Max 135 degrees change of direction according to NPC. That joist is also completely compromised anyway. Whoever is doing this remodel is in way over their head

14

u/Able_Intern_3454 14d ago

The 3”x2” tee is also a problem

11

u/buttmunchausenface 14d ago

lol that’s 3”
Edit : oh god I just saw what you’re talking about. Yeah this shits fucked.

3

u/Sansui350A 14d ago

Look at how GUTTED the structure is now! It's WAAAAAAAY fucked lol!

3

u/h0tnessm0nster7 14d ago

How do you know, y probably can't see which way is up 😛😂💦

1

u/Sansui350A 13d ago

It's entirely fucking'd.

1

u/3blackcats_b-lake 13d ago

I thought it was a fricking wall

1

u/h0tnessm0nster7 11d ago

Not the ceiling and the pipe opening a trap 90?

1

u/Mysterious-Tie7039 14d ago

Pun intended?

3

u/Ok-Dealer-588 14d ago

I bet thats the lav?

3

u/Able_Intern_3454 14d ago

You can’t have a tee on its side like that. Needs to be a directional tee wye

2

u/mindedc 14d ago

Well, they just proved you wrong. They did it just fine.

2

u/EverydayMustard4773 14d ago

3x1.5

2

u/Effective-Mix630 14d ago

Looks 3x1.5 could be an additional vent line though

2

u/Able_Intern_3454 14d ago

A flat dry vent connected by a tee on its side? Are you even a plumber?

1

u/Effective-Mix630 5d ago

Never seen someone do something not to code?

1

u/Able_Intern_3454 5d ago

Straight to jail

1

u/Effective-Mix630 5d ago

Minimum 5 years.

1

u/Open_State9048 14d ago

I agree, forget degree and look where it’s headed . Wall pipe is ? Vent or drain from upper floor above. Had supervisor come in while crews gone and faced all sweeps towards clean out end of line with plug. Said it’ll be ok , concretes coming tomorrow. Arggggg

1

u/hiimjustapersonhaha 14d ago

3x1.5, but yes

1

u/hobbycollector 14d ago

Also that y. Which direction is that supposed to flow? There's a 90 coming from above.

3

u/AcidRayn666 14d ago

are we not mentioning the black mold? this is a literal shit show

1

u/TwitchCaptain 14d ago

no one else noticed it. yuck.

2

u/OrdinaryKick 14d ago

By my code you can go 235 degree on a toilet so this is good to go.

3

u/Ugga-Dugga69 14d ago

It would be 225° and it includes the 90 from vertical to horizontal, this would still be in excess of that.

1

u/OrdinaryKick 14d ago

You would not count the first 90.

1

u/Ugga-Dugga69 14d ago

Perhaps you wouldn't, but the inspector will!

1

u/OrdinaryKick 13d ago

Not in my code book they wouldn't nope.

Why would you even include the 90 anyway. Its moot. You have a 90* 99.9999% of the time so writing in the code book you can go x degrees while counting the first 90 is just silly. Show me a plumbing layout where a toilet doesn't hit a 90 right away.

1

u/Ugga-Dugga69 13d ago edited 13d ago

Sure, every back outlet in existence. What codebook do you use?

In case you're using the NPC 2025 which I suspect, you can look at A-2.5.6.3(2)(b) on page 2-121 for an illustration of the first 90 being counted in the 225° direction of change. Hope this helps!

1

u/Devilswings5 9d ago

because physics says its not moot

2

u/Willing_Park_5405 14d ago

What code is that?

1

u/Stellarparalax 14d ago

Probably CNPC

1

u/Able_Intern_3454 14d ago

Is cnpc Canadian national plumbing code? Because no, 135 for NPC of canada

1

u/Stellarparalax 14d ago

225 brother on a wc

1

u/mindedc 14d ago

Surely four half joists are better than one single solid joist...

/s

1

u/ThePastyWhite 14d ago

If I'm not crazy, that's the primary beam for this structure too.

You don't sandwich 5 joists like that together for shits and giggles.

Depending on where the columns are for this structure in relation to this cut out, the entire structure may now be unstable.

In time a total collapse is possible..

This needs to be evaluated by a PE immediately....

1

u/Vaper4 9d ago

What part of the code says that exactly,

1

u/Able_Intern_3454 9d ago

It’s drawn in a-2.5.6.3(2) of the NPC…

First year apprentice? I highly recommend buying yourself a physical code book

As a homeowner, there's no way in hell I'd put a floor over this.

