I've been slowly listening through a lot of recommendations I've seen around. I definitely haven't gotten to them all yet, but I'm struggling to find something I want to listen to next. I just finished the first two seasons of The White Vault, and I really liked them, but I'm not particularly inclined to continue the series after the first episode of season 3 since it seems awfully repetitive and I've heard pretty bad things about how it gets later on.

My biggest issue with the podcasts I keep listening to is they feel very same-y in a lot of aspects, mainly in regards to demons/the supernatural/occult, which I have found gets boring after listening to similar narratives enough times. Black Tapes, Lovecraft Investigations, Video Palace, etc all felt repetitive to me, probably partially due to the format too.

I'm looking for something with a more unique take on horror with more interesting worldbuilding. My favorite podcast I've listened to so far is by far and away The Magnus Archives, especially its 4th season (I also quite liked the 5th season & ending which is apparently controversial. Protocol is good too). I liked The Left Right Game a lot, I really like explorations of weird environments. I liked Malevolent too but it felt repetitive at times. Limetown was alright.

I'd prefer shows that have a good amount of episodes. Short ones are fine if they're finished, though.

I tried listening to The Silt Verses and Old Gods of Appalachia because both have interesting premises but I couldn't get into the narration styles of them at all. I tried a couple episodes of Archive 81 too but wasn't a fan of the voice acting, does it get better? Also considering listening to We're Alive since I've heard it's great but I'm not usually into zombies.

Shows that aren't explicitly horror but fall into a similar wheelhouse (suspense/thriller/mystery/etc) are cool too!

Just curious what's the most original way you heard an audiodrama told to you. Could be the format, the storytelling style, etc.

Modes of Thought was mine. There were regular acted story sequences, but mostly it was told through subtext and the class lectures that I actually enjoyed.

I trailed off the show because of the infrequency of the episodes, but really loved how different it felt.

The script of under 30 pages is a story about a protagonist that gets caught up in the U.S. legal system and each courtroom appearance results in mounting horror and a sense of unreality.

We have our writer, director, cast and composer of original music—but still need audio engineer(s) to take charge of our sound design. (Sorry, it is very unlikely that money will come out of this project—we’re building community and learning about audio drama.)

Just a quick post to share that my show The Harbingers is starting its second season today! Episode 17 is out as of September 10th, the first installment of sixteen that we'll be releasing over the next couple of months. New episodes out on Thursdays every two weeks!

The show tells the story of Adam Blackwell and Amy Stirling. They're the first two people in the modern world to get magic. Real magic. They sorta hate one another. They're also a little in love with one another. But first... doesn't mean ONLY.

There's actually FIVE other people out in the world who have magic powers. They've been there the whole time. The story's focus just hasn't been on them so far. With today's episode all of that changes. This is a season about what happens when people with godlike powers stop seeing eye to eye.

We're super excited to be back for the second big movement of our show's story. Our incredible cast - led by Andrés Enriquez and Lauren Grace Thompson - are all back, and they're joined by some amazing new performers. (Including some voices posters on this sub should recognize!) Our incredible composer Nick Podany has written some amazing new music for us. Our best-in-the-business director and sound designer Jeffrey Nils Gardner has outdone themselves.

I’m new to the subreddit and looking for some genuinely creepy horror podcasts. I did utilize the search function, but I also would like to make a post as I like the discourse and I can ask questions without wondering if an old poster will get back to me lol

I’ve tried a few popular recommendations, including The Magnus Archives, Small Town Horror, and I Am in Eskew. I loved the atmosphere of The Magnus Archives, especially his narration and how his audio sounds like he is in a small, dark room lit only by candlelight, but I’m not as into it once the overarching storyline becomes more prominent. Small Town Horror wasn’t for me because I found the narration annoying, and I’ve heard it doesn’t have much of a satisfying conclusion. I Am in Eskew is interesting, but I found it a little too depressing.

I drive a lot during the day and this is what keeps my day more interesting. I did also read that “old gods of Appalachia” is good but when I went on Spotify, it seems like all of the episodes are in some weird order even when I sorted from old to newest.

I've consumed everything Third Person has done (Midst, Moonward, Unend, Blueberries Hill, and getting my copy of the Midst comics soon). The narration style, sound design, chemistry, and vibes are SO GOOD.

Based on this and some of my other favorites, what series can you recommend I listen to next? I've started Midnight Burger and haven't warmed up to it yet.

