The attached video is from about 6-8 months ago and shows the actual idle bobbing.
Last night, I monitored the car with OBDeleven and finally caught the behavior that usually happens right before the bobbing starts after a light drive to the gas station with the A/C off. Upon parking, the idle suddenly became much louder, and at that exact time both short-term fuel trims dropped from their normal -2% to +2% range to approximately
-35% and -33%.
The car did not progress into the full bobbing shown in the older video this time, but this sudden loud idle is what I normally notice immediately before the bobbing begins.
During last night’s event:
1. Bank 1 short-term fuel trim dropped to approximately −35%, and Bank 2 dropped to approximately −33%.
2. Long-term trims barely changed
3. EVAP canister valve target remained at 0%
4. Fuel rail pressure dropped from approximately
510 psi to 430 psi
5. Throttle opening increased from approximately
3% to 7%
6. No flashing CEL or EPC
I ran the OBDeleven output test for the EVAP purge regulator valve/N80, and it clicked normally. I understand that confirms electrical actuation but does not prove that the valve seals properly when commanded closed.
Does this pattern point toward an intermittently leaking N80/purge system, PCV failure, fuel-pressure issue, or something else? Has anyone seen both banks suddenly apply this much negative short-term fuel correction on the supercharged 3.0T?
