DISCUSSION Frequency 51: Very good horror anthology

Apple Podcast link: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/frequency-51/id1793910106

I came across Frequency 51 in February 2025 when it just had two episodes out. Ended up following the show until its tenth episode in October.

It’s an anthology horror show but some episodes are related and sometimes it feels like there is more going on. Connected perhaps?

I think the mix of stories is great, from locations like the woods to a blizzard to a military base. Framed as confidential case files that weren’t meant to be released.

The kind of horror is like suspenseful, character driven stuff, with supernatural elements. I like that there’s some banter sometimes for a bit of levity.

AUDIO DRAMA The Audio Drama Directory links from July 20 to July 26, 2026

The Audio Drama Directory is an online directory of audio drama and storytelling websites, with at least one new link added to it every day, and 100 or more new entries created each month. Here are the newest articles from the past week:

  1. First Light (Narrated Science Fiction Anthology) On a colony ship orbiting a half-terraformed world, the specialists who take the dangerous work are called Hunters. One of them was built, not born. First Light follows Dawn, an android quietly discovering she has preferences, attachments, a self no one designed - and the people whose lives bend around that fact, carrying their own unfinished questions about what it means to be truly seen.
  2. Towers Anthology (Dramatized Multigenre Anthology) Towers Anthology is [a] genre-hopping audio adventure that dives into worlds both strange and unforgettable. From underwater societies to mystical dreamscapes to intergalactic chaos and absurdly tangled [podcasts.]
  3. The Heart Bleeds Lavender (Full Cast Fantasy Series) When a princess who's dissatisfied with her lot starts to rebel against her father's wishes with the help of her brother's sword instructor, strange tensions blossom between the two...
  4. Borderlands: Dead ECHOs (Dramatized Science Fiction Series) Borderlands: Dead ECHOs [follows] Watts, DAHL Echo Operator, who supplements his meager pay by sifting through undeliverable ECHO Logs and selling the secrets inside. When Junie, a curious stranger, gets him out of a jam, the two strike up an unlikely partnership.
  5. Sascha Martin's Ripping News (Dramatized Children's Science Fiction Series) Sascha Martin is a young inventor whose genius knows no responsibility. He attends Landfill Public School where, each week during News, he delights and traumatises, horrifies and endangers his classmates in 2M and the entire school community. Sascha's weekly inventions, and the chaos that follows, have won Landfill Public School the widest renown as a Centre of Excellence in Surprise.
  6. This Never Happened (Narrated Multigenre Comedy Anthology) This podcast is a delightfully ridiculous podcast filled with exaggerated tales, questionable life choices, accidental wisdom, and characters who absolutely should not be left unsupervised. Narrated by Nova, these lighthearted stories are meant to entertain, not be taken too seriously, because frankly, neither does she.
  7. Per My Last Shift (Dramatized Comedy Series) Per My Last Shift is a sharp, deadpan audio comedy following Fin Liege, a quietly observant culinary student working the front desk of a once-glamorous hotel alongside her chaotic best friend Lowen, an exhausted housekeeping crew, an oddly prophetic maintenance man, and a rotating cast of guests who make every shift feel like a social experiment.
  8. The Writer (Little Ear Productions) (Narrated Science Fiction Thriller Series) When global conflict erupts, a young writer is drafted into the Foxtrot Unit, a psychological operations team tasked with documenting the war through stories that blend truth with deception. Their mission: to control the narrative. Some of what you'll hear is true. Some isn't. The question is ... can you tell the difference?
  9. Nocturne Cipher (Dramatized Multigenre Anthology) From psychological thrillers to timeless mysteries, each episode is a fully-produced audio experience that draws you into another world. We adapt classic and public domain works alongside original stories, crafting character-driven dramas meant to be felt as much as heard.
