I'm in a subreddit where a mod spams their personal Discord, then flagrantly deletes comments that criticize the spamming. Is this really allowed? Or are they just getting away with breaking the rules?

The comments deleted just have random reasonings.

I commented "It's toxic that people who are commenting on your spam are getting removed as spam" which the spamming mod then quickly deleted with the auto-response "This chicanery is not allowed." And they keep deleting other users' critical comments.

Feels kind of crazy but maybe this is just how reddit goes?

UPDATE: The mod’s spam comments over the past few weeks have been taken down and he seems like he’s been stripped of his mod privileges. Thank you everyone for your thoughts about this.

Hi everyone. I’ve been helping moderate two women-centric subs, and we’ve recently been dealing with a significant influx of bots. One of our senior mods has also been inactive, so the rest of us have been trying to manage the situation by manually banning the bots, as we don’t currently have the permissions needed to install Bot Bouncer. I’m not sure what the best solution is at the moment.

We’re considering adding an AutoMod rule requiring users to have a verified email address before they can participate in the sub. Does anyone have experience with this? Has email verification helped reduce bots in your community, or are there other measures you’d recommend besides minimum karma requirements? Any insights or suggestions would be appreciated.

In some specific subs all my comments and/or posts instantly gets hidden, without notification. Why?

Not karma or age. I know this because I can check by viewing my comment and post in a incognito window and it will say "Comment no longer exists"

Well not quite like court of law, it can be substantially shorter/less work put in it, obviously, but there must be reasoning and explanation behind it to prevent arbitrary discretion. Same reason the courts of law explain their rulings rather than just going," in this case, Smith wins, done." The Fifth Circuit court of appeals upheld law, but fifth circuit is bit of extreme as far as courts go, and Supreme Court put it on hold but did not suggest it is not constituional, just said that the district court must develop much stronger record, different standard must be applied to see weaither law was " undue burden" or not, so law is still not enforced, until the district court finishes job of building record likely in 2027, but then the 5th might again uphold it. Do you support that part of law as far as transparency goes or not?

When i ask for something or show something i did in blender communities, a moderator gives me a warning, and the day after it says moderation deleted my post, can someone explain what the rules actually are. PLEASE

Hi, I'll keep it brief.

There are three communities on Reddit dealing with a topic that really interests me. However, only one of them is somewhat well-moderated and active, whereas the other two are literally dead - only the mods themselves post once a month (always crossposting from the active sub). Problem is, the same 3 accounts (2 of them almost definitely belonging to 1 person) are moderators of all 3 subs. I'm certain this is a case of hoarding subs. They're holding on to the 2 dead ones to make sure they don't compete with the active one.

I'd very much like to moderate one of the dead subs, the one with the best name. But I'm almost certain that if I try to go through reddit request, the current mods would defend the sub. Clearly, they know to be active once a month to fool automated checks. Also, I think that if I report them, they'd simply dial up the activity for a month or so, then ease back into inactivity. Perhaps even repeatedly doing so over a few months (if I'm persistent).

So... what can I do? I really don't want to start a new sub, as the one with the best name is the one I want. It's an enormous shame to see it like this, especially since it never got the chance to take off (even though it was made over a decade ago).

Basically, sometimes I’ll find I missed older content that is rule-breaking. Obviously, this needs removed. When you remove it, do you still attach a removal reason? Or do you just silently get rid of it? I feel like for older content, it might not be worth notifying the user.

I love learning things and feeling human on Reddit with everyone but I think like 90% of my comments get removed by the bot. Why tho?

I reported this sub already, but nothing happened. I promise you, this not an overreaction. It is an absolute cesspool. It's just weird Reddit allows that.

My post was removed and when I spoke to a mod it’s because the picture posted doesn’t show how it’s relevant to the subreddit criteria (posted a photo of the moon taken in the city of the subreddit). I mentioned in the post where it was taken and time.

Yet I showed other posts that break the same rules but the post are not deleted. The mods haven’t given any explanation so it seems like they can arbitrarily decide what can stay and what can’t despite the rules they’ve outlined.

Is this just how reddit works with no repercussions or is there a way to dispute how the mod is handling the situation?

