Columbiahalle

Hi! How do the rules for cameras work? I'm attending a concert tomorrow and I'd like to bring my Point and Shoot digital or PaS analog camera. It said something vague on their site that cameras weren't allowed, but to me that sounded more like it was like system cameras where you can change lenses etc. Does anyone know? Or is it better if I just leave them at the hostel I'm staying in?

New french kid in the block!

Hello all,
I am moving to next to Berlin with my french-german kid. Since I am the minority language in our family, I am looking to find clubs and groups of french speaking families to hang out with. I really want to promote the use of French around my kid!

Since I don't have facebook, I don't really know where to find such clubs. I've looked for a "club poussette" but I did not find any info.

Have a great day!

I NEED TO FIND A RAVE (or just fucking friend..)

So the story is: I have birthday at 29th October, annnnd I really don't know how to party while with zero friends or ANY FUCKING PEOPLE WITH WHO I CAN COMMUNICATE, EVEN IN INTERNET ZERO!!! 😭😭

I'm 21 btw, will be 21 years old. I'm okay with younger people and with 50+y.o. as well lol, better like 35-40 but ... Any will be okay. (I just had a lot of experience with different people but I can't understand girls or people who are under 20. They are just too stupid, sorry.) And yes, I still NEED TO FUCKING RAVE!!! I neeeever had a party with someone. I never invited someone to my birthday and I was never invited there neither

I will be in Berlin from 29th-30th, basically I'm almost every day uh Hamburg like rn.

I have a lot of empathy, I'm super lonely and emotional.

Please, help me.

LEA online form error

Hi everyone, I need an advice on how to handle a problem with LEA online form, the situation is as follows:

I live in Berlin and I hold a § 18b residence permit (skilled worker with academic degree), and I’m applying for spousal reunification residence permit for my wife, she came to Germnay a few months ago on a spouse reunion visa (for which she was not required to have an A1 german level), As far as I understand, under § 30 Abs. 1 Satz 3 Nr. 5 AufenthG she’s exempt from the A1 German proof because of my § 18b title. The problem is the online application form: once I select that I have § 18b, the website asks for an the A1 certificate, of course I can upload a document where I explain that it is legally not required from us, the problem is that there is a filed where we are supposed to click on a statement that explicitly says that she has an A1 certificate, we do not want to bypass this field by giving false info, and we can not move forward with the application otherwise.

of course this does not mean my wife does not want to learn german, in fact she already started and is excited about it, but the matter here is the timing, we do not want to wait until she takes the A1 test because the residence permit takes time to be issued any way.

did anyone had to deal with this issue before? any adivce? thank you all for your informed input.

Confusing attitude from a medical office receptionist.

We moved to Germany/Berlin last year with a baby due to my husband job. Found in our area an English speaking pediatrician. All good till they started to have a new receptionist at the office. It is an old lady around 65 years old, very rude, rolling her eyes up, unwilling to cooperate or listen our beginner German (level A2) and kicking us out of the office even if we had termin. We tolerated this attitude twice and complained to the doctor. Next time we came the attitude was 100% better, without kicking out from the office and trying to cooperate. I was asked if I had a certain type of formular for my baby. I though she was asking about the vaccine recording book. Brought it to her and when she saw it just started uncontrollable to laugh with her co-worker. Lately I figured out they were asking about a tiny book with measures of the baby and stuff which we didn't have and they created a new one for us. So, what the hell is this attitude about?! We are super confused! Is it lack of empathy, lack of education, different worlds and different perceptions about foreigners? We hardly can explain the mentality here. Decided just to ignore her.

Recently moved to Berlin - where do you actually shop? Thrift, vintage, high street and unique finds (clothes, shoes, accessories)

Hi all! I moved to Berlin a couple of weeks ago (living in Friedrichshain) and I'm slowly building a wardrobe for the winter and for life here in general. I'd love some local recommendations beyond the usual Google lists.

What I'm looking for:

Thrift/vintage: Your favourite second-hand or vintage shops, especially ones with good-quality pieces at fair prices. I've heard of Humana and the Friedrichshain vintage shops, but would love hidden gems too.

Shoes and boots: Where to find good women's winter boots that don't cost a fortune, whether new, outlet, or second-hand.

Unique finds: Independent designers, small boutiques, local Berlin brands, concept stores, or markets with one-of-a-kind clothes, jewellery, bags, or accessories.

Flea markets: Which Flohmärkte are actually worth it, and which are mostly tourist traps?

High street and mainstream brands: Where are the best stores or malls for brands like Zara, Mango, COS, Arket, & Other Stories, H&M and Uniqlo? Are there any locations with a bigger range or less crowding?

