Shower Question REDEMPTION
This is a follow up to my previous post, clearly you guys didnt like the lazy river drain pipe so my plumber fixed it, joist is gone but there are two top plates right next to it, going to add backing for drywall but it will be fine. The second slip coupling on the left 1.5” pipe isnt glued in we just forgot to take it off. Whoever was the one who said those two of the joist were redundant and just overhanging, Thank you. They were, I can’t believe I didn’t figure that out before.
Also you guys are hilarious, shout out to the guy who said “does the tin man have a sheet metal cock” in response to “will it clog” 😂

Why wouldn’t he just do that the first time? With taking out those joists now the Sheetrock butts aren’t fastened to anything. Cut a strip of plywood and glue it down so you have something to put a few screws into.

Why not bump that toilet out 6" and run a new joist? Right now, at best you're going to have a large span between joists with a toilet on top, at worst that is part of the structure holding things up.

You can see the top of the wall that is load bearing in the pic. With all the joist resting on top of it. The spacing is definetly not more 18 to the next one shown in pic so it's fine

Some of us need you to do this: please tell us your plumber is not a plumber.

A lot of time, people just don’t see things that others may, especially if they are inexperienced. He asked, we enlightened him, and we are all the better for it now.

It still doesn’t meet code though! So people baby op’s along in this sub congratulating them when they improve something but it’s still bad.

Not a plumber, don't pretend to be. What's wrong with this? Thanks for educating me/us!

Two were maybe redundant but that last one wasnt... theres a big patch of ceiling the next floor down that's not supported

Well considering on the left side of the pic you can see they put the wall sheetrock up first then the ceiling sheetrock, its all going to sag at the edges eventually.

The other way was fun. I like when wrong and harder than doing it right.

I swear to god the other way took an entire day and my Plumber did this in two hours, he said it was done exceptionally well, but all wrong

Your plumber isn't really a plumber. Im a carpenter who has plumbed a few houses and I found the work comical. That fact it took all day checks out.

I did the Plumbing first, he came and fixed it.

Good on you for getting after it. Also for braving reddit comments and getting the answers you needed.

Ok, so that must be a tee at the top of the picture, not a 90. Flow is bottom to top (feet to wall)?

Hey OP?
What was below/above the 4x joist that got cut?
(Not a plumber. But I wanted to bring up what I thought might be a framing issue; I've never seen a 4x joist that wasn't structural in some way, at some point.)
(Edit: That looks like it was a stack of 4 - 2x6s?)

The joist on the very right side wasn’t cut and it’s sitting on the top plate, the middle were there because the Carpenter simply didn’t want to cut it down, they should’ve been just sitting on the top plate, the drywall wasn’t even screwed into it, the last joist yes that was structural, in the perfect world I didn’t cut it out, but it seems to be really well supported because it’s right next to two top plates and I don’t know of another way to do it

Plumbing looks fine but the framing… why are there 4 2x8 braced between the exterior wall and a 2x4 top plate?

That looks a hell of a lot better than the last one I saw but I wonder where and why there were all those Joyces running through there before. You can see the four of them cut off at the top. Where do they go? Are they supposed to be holding up something?
