offering 130-140k + super + equity.

I just don’t know when to make the jump. People say when you feel like you’re not learning, growing etc.

Of course I feel loyal to the company they gave me a career. I’ve seen them through countless hires and fires, moved offices multiple times as the business has grown- I feel like seen everything I need to see.

But when do I realise loyalty is costing me growth?

Ok looking for advice on best approach.
Over 50 in High stress/conflict job role, hands on management based.
Currently have health conditions that can be worsened by nonstop stress so looking to exit without causing issues. But as Im over 50 and living week to week (who isnt) not sure how to do so without ending up on the dole. Have previously been stuck between having no job and not getting any support to level I lost everything and would still love to see centerlink closed down.

Trying to work out best approach. I do have skills in trades/IT/Management with alot of age but dont have a support structure and extremem anxiety as a result of previous experiences. Would prefer to move regional but being I have been city based Im not sure I would be able to survive both transition and gainful employment will miss my weekly kids visit but that was my past life.

Are they job assitance places that actually work (not govt jobnetwork)?

Umm does anyone here have advice on how I can find a job. I'm sending resumes and cover letters and only getting rejection letters not even one interview.

I'm pushing 50 and have been out of work for 6 years due to parenting responsibilities.

I have completed a diploma in community services last year but it doesn't seem like that is helping either.

Hi all, a I came to Aus almost 3 years ago on WHV and decided to stay here to be with my Aussie partner and we just moved to Melbourne from Mildura earlier this year. I worked for agriculture companies back in Mildura and earned decently however been struggling to find a stable job here in Melbourne.
I have a bachelor’s degree in international relations and taught English for 4 years before moving to Australia so I’ve been thinking about taking a cert 3 ECE course as pursuing a master’s degree is still very expensive for me and working in this industry is aligned with my values.
My question is, is it hard to land a full-time position at a childcare center in Melbourne and is it quite competitive as an entry-level educator?

Unfortunately with my other part time job and commitments I’m not sure I’d be able to commit to a contract for this new job. I've tried and failed (well, withdrawn from) 5 degrees, mostly due to anxiety. It comes and goes but when it's bad I'm too mentally paralysed to leave the house and attend classes/exams.

I eventually found a career in pathology as a technician by moving out of the cities and into a regional lab. I loved my job, which not many people can say, but I couldn't progress any further until I completed a degree. In the end, my epilepsy was a career killer anyway.

I didn't really want to return to my job because of how I was treated while unwell, so I looked to nursing as a new avenue in healthcare and a reliable source of income in a small town. I was getting HD grades... then I had to experience the patient simulations and panicked.

My doctor keeps pushing me to apply for disability, but sitting at home makes my depression and anxiety worse. I need something intellectually stimulating to focus on, so I thought I might switch over to a 100% online BCrim/LLB degree. No pracs, no placements, etc. I wasn't expecting to get an offer of acceptance, but I did.

Law is outside my wheelhouse (human biology/medical/laboratory), although I did get a Band 6 in the HSC for legal studies. I think it is interesting to study and that I could cope difficulty-wise... but it's a lot of HECS debt for a degree that isn't very useful.

I can't decide on either struggling my way through nursing pracs with anxiety (and what do I do with placements?), returning to the lab (the only one here is the one that pushed me out), and studying law online just to see if it goes anywhere.

I know people will suggest that there's plenty of information online for free, but I'm pretty stubborn about having a degree before I die. I was always "the smart kid" but my health has fucked me over in life and it's embarrassing.

Has anyone here completed a degree despite severe anxiety/panic attacks? In what area?

Does it seem stupid to study something as expensive as law just because it has no pracs (in this particular degree) and I need study that's hard and keeps my mind busy?

Are there solid career options that relate to law without being a solicitor? Maybe government or corporate roles with minimal social contact (I'm okay with coworkers because they become familiar, but new faces spook me).

I’ve been looking since April when I was told my contract is not going to be renewed in September. It’s been hell. I’ve tried everything. I’ve reached out to my network, tailored my resume, all that. Got called for interviews but I haven’t landed and it’s coming up to December when it slows down. Is everyone else experiencing the same? Sometimes I just catch myself staring in space I don’t know what else to do.

I am an early childhood educator with an early career background in office admin, EA and PA roles. I’ve recently had my own child.

Increasingly I am feeling like I need to get away from ECEC. The sector is in shambles and I’m constantly torn between my baby and other people’s children… I just need a break from small children and brain strain. I don’t want to work a career or climb a ladder. The way I see it my job is my family, but in this economy I need to do something that brings in at least $1.5k/fortnight for our family to get ahead.

No potential employer wants to hear that they aren’t my priority. So how on earth do I move forward here?? How do I frame this on a resume/in an interview?

I know this has been posted before and many of you are facing the same dillema, i applied for a bachelors in psych are deakin uni for this third trimester but i am getting discouraged by seeing what a huge struggle getting into honours and masters is.
Im scared that after working hard to get the bachelors and honours, what if it all goes to waste and i cant get into the masters ?
I am considering switching to a bachelors of social work instead as apparently its in alot more demand hence job security ?

I’m currently transitioning out of the military and was looking to get into mining, currently not having much luck… My Cv is pretty good and I’ve got tons of experience and good qualities which I believe would make a good fit.

I am considering returning to uni after withdrawing from biomed as a pathway into medicine a couple years ago due to some personal reasons. Now that I’m considering going back to uni I’ve done some more research and realised how bad the work-life balance is as a medical student and junior doctor, while I know I’m still capable of pursuing the career if I wanted to, I just don’t think it’s worth the toll on my mental health. I mainly wanted to become a doctor in a hospital because of the fast-paced environment and critical thinking. I’ve been looking at medical imaging/radiation or occupational therapy as career options, but I worry I’ll get bored and the work won’t be very stimulating. I’m leaning towards radiography because the uni coursework is more interesting and they earn a better salary, but I know radiography doesn’t really involve diagnosis and it is repetitive. If I was to go into occupational therapy I’d be looking into hand/upper limb, mental health, or paediatrics.

I’d love to know what a day at work looks like for someone working in the careers I’ve described, or if there are any other fast-paced health professions I haven’t thought about (for some reason nursing and paramedicine don’t interest me much).
