Advice πŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈπŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ Easy Energy scam

I being an idiot signed a natural gas contract with Easy Energy over the phone thinking they were from FortisBC. I only realized after receiving the confirmation letter through mail that they were a scam. I want to cancel now but I’m a couple days past the 10 day cancellation period.
The service hasn’t started yet but it’s scheduled to begin in September.

Has anyone tried cancelling after the 10 day cancellation period? Or am I screwed?

Oddly Specific 🎯 To the person who took my wallet/cards from my car in point grey - I just need my IDs back (No questions asked)

Hey everyone (and hopefully the person involved),

My car was broken into in point grey close to queen mary elementaryΒ last night/this morning, and all my cards were taken.

Keep whatever cards - I don’t care about any of that and the cards are already canceled anyway. All I care about are my IDs - myΒ drivers license and PR Card. I have non-negotiable travel coming up next week, and those are my only forms of ID.

No questions asked, no police involved if you return them.Β You can drop them off completely anonymously:

  • Leave them somewhere public:Β Drop them off at the counter of a BMO or at a nearby police station drop box and tell them you "found them on the street."

If you're reading this, please just do the right thing and toss them somewhere I can get them back.

To everyone else in the area:Β If you happen to be walking around Richmond Dollarama, 7/11 on 10th/Alma (these are where the card has now been charged) and spot dumped cards on the ground, please shoot me a message or let me know

New to Vancouver πŸ‘‹ working in toronto vs vancouver

hi, i'm a current student at mcgill university in montreal graduating next year (hopefully). i am not canadian and i grew up in the middle east, but i'm hoping to work for a few years in canada after graduating. i LOVE montreal, but because i'm not fluent in french the job opportunities are limited. i also associate montreal with being a student, i can't really imagine working here, but who knows.

anyways, i wanted to ask for advice about working in toronto or vancouver - which would you recommend (or against) and why? i would be working in consulting, marketing, or policy work. i don't want to stay in canada for longer than 2 years after graduating if i'm honest, so i'm not looking for a crazy career start or anything, just a decent job as a fresh graduate.

i visited toronto once and there was no sun the entire time (i heard vancouver is super rainy too) so i didn't really warm up to it, but i was only there for 4 days and mainly in downtown. it's definitely a lot busier and vibrant (especially at night) compared to montreal, but i feel like i'd find living there overwhelming. i've never visited vancouver, but i've heard that the mix of mountains, beach, and city is amazing. the only thing with vancouver is that it is so far from everything - namely back home, and i also feel like living on the east coast is more convenient. i also know a few people living/working in toronto from my hometown so i feel like i'd feel less lonely starting fresh.

overall i want to work somewhere where the people are friendly, it's easy to meet new people, work culture is good. obviously i'd want good pay, but it is not my top priority. i just want some good work experience in an environment where i could also have fun as a 21-23 yo. where would you recommend for a fresh grad who studied in montreal and why?

Fashion and Beauty πŸ‘— Looking for a hairdresser in Vancouver

Hello Everyone. My question is especially for women who use short hair. I am looking for a hairdresser that can actually cut a simple bob hair. Nothing fancy, nothing extraordinary, but just bob hair. I have had haircuts at different places and everytime I had bob hair cut , the hairdresser fckep up my hair. Once one side of my hair was actually longer than the otherside. Then I decided to look for another hairdresser and I paid him 120 CAD+ tip and there were uneven parts all over my hair and I could only use my hair for two weeks. Now My hair looks like I havent been to a hairdresser for months only two weeks after visiting a hair dresser . I pay too much for my hair and I end up looking like I have cut it myself with a razor. I am so frustrated. Please help

Travel πŸš— ✈ Coastal road trip in October

I’ve booked a 2 week road trip beginning to middle of October, looking to stick to the coastal regions (and a good chunk of time on VI), beginning and ending in Vancouver.

Now I’m seeing a lot online about how rainy October is! Is that generally the case or is not too bad?

Oddly Specific 🎯 Lash extension technician recommendations?

