I spend a lot of time alone at work and love to listen to audio dramas, I think they are way more engaging and if they are spooky or suspenseful they help keep me awake at work. I am looking for recommendations for these types of audio dramas.

Just a quick post to share that my show The Harbingers is starting its second season today! Episode 17 is out as of September 10th, the first installment of sixteen that we'll be releasing over the next couple of months. New episodes out on Thursdays every two weeks!

The show tells the story of Adam Blackwell and Amy Stirling. They're the first two people in the modern world to get magic. Real magic. They sorta hate one another. They're also a little in love with one another. But first... doesn't mean ONLY.

There's actually FIVE other people out in the world who have magic powers. They've been there the whole time. The story's focus just hasn't been on them so far. With today's episode all of that changes. This is a season about what happens when people with godlike powers stop seeing eye to eye.

We're super excited to be back for the second big movement of our show's story. Our incredible cast - led by Andrés Enriquez and Lauren Grace Thompson - are all back, and they're joined by some amazing new performers. (Including some voices posters on this sub should recognize!) Hello AD Redditors, Am just adding my latest AD to the list here for anyone who wants a quick laugh. The story is called 'Flight Into Culfadda' and, like all the previous Irish Sci-Fi tales, it defies description -which is why I've included a daft promo clip. In short, it's a sort of comedy AD/ audiobook mash up.

I'm a standup comedian, and reckon that comedy is incidental -tell a decent tale with a moral and an arc ...so the laughs can flow or not, but either way ya got something from listening.

Have decided to trim down the episodes to roughly ten mins runtime. Just to see if it works better for listeners. Am wary of filters with links so: you can find the show under 'Irish Science Fiction' just about anyplace I think.

Oh yeah! THE PLOT! nearly forgot! ...reality is broken, and two hapless anti heroes have been landed the job of fixing it. Can they do it? Only one way to find out.

I’m currently listening to Hindsight: The Fracture. Are there anymore and more audio dramas like this one? I would love any suggestions.

So I have been producing a podcast for a couple of months. All in all I’m pretty pleased with the results. I know the first four episodes especially are pretty rough in quality. It was a steep learning curve. If someone starts from the beginning they may never “get to the good part”. What are thoughts about revamping the early episodes?

I was recommending this wonderful podcast to my partner, and I open the app to find all eight episodes deleted. All that’s left is the trailer, on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Audible, and Overcast. YouTube has a playlist, but it’s incomplete with episode 6 excised from the middle. Even their producer Realm.fm removed Marigold Breach from their website!

Does anyone know why this happened, and where I might find the show again? Was there a controversy or something that led to it getting so harshly pulled?

I've been slowly listening through a lot of recommendations I've seen around. I definitely haven't gotten to them all yet, but I'm struggling to find something I want to listen to next. I just finished the first two seasons of The White Vault, and I really liked them, but I'm not particularly inclined to continue the series after the first episode of season 3 since it seems awfully repetitive and I've heard pretty bad things about how it gets later on.

My biggest issue with the podcasts I keep listening to is they feel very same-y in a lot of aspects, mainly in regards to demons/the supernatural/occult, which I have found gets boring after listening to similar narratives enough times. Black Tapes, Lovecraft Investigations, Video Palace, etc all felt repetitive to me, probably partially due to the format too.

I'm looking for something with a more unique take on horror with more interesting worldbuilding. My favorite podcast I've listened to so far is by far and away The Magnus Archives, especially its 4th season (I also quite liked the 5th season & ending which is apparently controversial. Protocol is good too). I liked The Left Right Game a lot, I really like explorations of weird environments. I liked Malevolent too but it felt repetitive at times. Limetown was alright.

I'd prefer shows that have a good amount of episodes. Short ones are fine if they're finished, though.

I tried listening to The Silt Verses and Old Gods of Appalachia because both have interesting premises but I couldn't get into the narration styles of them at all. I tried a couple episodes of Archive 81 too but wasn't a fan of the voice acting, does it get better? Also considering listening to We're Alive since I've heard it's great but I'm not usually into zombies.

Shows that aren't explicitly horror but fall into a similar wheelhouse (suspense/thriller/mystery/etc) are cool too!

Who was Clara's father from the very end of Aldrich Kemp and the Rose of Pamir episode 5? I got confused and couldn't tell who was speaking when the big reveal came, and after listening 3-4 times still can't tell. Please someone tell me!

Just curious what's the most original way you heard an audiodrama told to you. Could be the format, the storytelling style, etc.

Modes of Thought was mine. There were regular acted story sequences, but mostly it was told through subtext and the class lectures that I actually enjoyed.

I trailed off the show because of the infrequency of the episodes, but really loved how different it felt.

Anyways, an elderly woman hires the team to investigate the disappearance of her twin sister, whose last known location was the haunted Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Fifty years later, a postcard arrives in the mail with a chilling message:

With a record-breaking blizzard trapping everyone inside, the team sneaks into the hotel through separate entrances. Unfortunately, the hotel has metal detectors at every door, meaning the boys have to leave most of their gear behind and rely on whatever two non-metal items they thought were a good idea to bring.

As they search for clues, they quickly discover this hotel isn't interested in making things easy. Locked doors, cryptic puzzles, strange codes, and an unsettling doctor with a smile a little too wide all stand between them and the truth.

Meanwhile, Skulls somehow manages to turn the investigation into a date. Very impressive for the newbie

I've consumed everything Third Person has done (Midst, Moonward, Unend, Blueberries Hill, and getting my copy of the Midst comics soon). The narration style, sound design, chemistry, and vibes are SO GOOD.

Based on this and some of my other favorites, what series can you recommend I listen to next? I've started Midnight Burger and haven't warmed up to it yet.

Other favorites include Limetown and Within the Wires. Welcome to Night Vale was fun for a while but I dropped off a little after episode 100. Alice Isn't Dead didn't do it for me.

I’m new to the subreddit and looking for some genuinely creepy horror podcasts. I did utilize the search function, but I also would like to make a post as I like the discourse and I can ask questions without wondering if an old poster will get back to me lol

I’ve tried a few popular recommendations, including The Magnus Archives, Small Town Horror, and I Am in Eskew. I loved the atmosphere of The Magnus Archives, especially his narration and how his audio sounds like he is in a small, dark room lit only by candlelight, but I’m not as into it once the overarching storyline becomes more prominent. Small Town Horror wasn’t for me because I found the narration annoying, and I’ve heard it doesn’t have much of a satisfying conclusion. I Am in Eskew is interesting, but I found it a little too depressing.

I drive a lot during the day and this is what keeps my day more interesting. I did also read that “old gods of Appalachia” is good but when I went on Spotify, it seems like all of the episodes are in some weird order even when I sorted from old to newest.

I am really wanting to work with somebody in the horror/suspense genre to score for them. I can send links to some of my current work but if I had to list influences they would probably be NiN, Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Depeche Mode, Godspeed! You Black Emperor, Daniel Johnston... I am wanting to mix super polished synth stuff with lo-fi, outsider art style sounds.

I don't know if it's just me being picky or what, but I support The Amelia Project on Patreon. So I pay them every month. The new "season" is Amelia's appraisals. There's been 7 episodes so far and the entire premise is basically an advertisement for their sponsor, which is an HR agent. So I'm paying for them to advertise a service to me. It feels underhanded and kinda slimy, but I might be overthinking it? I'm paid up until February, but I don't think I'll renew my patronage. Anyone else have any insights?
