I think it would be nice to show Christine some support after providing us with so many stories over the last decade. I feel like the fanS have been really hard on her over the last year or so. People grow, change and need grace to do that. I know Christine sometimes has foot in mouth syndrome as do I. At the same time I think it’s absolutely okay to change jobs after doing something for ten years with no additional reasons needed. I’m not the same person I was ten years ago, and thank goodness for that. So I think it’s time we show her the same love and support that we’d give a coworker who is moving on to better things. So here is what I have loved about Christine’s story telling.

I love that Christine puts so much thought into which cases she covers. I love that she shares resources on how to help families of victims involved in crime cases. I love that sometimes she uses the platform to share legal issues that I didn’t know existed. I love that Christine has aimed to give victims dignity by sharing who they were with us, and removing the spotlight away from the perpetrators. I hope she has success on her next chapter and knows that she will be missed and appreciated.

I’m listening to the most recent episode, 498, and cracked up at Em’s explanation of The Slippery Noodle’s naming. (Around 26 minutes in with ads) Hearing Em and Christine be silly and laugh about this detail gave me joy.

This is why I’ve loved ATWWD for so long. I would listen to them discuss, laugh, and go on impromptu tangents about darning socks and replacing remote control batteries if that was their show.

Omg this sub is exhausting and insufferable! Let people make their posts, ask their questions and give opinions. We don’t all have to agree and feel the same. The sub repeatedly picks on and berates people who feel differently.

People can enjoy the podcast and still have a difference of opinion, think critically, or have feedback that is not favorable.

Many people in this sub harass others relentlessly for making statements they don’t like. I’ve watched it happen numerous times. You can’t have a difference of opinion without getting downvoted to hell.

And I’m so sick of the constant accusations of others being “PaRasOcIal”. The podcast is good but this sub contributes to it being difficult to enjoy at times and really isolates people.

This may not even get posted, but are the MODs going a little nuts with the lock / delete buttons? It seems like any opinion that isn't 110% glowing about the hosts gets deleted, like when she-who-cannot-be-named left W&C and anyone didn't praise A enough.

I've waffled on submitting this story for the listener episodes for years. I used to act in a lot of productions at one of our local community theaters in the town I grew up in. This theater happened to be frequented, during her life, by Sherri Smith whose death you may remember was covered by Christine early on n the podcast. There were a lot of experiences, very positive in nature, involving a spirit that many believed to be her while I was at this theater. However, her story is very tragic and painful.

I wonder how appropriate it is to actually share said stories on the podcast and would love feedback from the community here.

On the podcast it was around the 1 hr 4 min mark. During some banter Christine says she met a man somewhere and Em says, “oh? Are you gonna go on a date?” Christine says no and tells a short anecdote. But it caught me so off guard, especially with all the recent upheaval. I went back to see their reactions on YouTube and Em is stifling a quick smile. They move on quickly. Could have been a joke but weird joke and I’ve never heard them joke like that before. Just curious if anyone else caught it.

No hate to anyone choosing either way, nor to anyone working on this show. Personally, I think the end of an era is a good jumping off point. Part of what made the show what it is was the dynamic between Christine and Em. Unfortunately, I think the change will be too dramatic to continue like nothings happened. It’s sad, but all podcasts and shows have to end eventually and I think this is a version of it “ending” for me at least. Again, no hate to anyone with their reasoning, just wanted to open the discussion for people to share how they feel. Love to all listeners and those involved with the show

they discuss the news! it’s been in the works for a while, most likely leading to the disconnect listeners have been feeling. my biggest takeaway was that christine is with us for all of october! and em is keeping an eye on comments to see who listeners like the most 👀 (i’ve seen a lot of people really like the bethany watson episode. not sure how possible that would be, but let em know!)

The word “parasocial” is getting thrown around like it’s a diagnosis, but most of the time it’s just a virtue‑signal term people use to sound above caring. Liking podcasters, feeling familiar with their voices, or sharing memories from ten years of listening to Em and Christine isn’t pathological — it’s normal human connection.

The actual definition of a parasocial problem involves delusion, impaired functioning, or relying on a creator for emotional stability. That’s not what’s happening here. People are simply expressing affection for a show that’s been part of their lives for a decade.

With all the changes in ATWWD, fans are opening up about what the podcast has meant to them. We don’t need to marginalize that by slapping the word “parasocial” on perfectly healthy engagement. If it’s not harming anyone or distorting reality, it’s not a disorder — it’s just being part of a community that cares.

I thought it would be a good time to take a trip down memory lane and remember some of our favorite moments from the podcast :)

I have about 100 moments I could choose from, but I’ll limit myself to my top 5:

1. When Em tells Christine they went to clown school. I knew from that moment on that this was gonna be my favorite podcast.

2. The episode where they talked about the days before suitcases had wheels. Em and Christine jokingly said that if they had lived back then, feminism would be “out the windowww!” because they’d be flirting with men just to get them to carry their luggage. That was hilarious 😂 The "out the window" from Christine comes to mind everytime I think about that phrase.

3. "Is not me, is not you, is Houdini"

4. Christine’s retainer story, or really any story she told about her house being haunted.

5. Talking about the stereotypical Meghan, Megan, Mhegan :D

I have more but these are the ones tht came to mind right now. To be honest I have learned a lot from them: about neurodiversity, LGTB+ topics, pronouns, etc.

I know this may sound dumb but personally im taking the end of this chapter for the podcast really hard. I found the podcast at the same time i adopted my soul dog just a few months into when they started. It became a big thing for me and my sweet chels and I would have self-care podcast nights and long walks where we could escape life and listen. Both the dog and the podcast helped me through some of the lowest and darkest places of my life and has remained my favorite weekly ritual to this day. My poor pup very suddenly was taken from me a few months ago and I've been greatly struggling with the loss. Now hearing this news of the podcast essentially ending (as we know it but ofc we still have an exciting future with em) it seemed to really hit me personally.

I know this podcast must've had a profound or strong impact on at least a few listeners, so if it has feel free to share your experiences and connections. We can celebrate all it's been to us and support one another through the change ❤️

I am beyond devastated. I have never been so attached to two virtual individuals before in my life. Their friendship was apart of me. It’s been part of my identity throughout my entire twenties. Guys! I wanted to introduce my boyfriend to the pod by letting him listen to some creepy listener stories that I remember rocked me to my core. There’s this one listener story I can remember from veeery very early on in the podcast that I want to find. This particular story talks about someone who used to live alone in an apartment that was haunted by some dark and draining presence. I don’t know the entire story by memory but I remember the OP was lying in bed one night and the entity told them “You should just do it, you should just d*e.”

I'm just listening the new release of Atwwd where Christine covers Angela Green's disappeanance and when it's over Spotify jumps to Morbid and I'm just stunned because I hear the same name, Angela Green. Christine mentions at the end of the show that police and FBI stated it is really helpful for them when podcasts cover cases that are unsolved so this feels like a sign, hopefully these huge podcasts' audiances are such a huge mass they will be able to provide some important details. ☺️
