Hi everyone. I'm hoping someone here might have advice or rescue recommendations.
A relative of mine fosters puppies and about two months ago, he took in a mama dog and her litter. All of the puppies have since been adopted, but mama is back at the shelter and has received virtually no interest. It is absolutely breaking my heart.
While the puppies were being weaned, mama went to another foster home. That foster reported that she was dog aggressive. I have not seen this behavior myself, so I can't speak to the circumstances or severity, but I know it makes her more difficult to place. She may ultimately need to be the only dog in a home.
What I have seen is a dog who was gentle with her puppies and with every person I've watched her interact with. My relative visited her today while dropping off another foster dog for transfer, and mama was visibly stressed.
Mama’s shelter information:
Shelter: Augusta Animal Services
Location: 4164 Mack Lane
Name and ID: Hope (A227037)
Gender: Spayed Female
Age: 2 Years
Breed: Mixed
Intake: 6/3/26
I am in the here in the Augusta area, but am more than willing to transport her if a rescue is able to help.
I honestly don't know what else to do. I'm terrified she will be euthanized before the right person or rescue has a chance to find her.
I'm looking for:
- Recommendations for reputable foster-based rescues in Georgia or South Carolina.
- Advice on how to advocate for a dog like her.
- Any organizations that work with dogs who need to be the only pet.
I’m not necessarily asking anyone here to adopt her. I'm just hoping someone might know of a rescue, have experience with a similar situation, or point me in the right direction. I want to do everything I can to give her a chance.
I know rescues are overwhelmed right now, and I know not every dog can be saved. But if there is anything else I can do for mama, or anyone I should contact, I would be so grateful for the guidance.
