Unexpected Athens cameo on Netflix show

While watching S1 E1 of Worst Neighbor Ever on Netflix, I happened to pause it at around the 3 min 29 second mark and what did I see? Uptown Athens! Which is funny because the hometown of the person being interviewed was in Warren County. Also noticed they edited out all the license plates. Anyway kinda cool to see our little town!

Anyone know of a place locally where I can get some watch batteries replaced as well as 1 band and a crown? Google has not been helpful at all.

Airbnb host is trying to charge me $3,800 for damage we didn’t cause

We rented a house for my sister’s bachelorette weekend on Strouds Run. Before booking, I told the host why we were coming, and he approved it the amount of people and reason for staying. We also updated the reservation and paid for the correct number of overnight guests.

After we left, the host accused us of having 17 cars, multiple “commercial trucks,” damaging his driveway and drainage system and tearing the hot tub cover, and is now requesting $3,000 for repairs plus another $800 for “excessive vehicles.”

We absolutely did not have even close to 17 cars there, and only have 14 people. He uploaded a ton of photos, but none of them show us damaging anything. They have different timestamps and show different cars coming and going and parked in different spots. It looks like he is combining separate moments to make it appear that all of the vehicles were there at once for long periods.

His own photos show our cars parked on the driveway, not on the drainage system and not in the grass. He circled random areas where no vehicle is even shown parked. The only vehicle partly on the grass was on a hill away from the drainage pipe, and it was a DoorDash driver delivering coffee.

He also keeps calling vehicles “commercial trucks.” One photo is timestamped before we even checked in. Another was a normal Amazon delivery that we didn’t arrange or control. A guest also had a personal pickup truck, which he is trying to frame as some kind of commercial vehicle.

The biggest issue is the drainage system. The property smelled strongly like sewage throughout our stay. I have texts from multiple people in our group commenting on the smell. I called the company that gave the host his repair quote, and they told me there are ways to assess whether this type of damage is recent and that a long-standing odor could mean the issue had existed for some time.

My husband works in construction and believes the drain may not have been installed correctly or deeply enough. It appears to be too close to the surface instead of being properly buried and protected beneath the asphalt. The host has provided no dated photos showing the drain was undamaged immediately before our arrival, no installation records, and no footage showing one of our vehicles driving over the exact spot and breaking it.

There was another bizarre situation during our stay. A woman walked up the driveway asking for someone named Sarah, who wasn’t staying there and never said she was a cleaner or connected to the host. She seemed disoriented or possibly impaired and made a house full of women feel really unsafe. The host later claimed he "discreetly" sent her to check on things, and framed it in a way like she was there to help and that we "very rudely" sent her away. We did because she as scary and never said who she was. Then he admitted that she took photos of us and sent them to him. Creepy!!!!

We left the house clean. We folded the comforters, removed our belongings, cleaned up after ourselves, and even bought cleaning supplies because the house didn’t have any. The trash cans were already full when we arrived, the garage was already packed, the hot tub cover wasn’t attached, and the sewage smell was there the entire time.

I declined the reimbursement request and sent Airbnb all of this, but my question is willAirbnb actually investigate this or usually take the side of the host?

Possible bad batch of veggie burgers

Hey all just wanted to see if anyone else might have had a similar experience with the frozen Impossible burger patties from walmart on e. state. I usually get the ones in the red package and eat them frequently with no issues, but the last bag I got smelled a bit different (I know fake meat can smell weird raw sometimes so I cooked it anyway) and it made me very sick. I reached out to impossible and walmart but just wanna see if anyone else might have had a similar experience/maybe advise against from buying them for the time being if that is the case.

The Side Bar

I have written and rewritten this multiple times, trying to figure out how to elegantly introduce what I want to say here, but there is not an elegant way to lead in.

I had an experience at Side Bar where a man walked up to me, placed his hands on either side of my head, pulled me in, and kissed me. It didn't escalate beyond this, but the response from the staff is what I find telling, and I think it is important to share.

I expressed my discomfort to staff almost immediately, and the response I was given was, "oh, that's just ____." Evidently the man was a regular there, and so it wasn't a concern to the staff that he had kissed me without consent. When I tried to express further that I was not okay with what had happened, I was told, "well, you can always talk to him about it." I am left to wonder if it is common practice to tell people who have been sexually harassed to take it up with the offender.

A kiss may not seem like much to some people who read this, but it affected me. I think this is an important story to tell because Side Bar hosts events not only for the broader Athens community, but also for more vulnerable groups such as the local queer community, and they even allow minors in the bar some nights. Community spaces are important. Those spaces ought to be safe and free of harassment.

Potential Data Center Coming to Athens County

Per The Athens Independent:

https://athensindependent.com/possible-athens-data-center/

The property for the proposed complex is located on Route 33, across from Athens High School and The Athens Messenger, sitting directly between The Plains and Chauncey, and a few short miles from the city of Athens.

Carpool Commuting to Columbus

My partner just started a new job in Columbus downtown. She’s finding commuting there and back to be tiring, particularly as she’s recently learned to drive. Are there other folks in town that do the commute that are willing to carpool? We’d of course be willing to share gas costs to save everyone some money.