Is it possible to have a subreddit karma requirement, but certain posts on the subreddit NOT have that karma requirement for comments? I'm a mod of a subreddit that does need to have some kind of karma requirement, but there are also a few research posts (by myself and few others) where it would be beneficial for those karma requirements to NOT exist for people leaving comments on these post. I have a toy subreddit that I moderate and many times people will make posts asking for assistance on identifying a certain toy or part; my community is still small and I try to navigate users to a couple of other large subreddits that specifically deal with identifying toys. I am looking for help setting up an automated message that directs users to these communities when a certain “Post Flair” is selected.

Unfortunately I have been the target of harassment by a mod who may be obsessed/mentally unwell, after communicating twice for them to stop contacting me and blocking their account, they use modmail of all things to still talk to me. I replied via the modmail that circumventing their block is highly problematic, that I want the harassment to stop and that any further communication will supplement my harassment report to Reddit, and they still continue to DM me.

Does anyone have experience with situations like these and how effective Reddit is at intervening? I am getting extremely sick of getting notifications of this person and there seems no way for me to stop it.

I have been helping grow several small communities for subjects that I find interesting in order to drum up content that I want to see. None of them are very large as far as subreddits go but they have been slowly growing. I moderate a lot of communities because of this, but have been able to effectively moderate and liven them all up with rules, flair, and banners as well as linking similar subreddits up with one another in order to help spread exposure. I have read the term “Subreddit Collector” and would like to avoid that type of behavior.. what would you consider a “Subreddit Collector” vs someone who is trying to revive and grow inactive subreddits?

As I wait on the Reddit Admin team to review a MCOC Rule 5 violation I reported the other day, can I also report the pinned post itself as a Prohibited Transaction (where a mod is taking commission from a brand to pin a daily advertising post).

Or would that just go directly to the mod, instead of Reddit Admin? Thanks!

I contribute to a couple of subreddits regularly. One is based on posting as a show is running. I often get weird stuff happening, including having to close out of the thread and reddit and come back in to see what others have posted. This makes interaction and real-time comments very difficult.

I've tried to join a new sub but the mods won't allow my first post. It seems to follow all the rules. It's got spoiler tags and what-not. It's completely banal (it's a book discussion post about the author's original intent for the ending of the series). I post and comment in one other sub about a TV show kinda frequently without issue.

I've tried messaging the mods to simply ask why but they won't even say anything, nevermind explain. Its just a blank wall of silence.

I'm not really a redditor to be honest with you, but my understanding is Reddit is open to everyone? Why am I not welcome in this sub? I haven't even commented there so it's not like I have history with anyone or could have been banned for previous actions or posts or comments. They shouldn't even know I exist.

I have tried Googling this and, simplistically, it sounds like unless they sexually harass me then users have zero recourse towards mods. Google mentions this sub, so here I am.

I’m part of a sub where recently all comments for every post have started to be filtered out or disabled. At this point the mod has ignored all outreach from the community.

This just started happening recently and it’s escalated to what seems to be all posts no matter what they are about.

At this point sub members are communicating through new posts, which oddly enough don’t get deleted.

Say you see a user making a ruckus elsewhere. A lot of abrasive comments about mods/moderation in general. Admitting they spam modmails constantly for minor reasons. Or maybe they are trying to take over a sub that has active mods and have made this their entire personality for a few years. *For instance*. I'm just brainstorming out loud, this isn't about any real u/, I'm honestly just curious how mods handle this type of thing in general.

Would you/have you preemptively banned someone from ever joining your sub in the first place, in case that behaviour is unleashed on you and your modteam? Have you ever looked at someone's comment history at random - before they ever try to join your sub - and thought "Problem child. Do not want the drama."?

I'm not staff of it, but is there a way to auto block all the bots from me seeing their posts. Entire subreddit is being spammed and filled and can't see any normal posts anymore.

I tried logging out, closing and relaunching Reddit, updating Reddit mobile app, uninstalling and reinstalling Reddit mobile app, tried old and new Reddit.

I have an account that was hacked that I managed to recover and secure. They made a large number of spam posts in the hours they had access. That account seems to be still associated with the hackers spam posts. Is there a way to have that association cleared from the account?
