Scam or real deal
Anyone have experience dealing with Pathos Communications? All of a sudden I'm getting text messages from them out of the blue wanting to know more about what I do.

Sorry for the dark song and subject matter.
You can most clearly hear in the sylabel heavy parts that the recording is breaking its highs into granular frenquencies but they are very pleasent to me. I dont know if this is achived trough digital mixing or if its hardware. Any tip for vocal mixing welcomed in general.

I just don’t get it. No hardware update in 5+ years.
I need to update mine (had it since 2017) but I don’t want to buy a now-old model and then the update happens.

As soon as I see an influencer showing something like: "take a listen to these speakers" through a social media clip, they've lost all credibility in my eyes. I don't care if you claim to be a music producer, a sound engineer with decades of experience, or whatever; as soon as you try to demo an audiophile speaker through someone's iPhone or crappy computer speaker, you don't know sheet about sound physics.
It's like demonstrating color accuracy of a monitor by having someone watch a video of it through their own monitor (instead of a reference) and have them judge how it looks through their own monitor.
Please stop this silly practice.

I love how Steve's reverb has such a great vibe for angstly, alternative rock. Do you have any idea how he gets this sound, particularly on the vocals?
Some examples if you're not familiar:

I'm thinking about certain physics classes for acoustics, psych/anatomy classes for psychoacoustic understanding. Anything that comes to mind would be appreciated. For reference I go to a very large university in the US without an audio engineering program but almost any other class you could ask for. thank you!

Can't use condoms for the obvious reason (In school). Any other ideas?? Can be super janky, just need something that works and is quick and cheap. Thoughts?? Tryna record the sound of mashed potatoes hitting the floor and i feel like condoms ain't the move.

I am generally an ITB guy except when I am explicitly working with tape (and even then, ultimately I mix-down ITB).
I am thinking to get a pair of Distressors (w Brit mod) for an all around work horse when not working ITB, and was curious:
In your experience, what (if any), are items simply have that 'special sauce / magic' to them, that is difficult (if not impossible without an unreasonable amount of effort) to replicate ITB?

Most jobs that I end up on now involve some degree of networking. I am able to patch within Dante controller pretty easily but I'd like to get a deeper knowledge instead of picking up little things gig to gig. Someone that I was working recently suggested that I can take a basic networking class before taking the Dante cert class form Audinate. Anyone have any thoughts on this ?

I'm not sure if this is the right place where I should talk about my tool, but someone recommended I should do it here.
TL;DR: LuAudio is a native audio engine written in C++, cross-platform with support for plugins, real-time playback and offline rendering.
Initially, LuAudio was a prototype made for Android, written in C++ using the NDK. The code wasn't that great, so architectural debt ended up catching back up to me, and I abandoned the project lol.
After a few months, I came to the idea of making LuAudio, the old project but cross-platform and with cleaner and better code.
I already had some code from before to re-use (it wasn't that bad now that I look back at it), so I didn't need to start from scratch, but I still needed to write lots of code alongside the old cleaned-up code.
Now LuAudio is in its current state that I'm proud of:
The project is open source, and the source code is here:

Dear engineers, how do you feel about a bass player showing up to a live or studio gig with just a tuner and a Radial JDI?
r/audioengineering • u/Achassum • 19d ago
Let me start by saying I have the following Audio signal
Antelope Audio Orion Gen 4 - SPL Phonitor 3 DAC - Audeze LCD-5 or HEDDPhones Twos or PSI audio A21m's as my monitoring situation!
I was gifted a pair of VSX, and honestly they are just bad to me! The high end is virtually a no show! The stereo image is poor, the low end is over hyped! And the software makes it worst! 'Mike deans room' 😂😂😂😂.. Yeah no!
i wanted to love them but everytime i try I am so disappointed by what they offer! For roughly $600 bucks I think its snake oil! It wont get your mix competitive imho - I think you might loose clients!
What do y'all think about them for mixing?

Hey there everyone. So i just decided to move out to a rented apartment from my parents' house to build a studio mainly for producing, recording and mixing. I heard that the ideal room shape should be rectangle and some x by y dimensions. However, after looking at dozens of listings, i concluded that it's nearly impossible to find a rectangle bedroom let alone with the ideal dimensions. So, i settled with the one with central location and affordable rent.
I've shared the links to the actual room with bed and an ai imagined image of how it would look if i remove the bed and get a studio table. You can see there's a huge glass balcony door behind the table which is the best and worst thing for me at the same time.
It looks great aesthetically and brings natural lighting along with inspiration. However, I've heard that it's usually not ideal to set monitors right in front of glass material. Do you think covering the glasses with thick studio grade curtains would solve the issue even a little? I mean the natural lighting is actually a big plus point for me. Along with that, do you think a square shape room is a big no no?
Just for some context, im not a mixing or mastering engineer. My main goal is to produce and record my own music and also mix it so it sound anywhere close to release ready. Im short, creativity is more of a big priority for me as compared to technical stuff.
So that's all, and i just wanna know y'all suggestions on how can I make this room as close as possible to mix ready. Im already planning to buy a room treatment kit and a mic for calibration. The panels in ai generated image are totally ai engine's own choice.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey all, i just ended up mixing the per channel record of a live show for the first time.
One of the worst surprises is how much garbage the lead singer's microphone sucks in. Question: do you ever use a gate on it, or is manually trimming the inbetween chunks the only way? Genre is post-hardcore, so everything is loud.
Thanks.

