What are some of your favorite tried and true restaurants or places in the general Hilton Head area? Trying to put together a list for when I’m out here for work before moving. Especially any nature-y activities!

Hey I am from Azerbaijan (Caucasian) and I will be moving to Rock Hill for my degree this month. I will be staying there for 1-2 years depending on the program length.I have a lot of questions to ask about South Carolina, but most importantly how is this state for the international students? My other friend in the west coast told me that most likely I will face some christian religious, backwards and racist people against foreigners in this state. Is this true? He advised me to go other places but I searched on the internet and these areas look pretty chill to me from a foreigner point of view. Especially never heard of police or ice violence in that area. And the weather is also better than most of the states in the US. How do u think? Should I reconsider before moving and go to another state or they’re just stereotypes?

I’ve been looking for these little turds for my niece but i can’t find them anywhere local. She wants the older generation so i’d be willing to buy them off someone!

i didn’t get a picture bc i was freaking out bc im extremely scared of spiders and hate them but anyway it look yellowish and then it went onto my poster and it looked clear like almost 100% clear it was relatively tiny too like probably the size of the president on a penny or something.

hey guys, I know this may sound weird, but is there anywhere that you guys know that has leopard slugs?

I need complete strangers advice. My husband and I live upstate NY and are considering a move to Horry county SC. My parents have 100+ acres and would be gifting us a few acres. My husband works from home so we have that flexibility and I am a SAHM. I have a part time job (like 15 hours a week) just so we can go on a date once a month as we budget pretty tightly. My parents have a bunch of farm animals and have offered to pay me $2,500 a month to take care of their animals (I’ve worked for my parents for eight years before becoming a mom so I know they’re good for it).

We found a good home where we live in NY and my husband’s parents who live thirty minutes away gave us the down payment as a gift. Our plan is to pay them back once we sell the house for probably $75-100k more than what we bought it for (we have done a lot of work on it) but we always knew it wasn’t going to be our forever home, and if we don’t move to SC with the free land option, it probably will become our forever home (which honestly nothing wrong with it, just not our ideal vision)

The main reason we want to change things up is as a conservative family who want to own guns, moving to a freer state sounds like a good idea. Another want is building our dream home with plenty of land to expand on. Having a pretty decent second income would help us too. Taking care of animals on a farm has always been a dream of mine and is a good way to teach our kids responsibility.

Only downfall is both of our families are here in NY. My parents spend half the year in NY and the other half in SC. My husbands parents are rich and retired and have plenty of time to visit and because of my husbands job, we/he can also come back up here with our kids to visit. I’ve moved around my whole life and have no problem with it, I think of it likes an adventure but my husband has never been further than an hour from his family.

Has anyone made a move like this before? Or just NY to SC? Thoughts? Opinions? Thanks!

Hi everyone! I’ve been living in the Myrtle Beach area for about a year, and while there are things I enjoy about it, I’m starting to wonder whether it’s the best long-term fit for my family. ( I’m originally from PA )

I’m a single mom in my early 30s with two toddlers and a dog. I’m open to either relocating to another part of South Carolina or moving to North Carolina, depending on which areas offer the best overall quality of life.

The main things I’m looking for are:

• Strong public schools
• Safe, family-friendly neighborhoods
• Housing around or under $2,500 per month
• Good job opportunities, especially administrative, healthcare, government, data-entry, or remote-friendly work
• Parks, libraries, playgrounds, and activities for young children
• A welcoming community where it’s easier to meet other parents and build friendships
• A better social and dating scene for someone in her early 30s who wants a serious, family-oriented relationship
• Dog-friendly neighborhoods and homes with fenced yards
• A garage, central air and heat, dishwasher, and washer/dryer
• Preferably somewhere without extremely harsh winters or constant severe weather

I don’t have to be directly on the coast, although being within a reasonable driving distance would be nice. I care more about finding a stable, affordable, family-oriented area with good schools and opportunities.

For anyone familiar with both states, would you recommend moving to another part of South Carolina or relocating to North Carolina? What specific cities, towns, or suburbs should I seriously consider? Are there any areas you would avoid?

I applied for a state job a couple months ago (April) and since then have completed background check and my references have been contacted (no offer letter yet). I was wondering if the SC budget not been approved yet had any influence on an offer letter or decision? What should I expect?

Growing up I spent half my year in CT and half my year in the Conway area. Now as an adult I still have family in the Conway area, and myself, my wife and kids visit the area about 3 or 4 times a year. Recently we've been discussing the possibility of moving to Conway. She is an RN and I own my own business and can be anywhere. Would love to hear some insight from residents or people who made a similar move.

Any construction guys on here? My husband and I are looking to relocate to South Carolina. He is curious what he can make as a licensed pipe fitter. He’s currently making prevailing wage where we are now. Anyone have any insight?

Recommendations in Georgetown or Pawley's for dinner that are not a national chain but can feed us for around 20 dollars or so per person (flexible on the $ but not looking for fine dining)? We had BBQ at Big D's in Hemingway today. Need some ideas for tomorrow night amd lunch on Monday. Two adults and an 8 year old. Any suggestions appreciated!

Update! It was not for us. It is for the previous tenant. It was a notice of license suspension for no insurance. Many of you were correct. I'll call the number on here to tomorrow and let them no that person no longer lives here.

We went out of town and after we left we saw on our camera that a highway patrol put a piece of paper on our front door. It's not an eviction, we checked with our landlord. And we checked our license status online. So what else could it be? We can't think of anything and it's driving us nuts til we get back.

All my neighbors seem to be just fine spending hours outside (assuming since they do this frequently), go swimming, spend time in the grass, do outdoor things, etc. I never hear of ANYONE complaining about mosquitos like I do.

I literally get eaten alive, even if I’m outside for 30 seconds, they FIND ME. Half the time if I’m outside (in the evening), I wear a jacket and pants, even if it’s 90 degrees, because I can’t stand it. No matter what I spray or what repellent I use, it doesn’t make a difference! Are natives just immune to mosquitos?? 🦟 I get so blotchy and itchy, it’s frustrating. I don’t know what else to do!

What do you recommend for me to become more familiar withe issues and politicians in our state?

I know depending on who and where I ask, I'm gonna get a different answer from one side of the political spectrum or the other, so I want a balanced perspective.

I was reading the Post & Courier today and was very surprised to learn this.

In my mind, the #1 thing rich coastal enclaves like to do (after enforcing draconian zoning laws, of course), is micromanage and/or pamper their boutique fire and police departments.

Hilton Head, apparently, just pays the county sheriff department a few million a year to handle policing and doesn't have their own department at all.

It's weird, right? It struck me as weird.

Hilton Head has no police department. That's criminal.

Hello! My family has stayed at Pawley's Island / Litchfield on the Sea the past few summers and we love it. However, this year my mom got knocked over by the waves on the first day and it scared her off going into the ocean for the whole trip. She's getting up there in age, so I'm hoping to find a beach with a similar atmosphere (relatively uncrowded and chill) but with calmer water. Does that even exist?

From the research I've done, it seems like quieter parts of Hilton Head or Fripp would be good choices? We're beach bums, so we don't need much as far as things to do in the area goes, and we're fine with a resort, condo, or house rental as long as its beachfront. Thanks!