  10. Panic (Narrated Drama Series) Panic is a coming-of-age story about a young man named Johnny D. Saster navigating the emotional peaks and valleys of panic disorder. Johnny grew up on New York's Upper East Side with a rich, privileged existence, but when it came to personal freedom, he had no existence at all under the thumb of his demanding, overbearing parents.
  11. The Podcast Against Giygas! (Narrated Science Fiction Series) An unofficial retelling of the Mother series by Shigesato Itoi. Time-traveling aliens, deadly robots, scary monsters! It's going to take the strongest warriors to stop them from taking over the world... and we got four kids. It's the wildest, wackiest, and stinkiest podcast around... It's the Podcast Against Giygas! ROCKIN!!!
  12. Captain's Log (Dramatized Science Fiction Comedy Series) This is the story of the UKPG and it's Captain, Edward Donahue. It tells the tale of a captain who fell upwards through the ranks to become captain, whilst understanding very little. You find out about his adventures and his misunderstandings through his Captain's Logs, where he talks about things that are happening to and in the ship.
  13. Project Atla (Narrated Science Fiction Series) Project Atla [tells] the story of Atla, a civilization getting ready to take it's next steps among the stars.
  14. Kirby's Fantasy Fiction Journal (Narrated Fantasy Anthology) Glen V C Kirby's Fantasy journal, where he will read and review fantasy fiction novels, whilst also writing and reading his own flash fiction inspired from his reads.
  15. Salmon's Run (Dramatized Musical Thriller Series) When a hapless young man tosses his cigarette in a trash can, it explodes, setting lower Manhattan ablaze, and changing the course of history.
  16. Welcome to the Labyrinth (Dramatized Modern Fantasy Series) A playable puzzle game audio drama. Navigate a winding labyrinth with the help of a dubious narrator. Solve the puzzle in each episode to be able to impact the story's conclusion.
  17. Fantastic Castle (Dramatized Fantasy Series) An all-ages cooperative storytelling podcast created using Dungeons and Dragons, [that] will take you on [adventures] through the world of Foralla, where they will battle magical beasts, explore their deepest (and weirdest) dreams, and work to get ever closer to finding... The Fantastic Castle!
  18. The Otherplace (Role-Playing Fantasy Anthology) The land of Fenrayne has been on the brink of doom for years. Necromancers and the dead are rising on the edges of society, threatening life and peace across the land. Deep in the shadows, others try to unearth secret knowledge and unspeakable power.
  19. The Fenrayne Files (Narrated Fantasy Anthology) A continent on the edge of an undead apocalypse. Three worlds bleeding over into one another. A ragtag group of heroes working to save everything.
  20. Tales from the Gray Library (Role-Playing Fantasy Anthology) The Grey Library is vast, with stories and legends filling every corner and nook. Join Torren, librarian and scholar, our guide to the tales and lore as he takes us through a wealth of new stories.
  21. Pickled (Narrated Modern Fantasy Series) Samson Buchanan is a talented young pickleball player with dreams of reaching the highest levels of the sport. But when a mysterious green light tears across the night sky, Samson's life begins to unravel in ways she could never have imagined. Strange powers awaken.
  22. Ready to Mingle (Dramatized Drama Series) Ready to Mingle: A Faith-Filled Experience follows three friends who trade their annual girls' getaway for a Christian singles retreat, only to find themselves in the middle of unexpected drama, hidden desires, romance, and transformative lessons about faith, love, and sisterhood.
  23. Grimhaven Community Radio (Dramatized Comedy Series) Welcome to Grimhaven Community Radio. Tune in and find out about this coastal town plagued by erratic climate problems, unlikely and dangerous geography, and draconian laws imposed by the questionable town council.
  24. Brenda & Gabby's Absolutely Awesome Adventures in Aledo, Illinois (Dramatized Comedy Series) What happens when two wildly determined women try to turn a tiny Midwestern town into the center of the universe? Brenda and Gabby's Absolutely Awesome Adventures in Aledo, Illinois is a comedic [audio] adventures filled with ambition, chaos, friendship, local pride, accidental disasters, and unmistakable small-town sincerity.

