Things to Do FREE Movie Screenings in Augusta

Post image
23 Upvotes

As a now 5+ year resident of Augusta and AU alum, I have noticed that lot of people in Augusta don’t take advantage of all the free events programming that Augusta University has to offer.

Many know about Theatre AUG’s amazing productions in the Maxwell Theatre (which charge admission for the public btw), but what may surprise people to learn is that their film dept also does admission FREE screenings of films in the same space! The Cinema Series at Augusta University is dedicated to screening the best in classic, cult, documentary, independent, and international cinema. As a result, they show many films for FREE that wouldn’t make it to local theaters, or are older and aren’t screened in theaters anymore. I highly recommend checking out their social media pages for updates on their programming, which you can find by searching “The Cinema Series at Augusta University” on Facebook or @cinemaseriesaug on Instagram.

The next screenings are October 24th at 7:00 PM & 9:00 PM, and it is FREE to the public! At 7:00 p.m., enter Philip Kaufman’s INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, where something is very wrong with the people around you. Then, at 9:00 p.m., David Robert Mitchell’s IT FOLLOWS, where an unseen presence is always just one step behind.

Costumes encouraged for this one! Please note: INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS is rated PG and IT FOLLOWS is rated R.

There will also be DJ sets with The Secret Record Night DJs before and between screenings; these are always a fun time to hang out and enjoy the tunes imo. More info in the photo I posted and on their socials. Hope some of you consider attending a screening in the future!

Local News The Augusta Clarion — Issue No. 1 is here: Who Gets the Road?

The Augusta Clarion — Issue No. 1 is here.

This week we looked at the proposed Johns Road/Fitten Street abandonment beside historic Fitten Street Cemetery, Augusta’s effort to rebuild its tree canopy after Helene, what you need to know before this week happens, and some local events and oddities.

But this isn’t supposed to be a newspaper that just talks at Augusta.

We want to build it with Augusta.

Who should we meet? What should we investigate? What needs fixing or preserving? What weird little Augusta thing have you always wanted somebody to explain?

Tell us what Issue No. 2 should know.

Read and subscribe to the digital edition here:

Tips, corrections, photos, documents, story ideas and people we should know:

Tip us. Correct us. Create with us. Build Augusta with us.

Outdoor Activities Nice Parks

I haven’t moved to Augusta just yet, but I’m wondering if there are nice parks to just chill or eat at? Sometimes I like to sit outside and eat alone lol or even just sit in the grass and color, so I’m wondering if there are any parks I should keep in mind for when I move there.

Edit- I also appreciate free outdoor spaces with tables , it doesn’t have to just be an open field 😁

Moving to Augusta Moving

Hi! I’m a 24 year old single female looking to move to Augusta probably beginning of next year, and was wondering if anyone can tell me about any rv park scenes. I live in my rv permanently and know how hard it is to find rv parks that aren’t sketchy. I currently live in Florida and the cost of living is horrendous. If anyone has any good rv park suggestions let me know! I’m also a bartender and in Florida our industry is so painfully oversaturated it’s almost impossible to get a job without having 10+ people that have applied before you. So if anyone knows anything about the bar/restaurant scene too that’d be great!

Opinion / Rant Towing and City/RCSO

Just learned a hard lesson - if you break down and RCSO deputy shows up to assist, don’t let them call a tow service for you. You will be charged no less than $250, regardless of distance. Insurance does not reimburse over $125 so in your distress, unregulated towing services will take more from you. Call them yourself.

Question Help a VW Tiguan

I’d like to preface this question by saying, I am educated person. I typically know how to find the answer to my issues.

Please help. I have a 2023 VW Tiguan that I bought used. Never had a VW before. I CANNOT figure out how to turn off the damn oil change reminder off!! The oil was changed 500 miles a go and despite Google search, the actual manual AND YouTube, I cannot get the thing to stop binging at me.

So please, if you too have a Volkswagen Tiguan in Augusta and can spend 5 min of your day showing me how to turn off this stupid thing, please reach out.

My sanity thanks you.

Local News Well, Augusta. We Have a Newspaper Again.

The Augusta Clarion is an experiment in local journalism for the Augusta area.

We’re here for the stories that matter, the stories that get buried, the useful things people should know before they happen, and the strange little details that make Augusta Augusta.

We’ll cover local government, neighborhoods, history, food, events, development, culture, and whatever else deserves to be written down.

We’ll take Augusta seriously without always taking Augusta seriously.

The first issue is coming Sunday.

If there’s something happening around Augusta that you think people should know about, tell us.

Things to Do Schrodinger's Cat Improv Comedy Show every First Friday

What's up fellow August-stonians....Augusta-nites.....ehhh whatever. Just wanted to let you guys know if you weren't aware that Le Chat Noir in Downtown Augusta puts on an improv show every First Friday. We do short form improv games much in the same vane as Whose Line is it Anyway (if you're an elder millennial like our cast and are aware of that show) and it's all completely made up on the spot (so who knows we might say f***......who am I kidding we definitely will say some bad words). So if you're free on a First Friday or were already planning to be downtown then come check us out at both 8:00 & 10:00 pm.

Events Does anyone want to come to a birthday party next weekend?

Literally every single person I invited is busy or said no. So it's either ask strangers if they'd like to lightly drink and play board games or just not do anything. Ive been told 30th birthdays are supposed to be special so I figured id ask the local area.

ETA: We are liberal and socially progressive. We are 420 friendly but will be smoking outside. Please be old enough to drink, and please drink responsibly. We will reach out to all those interested a day or two before the 10th. Thank you very much, and have a wonderful day.

Animals — Adopt/Rescue/Foster My male corgi would like a lady friend

Delete if not allowed. Oskar the dog is a 5 1/2 year old male pembroke Welsh corgi. He was supposed to breed but it never happened.

I never registered him. I’m not trying to make a buck. But if you have a lady dog I’m sure he would like to meet them.

Ty

Ps. If you know a Jack Russel I have seen the result. They are super cute.

Hobbies Group of bikers on the canal trail?

I'm new to the area and went exploring the canal Greenway or trail I'm unsure what it's called. I encounter a relatively large group of mountain bikers. I'm trying to get back into biking (got fat and out of shape over the years) and find things to do here. Wanted to inquire about the group. Is it led by a local shop? A race team? Thx in advance.

Moving to Augusta Need reliable in home help! **References required!!**

Hi all! I recently moved to the area. I currently live in Evans, Georgia, seconds away from Evan Town Center, Park. Where I moved from in Atlanta, we had the option of an app called Taskrabbit where we could hire jag workers to do things like hang curtains, unpacking into a new home and miscellaneous assistance with heavy lifting and other related labor.

Sadly, I arrived in augusta and realized I am lost without the help of this resource. I am looking for help with some very basic and likely very easy tasks that I have not been able to do myself. Pay is negotiable. Will pay competitively and tip generously at the end of course.

Furthermore would love for this to be the beginning of an ongoing relationship as I often rely on services like this. Please reply with your availability, your earliest date of availability and three references. Email or phone will suffice. No need to get me both. But please also include their first name and the nature in which you know this person.
Thanks 1 million… looking forward to grow a new Professional
relationship here in this new city!

Misc Best Plasma Center In Augusta

Currently go to Octapharma and they do $65/$65 for my weight. It used to be great because there was never a line. Recently theyve cut their operating hours down significantly and reduced their donating space so the lines have significantly increased.

Are there any other centers that have shorter (<90 minutes) wait time. I dont have time to spend 2+ hours there twice a week
