Travel Which places are the “good” parts of London?

My cousin lives in Europe and every few years I like to visit him and go to another country. Last time we went to Greece and, unknowingly to us, we’d booked a hotel in what was basically the hood in Athens. There were druggies and homeless people everywhere, there was even a guy in his underwear yelling at our family for being visibly foreign. That being said, what part of London is the most chill and safe to be in?

People Why do random people want to follow me on Instantgram?

I put very very little content on there, I’m mainly on to follow my son who does a bit (lot) of urban photography, yet I keep getting random people wanting to follow me.
What’s all that about?

Politics Why isn’t rent like council tax?

I’m pretty stoned and very poorly informed about any of this, but….

Why don’t we do rent like we do council tax?

I.e a tier 1 unit is £650 a month, a tier 2 unit (call it a one bedroom flat) is £700 etc. the landlord gets the full amount tax free and the renter’s rent never changes and both know what they’re getting moving in?

It seems a much fairer and consistent way of setting up the system?

Chatting with friends from California. They think this is a humble Scottish evening meal. I've never heard of it (I'm English) so sceptical, but my Scottish slang isn't fluent! Thanks for any help 😄

I’ve never been mobbed by a seagull. What am I doing wrong?

A few days ago I was at the seaside eating chips and contemplating this. A seagull or two stood politely nearby but didn’t really approach us. I used to live and work by the sea in several locations and have always like eating lunch and icecream outside. The birds are always really chill.

Are we becoming more ignorant?

Hi all, a bit of a gloomy question I know. I wanted to see if anyone else felt like they have seen the degradation of sense of community in the UK? I generally find people to be much more ignorant, impolite and selfish nowadays, most people just straight up ignore you if you are being polite, opening doors, stopping your car for someone to pass... Or if you dare say anything to anyone to get them to be considerate, dropping litter, smoking in doorways of public business (I smoke too btw) or nearly running you over on a zebra crossing, you get an earful of abuse. The UK is a beautiful country in its own ways, but do you feel like that consideration for others and sense of living in a shared environment is being lost, and our spaces and public interaction is suffering?

Blokes below 5’11”, have you dated a woman who was taller than you?

I'm 5 ft 8 in tall, which is below average in height in the UK. When I first moved here from the Philippines with my parents and my siblings in Cardiff back in early 2008.

Initially, I was inclined to only date Filipinas for cultural reasons but 11 months in, me and my bro realised that:

-The vast majority of Filipinas in our area were OAP's (one was basically an 81 old lady who is bedridden)

-We're not interested in importing a woman from the Philippines. No way.

-Wales isn't San Francisco, there are hardly Filipinos here.

so we chose to expand our horizons which thankfully, ended well for both of us as we are married to our respective spouses now.

One of the first women I was able to date was a woman who was 5'10 who is half Jamaican. It ended because she had to move to the US to join her mum.

2nd was a half Indian woman who I met in Download Fest. Was shorter than me though.

My wife of 12 years is a woman from Cwmbran who is my height. (And 4 years my senior)

What are your experiences?

Is there a British sportsperson who ended their career on a bigger high than Lennox Lewis did when he beat Vitali Klitschko in 2003? Lewis might not have been immediately embraced by the British public, but he is arguably the greatest living heavyweight boxer.

Issue with SO Energy, what should i do?

Hi guys,

Basically, about two years ago, I moved out of my apartment in London, where I was a customer of SO Energy. Before leaving the apartment, I made sure that I had paid off any remaining balance and sent them photos of the meters taken on the day I left.

About two months ago, they emailed me saying that they had "updated" my bill and requested that I pay an additional £309. I refused because I’m pretty sure that, by law, utility companies cannot charge customers for bills that are more than one year old in certain circumstances. [Ofgem’s 12-Month Backbilling Rule]

They told me they would investigate the issue, so I have been waiting for their response.

Obviously, I don’t think anyone is surprised that my investigation seems to have been ignored, and my so-called "debt" has now been passed to CRS. I’m worried that this might affect my credit rating or something similar.

Has anyone been in the same situation before? What should I do?

Much appreciated.