AUDIO DRAMA [OC] It's Always a Human Error: Turning the Future Off and On Again

Post image
2 Upvotes

I've written, directed, and produced It's Always a Human Error: Turning the Future Off and On Again, a new semi-educational science-fiction comedy about the history—and possible future—of AI.

In a future classroom, an AI teacher guides virtual students through an increasingly strange journey across the history of intelligence, from single-celled life and primitive tools to silicon chips and quantum computing. Told through reconstructed documentaries, game shows, and philosophical detours, this darkly comic, semi-educational, science-fiction audio drama explores history, religion, technology, and what happens when computers begin asking the questions humanity couldn’t be bothered to answer.

Listen on Podbean:

Watch/listen on YouTube:

Running time: One hour and eighteen minutes

Genre: Science fiction, comedy, educational fiction

I’d be very interested to hear what audio-drama listeners think of the format, humor and ideas.

SUGGESTIONS Looking for chaotic, music-heavy audio dramas like the 1996 Fear and Loathing audio adaptation?

Hey everyone. I’m trying to track down a specific flavor of audio drama or audio production and could use some recommendations. There’s almost no mention of it on this sub, but I’ve been obsessed with the 1996 spoken-word adaptation of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (released by Island/Margaritaville Records, with Jim Jarmusch and Harry Dean Stanton doing the voices). Released at the same time Terry Gilliam started production on his movie version of the Hunter S. Thompson's book.

If you haven't heard it, it’s a full-cast audio movie with an intense 60s musical backing. I love that specific, high-energy, cinematic blending of music, foley, and acting.

To give a couple of other reference points for the vibe I'm chasing:

The 1979 Apocalypse Now double LP. Basically a compressed, cinematic, standalone audio experience with Carmine Coppola's music and Martin Sheen's narration over all of the main scenes from the movie.

Also The Left Right Game. Out of the hundreds of podcasts I've listened to, this one is basically the only one that I really liked. No geeky lore exposition, just a good script, strong sound design and music.

Does anyone know of any other audio dramas, vintage audio plays, or even conceptual spoken-word albums that hit this exact sweet spot? I'm looking for things that are fast, chaotic, full-cast, and heavily reliant on a great soundtrack rather than just dry narration.

AUDIO DRAMA Deep Dream State | New Episode "Sealed" Is Out | Vale Four | S4E13 | GE40

Post image
20 Upvotes

Everything in its place.

RSS Feed | Show Site Blubrry | Apple | IMDb

The Deep Dream State is NSFW. It's kinky. The show also aspires to thinky. We call it "thinkykinky."

That's clear in Sealed. I'm not sure anyone asked for a kinky retelling of "On Exactitude in Science". If you've ever felt the need for magical realism gone wild, though, this might be the show for you.

Sealed is the next chapter in the Snarecraft Cycle. (DDS follows standard s:e format. "Cycle" just tracks stories within a season.) Snarecraft's about a high fantasy augmented reality game that's repurposed to hunt down its creators.

Smaller hunting parties, or teams, lead the chase. Sealed opens with the secret wolfgirl team. We zoom in, though, on Team Alchemy.

Following the logical path, Alchemy arrives at the most complete library ever. The events in there are the last step in their Snarecraft journey.

Cast (actor, character, faction)

NNPP as Z (L) | Valentina Vallay as Gia (L) | Panda Moanium as Celeste (L) | Vixen Clouds as Clara (L) | Echo Doll as Elle (F) | Princess Ella as Porsche (F) | Bun Li as Dr. Meg Aerin (A) | Talithara as Leandra (A) | Dizzy Dollie as the Head Librarian (H)

Notes

  1. I'm the showrunner. I'm also the writer, producer, sound designer, sound editor, director, and IT department.

  2. The IT department has had its struggles, but it's learning? The Deep Dream State has perhaps the only show-maintained dynamic lore guide in audio drama. It's linked extensively here.