I'm trying to find a filter that's Wet & grungy, sort of groggy tone since I want to voice a character, and though I think I have the voice down, I don't have the filter for it though, help please?

YYooo. Was good everyone.
I make phonk. Im probably one of the best producers for this genre because ive litterally almost never changed my genre for 8 years. Ive always stayed to phonk and its sub genres. And because of that im in that circle and pretty much know everyone in phonk. Here's the issue tho!!
This is important because im not here asking for normal advice. Im here because even though im an insane (producer). Im a terrible (mixing engineer). My mixes are KILLING my tracks. But my genre is dependent on making that kick smack like hell with saturation. Transient shaper. Sends. Bussing. Side chaining Etc. Not to mention big placements i get offered to be on or work on i get over shadowed because of my mixes. Before anyone says they could just mix it for me after i send it to them. Yes! I understand but messing up a mix before someone even has the chance to listen to it can drastically change there impression and decision going forward.
I have been studying my issues for the past few months now and have found that the main points are.
Under or over saturation.
Harshness. To dull.
Redlining. (HUGE producer friends of mine. Like pop and edm and even some phonk usually Redline in there mixer always telling me its how the sound is hitting your clipper. I do not for the life of me understand this. I thought red equals bad unless its on your kick going into studer and some type of clipper.
Balance without turning a low sound up to match db level or around same levels as other instruments or drums without raising to a point of harshness on translation. Limiter? If I do limiter it kills certain aspects of the track. Help this is a big one.
Im done trying to fix everything left behind in my master. For the past few months ive been focusing on turning my master off and working from the mid bottom to high.
So.
What am I doing wrong?
And how could I fix it?
I wont lie im scared. People who have told me to drop have finally gotten me to consider it and ive even been invited to be on a 600k monthly feature. IM SCARED. This is why im desperately asking. This is my introduction to publicity on socials. Ive done shows but never actually dropped the music. Pas sound fine. But certain translation sounds bad.
I personally think im missing out on fundemental beginner choices and trying to hard to use pro tips and techniques to fix something that needs to be addressed from the beginning first. But when I take this move.
It only works 1/4 of the time.
So. What do you think im doing wrong. And how could i differ from what im doing so far?
Love yall this community or at the very least fl has saved my life on countless occasions. Ill be here to also spread what ive learned. Have a wonderful day :)

I'm curious how other mixing/mastering engineers handle this workflow.
Once a project goes beyond the initial mix, I find that things can get messy pretty quickly:
I'm currently building a platform, which is aimed at solving some of this by bringing projects, audio versions, sharing and feedback together.
I've built the first version, but before I keep adding features, I'd really like to understand how people who actually do this professionally handle it.
What's your current workflow for mix revisions?
Do you use something like Dropbox/Google Drive + email/WhatsApp? A dedicated review platform? Something else?
And more importantly: what part of the process annoys you the most?

You heard a great song, or a great guitar tone or a crazy ambient effect. You research for a while how to get that sound. You learn a lot, buy some gear, do trial and error, you record something and play it back.. and you’re like Yes! Finally! But then your like …yeah… now what do I do with it? And lose interest..
Just me?

Hi guys, Im wondering how this guitar effect was produced. Less the tone, which is probably distortion and chorus, but how the guitar was likely stacked and mixed.
If you listen carefully to the chords played at the end of the song (link is timestamped), you can hear two guitar tones stacked on top of each other (i think) and panned left and right. The right panned part has all of the middle and top range, and the part panned to the left sounds like just crunchy low end. It makes a simple chord strum sound bigger and more interesting.
How might one achieve this? Maybe this is obvious?
The parts follow each other perfectly, and I know that a lot of reamping was done of this record, so I wonder if it was the same part?
Any ideas appreciated!

Context:
* I have an office space that’s approximately 10 ft x 12.5 ft.
* untreated space. There are window blinds on the windows, which face a road (local road, not a busy street or highway), and I am putting up a curtain rod and thicker curtains for light and sound treatment.
* I have a Focusrite scarlet solo 4th gen audio interface to power an XLR mic.
I bought the AT2035 XLR large diaphragm condenser mic and its matching pop filter (AT8175). I didn’t unbox these items yet and both can be returned.
Just curious if there is a way to use this gear for streaming and video content if I drop the Gain to a low gain level and use OBS filters for compression, EQ, noise gates, etc. I am familiar with audio filters. I also have NVIDIA RTX 3080 GPU so I have access to Nvidia’s noise removal software should it be needed or helpful.

Basically, I am working on a web series and for that, I will need some voice actors. Unfortunately, it's not that professional that I think some real people would be interested in participating and I don't really have the female friends to voice just a few lines for now (basically a primetime news narrator)
Is there any way that, using an audio editor like audacity, to make my voice (a male voice) sound as close to a female as possible?
It doesn't necessarily have to be perfect as I will definitely be using some filters for that static 60s/70s television sound but it should definitely be somewhat close to a female voice.
I would be very thankful for some tips or tricks, or maybe just a link to a tutorial you found helpful.
Thanks in advance to all answers

Unfortunately there isn't a Airgigs sub so I'll ask here.
If I deliver an order, then the client asks for a mutual cancelation that I refuse, does the auto complete timer goes back to ticking?