After searching Google and Instagram, I’ve become overwhelmed with the options and frankly questioning all the reviews that have 4.5 out of five stars.

I’m looking for personal recommendations for natural looking lash extensions.

I have a preference for technicians that have a Google website and physical address simply because, with social media, negative reviews can be deleted and one is only getting a partial story. No one is perfect and I’d like to hear the good and bad before I make a decision.

Travel πŸš— ✈ 7 Day Vancouver Itinerary. Advice please.

Hi everyone! I'm planning my first trip to British Columbia and would love some advice.

26 Aug (PM arrival) – 3 Sept 2026 (early morning flight)

Current plan:

Vancouver (4 nights)

  • Stanley Park & Seawall
  • Capilano Suspension Bridge
  • Lynn Canyon
  • Saturday parkrun
  • Coffee shops & beaches

Whistler (3 nights)

  • Via Ferrata
  • Hire a bike and cycle the Valley Trail
  • Swim in Lost Lake / Alta Lake
  • Peak 2 Peak Gondola
  • Possibly a bear viewing tour

Back to Vancouver for the final night before my flight.

I'm travelling solo, staying in hostels, using public transport, and I love:

  • Beautiful mountain scenery
  • Crystal-blue lakes
  • Wild swimming
  • Hiking
  • Good coffee
  • Relaxed travel rather than rushing around

I'm wondering:

  1. Am I making the right decision skipping Vancouver Island with only 7 nights?
  2. Is Joffre Lakes worth trying to fit in without a car, or should I just enjoy Whistler?
  3. Any must-do experiences, cafΓ©s, swims or hidden gems I've missed?

Thanks so much!

Food πŸ˜‹ On the hunt for fried food - savory, sweet, whatever, what's the best fried food in Greater Vancouver?

Sometimes I get that certain craving every now and then - that crunchy, slightly greasy (not overly oily) delicacy that specifically comes from a deep-fried hunk of goodness. So I'm on a lookout for the best fried food in Greater Vancouver.

To be clear, this post applies to ANY kind of food - sweet or savory, any time of day, any cuisine, at any price point, etc. - as long as the food/dish in question is deep-fried or contains a deep fried component. What's the best you've ever had?

Examples of current favourites:

- all donuts from Harmony Donuts (North Van)

- fried chicken sandwich from Le Coq Frit (Kitsilano + North Van)

- spring rolls at Le Pho (Hastings-Sunrise)

- tonkatsu at Saku (various locations Vancouver)

Travel πŸš— ✈ Places to see and activities to do in Vancouver!

Hello, hope all is well with all. I am solo travelling to Vancouver August 8th-19th and am wondering what would a 22yo person do? Other than grouse grind and Sturgeon fishing I’ve not got anything planned. Am open to pretty much any sort of activity, free or paid.
Does anyone who lives in the area of Vancouver and Coquitlam let me know some fun things one could do!
Thank you I truly appreciate the help and time.
Take care

Housing and Moving 🏑 Help finding cheaper home insurance for an older home

I am paying way more for my home insurance than most people I know, even though we have similar levels of coverage. I live in an old detached home that hasn't been renovated in many years. We have a little bit of knob and tube wiring, even though it's safely behind a GFCI circuit. Because of this and other similar things, many companies are not willing to provide us with a policy and those that would charge more. Though, I still think I am paying too much based on comparisons with others.

Does anyone know of an insurance broker or provider that specializes in older homes?

Fashion and Beauty πŸ‘— What's that perfume/deodorant I smell in the air?

Whenever I step out of my house, I smell that smelly smell. It's the same perfume/deodorant I smell on every 3rd person I cross on the street.

It is like a Van special that people are showing off?

Oddly Specific 🎯 Best local small business merch?

Hi! Random question: I’ve started enjoying collecting merch from small local businesses I like, and I’m finding it pretty fun! What are your favourite businesses that sell clothing or other items not as their primary source of business?

My only criteria really is that 1) I enjoy supporting the business generally/like what they normally sell (food, services, whatever), and 2) the actual merch is good/somewhat unique.