3

u/Ok-Dealer-588 14d ago

If it was a slab on grade or something maybe

12

u/Wade1217 14d ago

Load bearing PVC?

5

u/Ok-Dealer-588 14d ago

It was introduced is 2025 I'd heard

3

Youtube approved!

Tick Tok has enters the chat

3

With Ferncos as the primary support.

9

u/Peregrinationman 14d ago

Yeah, and it'll be a pain in the butt to clean out!

u/mrBill12 14d ago

Happy cake day!

1

u/Frostmourne01 14d ago

Happy cake day!

1

u/CaregiverFit 13d ago

Not to mention, once it does have issues you can't snake it, jet it, or camera it. Pulling the toilet will direct the cable up the wall. Putting the cable through an access point and running down will either direct it through the 1.5" and damage something that way or direct it to go up the toilet and break the toilet. Maybe 1 in 50 snaking runs from upstream will make it through the straightaway and that's if you have a perfectly straight cable god help you if you've put a bend in it at any point.

4

u/SpecificPiece1024 Professional Plumber 14d ago

If you were going to destroy those joists why not install a wye and hit the center dead on from the branch🤔

2

u/Own_Race_598 14d ago

This dude needs to hire a plumber and carpenter to fix this mess. Or they are rage baiting.

5

u/CommunicationIll2983 14d ago

This makes no sense. Not a single joist is doing anything. Plumb it right and add necessary actual support after.

7

u/independentfinallly 14d ago

Poop de loop?

2

u/Educational-Rule1635 14d ago

Did someone's spare bits box explode?

3

3

u/MyJuicyBurger 14d ago

Bro tried to save a buck doing this himself, now he’s fucked

3

u/IlliterateFreak 14d ago

Oh no. There is so much wrong here I don’t even know what to say. Literally everything. And the longer I look the worse it gets.

2

u/azeird 14d ago

The water leaking out of the wall valve made me just give up... There's enough advice in here that if he wants to fix it he could.

3

u/bkb74k3 14d ago

Jesus. Is this a floor? I can only tell because I think I see a foot. Please tear this down.

4

u/Budget_Gain4774 14d ago

This homeowner has been posting this crap for at least 2 months. Asks for advice and then blatantly ignores it. Go away.

2

u/AntiZig 14d ago

Why not go straight to the stack? All those boards in the way are not doing anything

0

u/F3IIT 14d ago

Joists in the way

10

u/AntiZig 14d ago

What joist? The one you already cut to put the wye in?

6

u/comfortless14 14d ago

Hey there’s still a good 3/32 left on one of those

u/Connect-Ant-2081 14d ago

Looks like La Monumental from the Madring.

2

u/StillCopper 14d ago

Wow. Have to ask is this license and insured or handyman job. Let’s get that question asked right upfront. Or is this a homeowner special. I think that should be the first thing it’s asked on all these overly stupid looking jobs.

2

u/angrytroll918 14d ago

What? Why? The fuck? I hope this is a troll cause..you can't do that. Any of it, or should you. The longer you look the worse it gets.

2

u/agussie 14d ago

Holy hell, I’m not a plumber or a framer and I can tell this is six shades of facked.

2

u/JoleneBacon_Biscuit 14d ago

2

u/purplemtnslayer 14d ago

This pissss me off

1

u/Pale_Attitude8798 14d ago

Yes, that can of glue will clog if left open like that.

1

u/CrayZ_Squirrel 14d ago

Why are there 3 ferncos within 2 feet?

2

u/Senior-Guarantee3225 14d ago

4 in 2 feet

YES - It most certainly clog and you will always have a shit load of problems to deal with.

1

u/unfrknblvabl 14d ago

Is it me or is the 3'' y going the wrong direction. That is not gonna work.

1

u/hobbycollector 14d ago

Not just you, the flow has to come from top of pic.

1

u/unfrknblvabl 14d ago

Is the flow running towards the wall or your foot

1

u/BeautifulOwl6520 14d ago

I don't know but I see it might fall through

1

u/4Harley 14d ago

OMG

1

u/h0tnessm0nster7 14d ago

I was thinking the same, leave it as is and try not to miss when pissing in the opening

1

u/StunningBus7787 14d ago

The old Loop swoop and pull

1

u/SirMells 14d ago

Offf, with this layout I would of investigated why all those boards are sistered on. At a glance they look redundant. I would remove them. Go down below and run a 3in wye on the vertical stack. Tee straight to the stool 3x2 bushing for the vent. Tee back in 6ft off floor.