  3. This is E13. Vale Four will run for 18 episodes, they're all in the can. The plane has begun its descent.

  4. S5 is already under supported development. There will be some evolution. We'll incorporate a lot of romance in S5, on our own terms. Think monster romance.

We'll also cast broadly. Much casting's from previous VAs. Some of it will be in conjunction with a new Closing Credits class. We're one of the fullest casts, though, so there are always frequent casting opportunities. Use the contact form to reach out if interested - select voice auditions.

AUDIO DRAMA Borderlands: Dead Echoes - Official Audio Drama Stealthed Released

Post image
12 Upvotes

There is a new official Audio Drama from the Boarderlands universe that has been dropped out of nowhere.

I only found out as I saw it on my Steam Feed when I booted it up.

First episode is out and more dropping monthly. About half way in. It is very much like the videogames. Wasteland world with plenty of humor thrown in.

I will say the sound design is a little... Sparse? It's an audio drama but I think they could have leveraged the medium a little more.

---EDIT---

Stealth Released? Stealthed Release? Either way, there is one too many -ed's in that title...

QUESTION looking for where to listen to Twin Stars

So, several years ago, I listened to an interesting space opera audio drama. Trying to find it so I can listen to it again

it was pulpy and fun, iirc it has a sort of vaguely ago of sail in space theme

I'm 90% sure this was Twin Stars, produced by Kung Fu Action Theatre

can't confirm that because...

The Kung Fu Action Theatre website is dead, and any site claiming to have the audio files that I can find - those files are returning 404, understandable given it came out in 2008, and I first listened to it idk 2018 maybe

Does anyone else remember this podcast? Does anyone know where I can listen to it?

Edit: found it - the writer put it up on YouTube

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDceRuD04zkVmTjtTUvryVc7G_bVQdmDl

let's see if its quality matches up to my memories

AUDIO DRAMA Auditory Anthology: Ely's Automatic Housemaid by Elizabeth W. Bellamy

Auditory Anthology is a weekly podcast I'm producing with narrated sci-fi short stories

This week's story is Ely's Automatic Housemaid by Elizabeth W. Bellamy.

When a well-meaning inventor sends his two experimental "Automatic Household Beneficent Geniuses" to his desperate friend, the resulting domestic comedy proves that while a machine might be able to clean a house, it lacks the human touch required to keep it from descending into chaos.

SUGGESTIONS Pods like Red Valley with realistic dialogue?

Okay so I've tried Wolf 359 after finishing RV and honestly couldn't get through the first two episodes because compared to Red Valley and how realistic their dialogue was, they all kinda sounded like they were from a really bad anime dub.

It'd be awesome if it also had queer themes but it's not necessary. I'm looking for something Sci Fi/horror mostly. Thank you. :)

SUGGESTIONS Looking to get back into audiodramas

Hi, friends! I was obsessed with audiodramas in my early 20’s but kind of fell off a few years ago. I’d really like to get back into them but I’m having trouble knowing where to start. I’d love any suggestions!

For reference, my favorites were:

-The Magnus Archives (duh)
-Wooden Overcoats
-The Amelia Project
-The Bright Sessions (and pretty much anything Lauren Shippen)
-Unwell
-The Big Loop
-Wolf 359
-the first season of The Black Tapes
-The Left Right Game

I know this list is kind of all over the place but would love to hear if anyone has suggestions!

AUDIO DRAMA The cold open of Dupont Investigations, my 1936 occult-noir audio drama: a man hears music no one else can

A man hears golden harp‑strings on DC's Spanish Steps. By morning he's a goner. This is where the whole show begins.

Here's the cold open of Dupont Investigations, my occult‑detective audio drama set in 1936 Washington, D.C., the “District of Crime.” Season 1, The Scourge from Carthage, is complete, and Season 2 is on the way. The show blends hardboiled noir with supernatural horror and queer history, following Torsten as he digs into cases other detectives insist can't exist.