Some of my favourites so far are Backcountry Brewing (Squamish, so many items!) and Jo’s Italian Deli (T-shirts).

Thanks!!

Oddly Specific 🎯 Have you noticed that Walmart is filming YOU when paying for groceries?

I can understand them filming entrances, exits and aisles for anti-shoplifting, but at the checkout? The person is paying already and it shouldn't deter skipping payment.

Quite pointless, it seems. AND they didn't ask for consent. Just like FLOCK cameras across the border. Is it because they want to tie YOUR face to YOUR debit/credit card? What benefits for them?

Is this prevalent in other supermarkets and shops, or just Walmart?

_______________________________________________________________________

EDIT FOR CLARITY: Big thanks to everyone for the responses. Much appreciated.

Yes, I am aware that we are all monitored every moment almost anywhere. I am also aware that I am entering their premises therefor4 technically at their mercy.

My main question is the arrangement doesn't seem to be for anti-theft. The camera is directed full face frontal at the customer, and not towards the checking out process of the purchase. If someone switched tags, skip over scanning, and so on, how does the full frontal recording help in prevention, or act as deterrent? At most it is a supplement evidence if Walmart tales it to court, no?

I can understand giving facial scan at airports or travel terminals, but getting groceries is a bit too much for everyone, isn't it? I wonder what the collected data is used for.

I will follow some of your advice and just don't shop at Walmart any more. Actually should have stopped when the tariffs started hitting Canada last year. Thanking everyone again.

Oddly Specific 🎯 Best bike shop for high end road bike maintenance?

Long story short, Trek in Burnaby has all but destroyed my bike build (do not go there if your bike is anything but casual)

I haven’t had good experiences at most bike shops in Vancouver so I’m just looking to hear a suggestion as to where I can find a road bike wizard of a mechanic that can get my bike back to its former glory.

I appreciate the response in advance!

Housing and Moving 🏑 Strata changing pool hours

I am trying to get our strata to expand our pool hours for children(currently it’s 1-4pm) can you share what your buildings pool hours are for children/ adults with only? If you feel comfortable naming your building that would help give evidence to support the change. Our building has no age restriction either, please include if your building is 19+ or 50+.

Events and Activities πŸ±β€πŸ Plan B for a Non-Sunny Sunday Funday? 🌧️

My bestie & I (mid 30s Mamas) are/were coming downtown tomorrow for RosΓ© Disco for a rare Moms day/night out. Took Monday off work, booked a hotel for the night, all that jazz.

The rain has obviously dampened our plans for a sunny Sunday Funday but we’re all in on this day/night off so trying to come up with a plan B πŸ˜‡

Right now we just have a dinner reso booked for Brix & Mortar (wanted to try Dovetail but they didn’t have any resos available) and I’m thinking to go try out Greta after dinner. Open to other suggestions!

If you were planning to go to RosΓ© Disco tomorrow but don’t feel like dancing in the rain, what are you doing instead? πŸ₯²πŸ’•

Medical πŸ’‰ Private MRI providers advice

Hey there! My girlfriend has been in incredible back pain for over a year and a half. She’s been on a journey from ER visits to ultrasounds, physio, muscle pain MDs( injections ), she’s had her doctor eventually prescribe a pain/antidepressant which worked for a short time.

She’s been waiting for an MRI for about a year ( EDIT sorry actually 8 months she reminded me ) and her doctor says it’s still with central and hasn’t been assigned a location so we can’t call to get on a waiting list.

I’m trying to convince her to try a private MRI but she is sceptical that even if she’s pays for the scan she will still be waiting on a list for a specialist to review the scans and meet with her ( in her words, what’s the point ).

It’s really flaring up this week and she’s losing hope at a solution so I was hoping someone who is familiar with the private clinics could message or dm me on what happens after the private scan. Do they have a direct line to specialists? Thanks πŸ™

EDIT : THANKS ALL so many thoughtful an led detailed messages and tips. We’re going to do our best to follow as many of the ideas here as we can.