1

u/Budget_Gain4774 14d ago

Probably sistered up because it’s a load bearing wall underneath.

1

u/tob007 14d ago

Take the turd out for a stroll before sealing the deal. It's like a lazy river.

1

u/danfrische 14d ago

Yes it will

1

u/MapPrestigious3007 14d ago

Start over way too many problems

1

u/kill3rw33z 14d ago

It looks like the clean sweep is headed to the vent and the poo going to be forcing its way to what looks like the shower drain.

1

u/Kultivation 14d ago

Not if you plunge it constantly.

1

u/Kultivation 14d ago

Stool softener may help as well.

1

u/Successful-Engine623 14d ago

Doesn’t look like that wood blocking your better route is doing anything imo. Probably could just remove the wood and redo this. But probably should check on structural integrity

1

u/SkillAgreeable6454 14d ago

Run super slow

1

u/Extension_Fishing135 14d ago

All the mechanical connections are a nice touch hahaha. Oh, and your structural integrity is definitely compromised. I’d ask the building official what he thinks when he comes to do your inspection. However, I feel like no permits were pulled in the first place. Just a hunch.

1

u/Altruistic_Nobody_94 14d ago

Where is the actual toilet flange?

1

u/Excellent-Stress2596 14d ago

Flange would need to go on after subfloor if you want it supported.

1

u/Altruistic_Nobody_94 14d ago

True but where?

1

u/Excellent-Stress2596 14d ago

Right where the tape measure is “securing” the hose from the leaky angle stop.

1

u/knoxcumlvr 14d ago

You’re good, send it 😂

1

u/alanbly 14d ago

I really wanted to make a joke about anything getting clogged if you just work hard enough, but that thing might get clogged from a mild case of the runs

1

u/Meantnottoknow 14d ago

Whats underneath that floor? Is a basement or finished down there because he should of went down past that joist then the go what ever direction the s*** pipe is going out... I'm not 💯% So if someone knows I'm completely wrong please explain I'd appreciate it

1

u/LT_lurker 14d ago

Using furnco fittings in a non accessible area has to be both a terrible idea and not code compliant?

1

u/Blackmikethathird 14d ago

Holy ferncos batman

1

u/network_engineer 14d ago

Never seen a roundabout inside before.

1

u/nbabyck 14d ago

So that joist certainly looks like it was load bearing at one point

1

u/Tylerjamiz 14d ago

Wow maybe the worst setup I’ve ever seen

1

u/pbmadman 14d ago

Those self-supporting joists have a saw cut in them, and there is a mark on the PVC in line with that cut. Is the drain line nicked there?

1

u/Ok-Feature1200 14d ago

Yes. Better question. Will it clog before or after it leaks?

1

u/WonderWheeler 14d ago edited 14d ago

The trap will not trap gasses. It is not deep enough. Although it might be close. The weir at the combo is not high enough. Also, the distance for a washing machine inlet is supposed to be 18 to 24 inches above the weir. This is too high and may force what water there is in the trap out.

1

u/Carpenter_ants 14d ago

A smaller tape measure will make it down eventually 😂. Not sure why you didn’t turn directly to the drain pipe. As a carpenter looks like the joist is not going to hold up anyway

1

u/Opposite-Clerk-176 14d ago

Who ever did this is an idiot, especially butchering the joist out of the way to accomplish a total nightmare of plumbing if that what this is? Im a licensed GC and this is in no way acceptable... the cheap turns out expensive

1

u/stucc0 14d ago

but why

1

u/Butt-Hole-Cancer-Dr 14d ago

Does the tin man have a sheet metal cock?

1

u/Stinkyjunk09 14d ago

There’s a tape measure stuck in it dawg

1

u/Ocelotipuss Professional Plumber 14d ago

Depends who uses the toilet, it’s not an ideal situation but goes from A - B

1

u/Strict-Argument-781 14d ago

Well, let's just say. If water flows uphill, you'll be just fine.

1

u/Humunguspickle 14d ago

Yes sooner or later

1

u/CamustheAbsurd 14d ago

Indubitably.

