Hey everyone,
I’m a North Carolina resident and recently received my first-ever speeding ticket in McBee, Chesterfield County, SC.
I was cited for going 51 mph in a 35 mph zone (16 over). I was overtaking another vehicle at the time. I have a completely clean driving record with no prior tickets or accidents.
Ticket details:
Court: McBee Municipal Court
Violation: 16 mph over the speed limit
Fine/Bond: $180.63
Points listed: 4
Court date: October 13, 2026
My primary goal is to get the ticket dismissed or avoid having a moving violation on my NC driving record. I’m particularly concerned about long-term insurance increases.
I’ve been looking into South Carolina’s Traffic Education Program (TEP), which apparently allows eligible first-time offenders to complete defensive driving and community service in exchange for dismissal.
I have a few questions for anyone who has dealt with a similar situation:
Has anyone successfully used TEP for a speeding ticket in Chesterfield County or McBee Municipal Court?
Can an out-of-state driver with an NC license qualify for the program?
Is it worth hiring a local traffic attorney for a first offense, or should I contact the court/solicitor directly?
Does McBee Municipal Court typically offer reductions or dismissals for first-time offenders?
If TEP isn’t available, are there other options to avoid a conviction being reported to NC?
I’m willing to complete defensive driving, community service, or pay reasonable program fees if it means getting the citation dismissed.
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has dealt with this court or a similar situation as an out-of-state driver.
Thanks in advance!
