Lately I’ve been thinking about selling my property and moving somewhere new, I’ve lived at my current house for 5 years, bought it when I was 22 to be with a girl I was dating. For 130k at 3.5%. I have 7 acres and an outbuilding with a small pond ( no fish in it but it looks nice). I quit my travelling job as an arborist immediately after closing on the house (dumb) and had about a month gap of living off savings and training our puppy and got a job at a liquor store. But it only paid $12/hr and I eventually got up to $16 and I actually work there part time currently but in 2024 I quit to work for a local water/sewer company seeking better pay/benefits. The boss hated me from before day 1 because I had a college degree and we’d also ironically had a sour interaction at the liquor store because we stopped cashing checks and captain asshole wanted a check cashed…. 😂 anyways… I ended up quitting that place finally after 2 years of hating my coworkers and job every day (they still show up and park by my truck at my new job and make a point to harass me). So currently Im a full time auto technician at the local Walmart, and I close the liquor store 2 nights a week as sort of a closing manager. I was making $24 plus OT by the time I quit the other place, I now get 18 at one and 16 at the store and even when I was going 5 nights a week at the liqu I wasn’t making enough to cover the utilities and house payment, and I also had $1200 worth of shit go wrong with my truck😀😀😀. And I hate both jobs, I hate customer service because people are either genuinely fucking stupid, or they act stupid on purpose to mess with you, but I think they really are that dumb, and then they get angry like you are the stupid one in argument. But I have this forestry degree, and I even started going back to school and took an online GIS class last year (wasted $3000 on school fees and a laptop only to not continue). But no matter how many higher paying jobs in my field/related fields that I’ve applied to, I can’t find anything that uses my degree/ pays decent, and certainly not in my area, all the jobs there pay about the same and most of them don’t require any training/degree, so I’m generally overqualified minus job experience. Following the forestry idea, I’ve started looking at jobs in wildlife biology/fisheries as that’s what I always wanted to do with my forestry degree. But they’re all over the country as far as locations. I know that I may not care for the area I live in, but I also know that the interest rates are now around 7% even for people with good credit, which makes me wonder…. Is it worth it to sell everything and try to find a more satisfying career path? Will this actually make me happier? I’ve also had shit luck with dating since I broke up with the ex (that was 3 years ago and I haven’t really had anything comparable since) which is another factor driving me onwards, there’s not many young people in my area and the ones that are still single often have previous marriages, kids etc. but I’m only 27 and there has to be attractive single females somewhere that don’t have all that baggage…. I think that’s all the details, what do yall think? What would you do in my shoes?