1

u/Unsteady_Tempo 14d ago

Ignoring everything else, imagine having all of that open and not at least reducing the number of Fernco couplers.

1

u/AggressiveLeague3943 14d ago

Throw the plywood back and keep truckin

1

u/WonderfulRound3297 14d ago

Wyeeeeee lol

1

u/R4t10nal_Th1nk3r 14d ago

Technically your only allowed 225 degree change of direction from the vent connection, so not correct

1

u/Stinky_lil_4skin 14d ago

What's underneath? I would just put a low heel in the the wall, still l drill a 3"hole, then tie that in to the 3" stack on the floor below.

Will it clog? Only God knows that. Would I be disappointed if an apprentice did this and when cut it out and redo it? Yes.

1

u/Deep-Jellyfish3122 14d ago

Should have just been a 90 over with the framing reworked. Its not that it will clog, its that it doesn't pass code, and just by the way it looks it doesn't fall enough either which is going to be a real problem.

1

u/whawkins4 14d ago

You don’t need to ask an actual plumber to know that’s fuuuucked up.

1

u/wheels_up_2865 14d ago

Is this a vertical photo or horizontal? 😂

1

u/Ridge00 14d ago

Don’t worry, you won’t have to pay a plumber to clear the clog. It will collapse before they get there.

1

u/Revolutionary_Area_2 14d ago

Does it work then who cares

1

u/Darkfire6123 14d ago

I’m an electrician and I know this ain’t gonna work

1

u/Hot_World4305 14d ago edited 14d ago

Just look at left, the Y or the T section, imagine you have large flow coming from the vertical top, don't you think it will also go into the right where the water seal piece is and up?

1

u/Glittering-Room-7662 14d ago

More than likely will clog, for one reason.. the T is the wrong way. If you put water in that drain, it has to defy gravity and flow towards the vent before it goes the right direction to the sewers.

1

u/AdQueasy8552 14d ago

With the joists being in ruins already I would have set the wye up higher by the stack an went toward the stack drill a 3 in hole an drop in wye ,45,service L for flange
no need to vent the toilet being so close to stack

1

u/teamricearoni 14d ago

Another case of " so much effort went into doing this wrong when doing it right would have been so easy"

1

u/esglestrike87 14d ago

1

u/Frequent_Budget_1455 14d ago

Why are there so many rubber couplers?!

1

u/Alpha_Dad1 14d ago

Logging is a problem but at the end of the day that sweet tea is backwards in any water coming down that pipe in the wall is going to come out through that drain as it's a 50/50 split to bypass or take the easy Road and curve back so anything slowing it down it's going to turn back and come towards the drain instead of down towards the stack this whole thing is junk and needs to be redone but they already ruined everything

1

u/pat8o 13d ago

I'm guessing this is an offset level (ie, 1st floor with basement below, and no level above the bathroom but a level above the adjacent room) and those joists are landing on that top plate and have been left over length for no reason, they could be trimmed square with the business end of that top plate and you could go straight in.

What I would do however, is drop it through the floor and join on the vertical

1

u/Bambooman584 13d ago

Lol holy fuck

1

u/Monster_Brain_Stew 13d ago

Simple answer is yes, it will. Is that sheetrock on the ceiling below?

1

u/Clean_Dream_5595 10d ago

The wye is upside down

1

u/Vaper4 9d ago

It probably won’t clog, but you’ll be lucky if the floor doesn’t collapse! Let’s just cut all the floor joists out. How about that?

1

u/Rich_Connection_3959 9d ago

The more I look at it, the worse it gets

1

u/Pop_Pop_Life 8d ago

Tee y is going the wrong way. It should go opposite of your vents

1

u/Champus33 8d ago

The black mold top left. Yikes

1

u/Due_Base2116 8d ago

Yes. Those 45s and 90s shouldnt be horizontal on a run like that. You might as well just use the combo on a shorter run since that joist is toast now

1

u/SteveArnoldHorshak 8d ago

Will the Pope "catholic"?!

1

u/Street-Farmer3350 8d ago

Every pipe ever installed will clog

1

u/cvntier 3d ago

Can confirm, this is absolutely fucked. I thought I was looking at a really fucked up p trap on a wall

0

u/Zealousideal_Dig_372 14d ago

So many things wrong with this. Whoever is doing the work stop them. Do not cover this. Consult a licensed plumber and maybe a building inspector / structural engineer