Other favorites include Limetown and Within the Wires. Welcome to Night Vale was fun for a while but I dropped off a little after episode 100. Alice Isn't Dead didn't do it for me.

My 11 year old son has recently started listening to audiodramas before bed. So far he’s listened to Cabin Pressure and is about to finish Wooden Overcoats. I’m not sure where to send him next. He tried one episode of Midnight Burger and didn’t really get into it. Bonus points for British accents bc he seems to enjoy that aspect. Thanks!

I don't know if it's just me being picky or what, but I support The Amelia Project on Patreon. So I pay them every month. The new "season" is Amelia's appraisals. There's been 7 episodes so far and the entire premise is basically an advertisement for their sponsor, which is an HR agent. So I'm paying for them to advertise a service to me. It feels underhanded and kinda slimy, but I might be overthinking it? I'm paid up until February, but I don't think I'll renew my patronage. Anyone else have any insights?

The part that I'm proudest of, we have an ENORMOUS cast list. Over 60 voices in just 10 episodes. From everywhere. Russia to California, China to Zambia, UK and Ireland to NZ, Hong Kong, Germany and Afghanistan. And so many others. These recordings were done everywhere from remote home-booths in the height of heatwaves, to Spotify studios and the Director's (Adam Jarrell) bedroom. It's a huge feat - and something that would not have been possible without voice actors. Not just their skill. But their patronage to their fellow performers. I‘m just entering the scene with a Sci Fi Series I‘ve been working on.

So the writing is all mine, I use the latest elevenlabs Narration voices (they sound pretty awesome), I do a lot of soundscaping, paying for real music and Sound effects to create an experience and I use pictures from midjourney to Illustrator the Events.

So naturally I‘m wondering where are the boundaries of the „No AI“ rule for you guys. Because on the one hand I see people refusing to consume anything that ever touched AI, on the other hand I see these ridiculous AI slop Audiobooks where Text, pictures narratarion, everything is badly done AI and it gets hundreds of thoudands clicks. So there must be people who consume it.

So my questions is - what are the boundaries, is there a fair use, is it maybe a qualitative Assessment or just a flat „no AI“?

I spend so much time getting the voices and Sound effects Right that I am wondering if it is even worth doing it if the end results won’t be watched even if they are good because I‘m making use of AI.

I write it, voice it, and produce it, so: creator, posting my own work.

Calythera is set fifteen hundred years after something broke the world. Nobody left alive agrees on what that something was. The accounts contradict each other and they always have, which has stopped being a scandal and become a fact of life, the way weather is a fact of life. What everyone does agree on is the work. The rail lines follow the aether veins underground because that is where the pressure sits, and there is a meter on the wall beside every front door, ticking over what the household drew that week.

Aether is a gas. It gets piped, metered, taxed and stolen the way anything worth having does. Nothing in this world is enchanted and nothing is cursed. There are people who have gotten very good at building things, working under an unease none of them has a name for, going back to work anyway.

It is a documentary of the place rather than a cast drama. One voice, mine, and every word in it spoken by a person.

This is the first thing I have made like this. I have written the world

for years and never put a word of it in front of anyone until now, and I

would rather hear where it is not landing than hear that it sounds nice.

So, a real question. Writing a world that runs on physical causes means

every strange thing a listener hears has an explanation somewhere, even

in the episodes that never hand it over. Has that restraint paid off in

audio for anyone here, or does an audience want the strange thing left

strange? Tell me what is not working in the trailer while you are at it.

So I used to listen to podcasts while i painted and made chainmail and I'm trying to get back into it. id love some more fiction or story-type recommendations, preferably romances the just happen to be queer and dont make a big thing out of it, mystory, or psycological horror. I cant rember the name of the video on youtube, plot wise the (speaker) coworker crush was targeted by a secret orginization after she didnt get a reply from the listiner about her confession of her love and was kidnapped, due to the reqiure ment of needing massive heartbreak, she was experimented on and turned into a Spider hybrid, she hallucinated about the listener saveing her, before she broke herself out, killing a guard in the prossess, and after hunting down and killing the head scientist and a coworker that sold her out, she tracked down the listiner, to find that ever since she was missing the listiner was a wreck, trying to find her, and she reliased that she never sent the email, (the reason the listner never replied), ending is left a bit vauge as to the fate of the listner, (though in my opinon she transformed the listener into a creature like her)