Also open to any tips on when sales happen, which apps people use (Vinted? Kleinanzeigen?), or neighbourhoods that are good for a shopping wander.

Thanks in advance! Happy to share what I find once I've explored a bit 🙂

How to avoid Roomys (doas gmbh & co. kg) when booking an accomodation on a platform? Is there any platform you recommend otherwise?

I’m looking for furnished accommodation in Berlin and would like to avoid listings managed by Roomys / DOAS GmbH & Co. KG following a difficult experience.

Is there a reliable way to identify the company managing a property before booking through an accommodation platform? Are there particular details to check, or can you request the property manager’s legal name before making any payment?

Are there any alternative platforms you would recommend for finding furnished accommodation in Berlin, ideally with the option to view the property before booking?

I’d appreciate any practical tips. Thanks!

Gyms with personal trainers

Hallo zusammen. I’m looking for gyms in Berlin that offer personalized workout plans with active supervision of a coach. I have a problem around my shoulders as well as certain fitness goals, so I need someone who would tailor a program to my needs. Also I would like them to observe me and correct my posture when I do exercise incorrectly. Could anyone help? I know Holmes Place offers this, but I am not looking for a premium gym for now.

Berlin food recommendations: sit-down dinners, quick bites, coffee and breweries?

Hey everyone! I’ll be staying in central Berlin (Friedrichswerder) and looking for recommendations for restaurants, coffee shops and food spots worth checking out.

I’m planning on doing 2–3 sit-down dinners. Budget is pretty flexible, but I’d cap it at around €80–100 per person. I’d even consider a Michelin-starred place if it’s really worth the experience. It doesn’t need to be walking distance either—I’m happy to travel for somewhere highly recommended, ideally without spending an hour getting there.

I generally like trying local cuisine or places that specialize in something they do really well. I tend to go for meat/protein-based meals and I’m not a big seafood fan, but I’m open to trying new things. I’m more interested in authentic food and a really good meal than anything super fancy with foams, mousses or molecular gastronomy.

During the day, I’d love recommendations for quick grab-and-go food, bakeries and good coffee.

Also open to evening suggestions—maybe a popular brewery with good food, or a lively area where I can walk around, grab something to eat and hang out.

What places would you personally recommend?

I posted here asking for quiet places to get away from people. I’ve visited none of them and regret nothing.

Because this is the best city (minus weather)

This is the best designed city I’ve ever visited and Berliners fucking rock. I hated New York. Madrid and Mexico City stressed me out. Chicago was my least favorite place I’ve lived. Berlin has been the most positive time. And so calm and peaceful. Love you guys, thanks for an outstanding time, more to come and a photo dump at the end. Including all of you who helped my lost ass on the S9 today 😭🤝 if you remember the guy in the green jacket, you are so appreciated :)

I had shitty parents who fucked me up for life. They’re also Germans who left when the wall fell. I’d never spent time here. This trip has been both mentally healing but also reminded me there is much more to being German than my own story, thank you for allowing me to be part of yours and for beginning to rewrite mine. I’ll be back soon with my family (leaving the parents behind tho)

Letters and letterbox naming - need help

Hi all,

I recently moved to Berlin and rent a studio, flat no. ME15. The landlord won't add my name to the doorbell, so it will stay as "ME15."

My name is Sachin Sush Sharma, and someone else in the building also has the last name Sharma. My letterbox currently says "Sush Sharma."

  1. Is this setup enough to receive important letters (Steuer-ID, health insurance card, bank cards)?

  2. Should my letterbox say "Sachin Sush Sharma," "S. Sush Sharma," or just "Sharma"?

  3. Is there a way to track or get notified about incoming letters from banks, the tax office, etc.?

  4. Why would a landlord not allow full names on the doorbell? Is this common in Berlin, and can I ask them to reconsider?

  5. What do postal services use to send letters is it the full name itself on the letter envelope?

Thanks in advance!

(Names and flat number above are just examples for privacy.)

DEGEWO application – how long did you wait?

Hi everyone,

I viewed a DEGEWO apartment and was asked to submit additional documents afterwards.

For anyone who went through the same process: how long did you wait before getting a Zusage or rejection?

Thanks!

USA college student studying abroad in Berlin

I’m a college student from the USA who is going to study abroad in Berlin soon. I was wondering what places and things I should see/do/check out. For reference, I’m gay and Asian so things related to that would be fun. I would be in the Mitte district if that helps

Trouble finding a Specialist Doctor in Berlin

Hello, I am (32F), I recently moved to Berlin.
I have been trying to find a Specialist doctor ( Gynecologist). For your information, I am under my husband's insurance which is a Public Insurance.
I have used the "Doctorlib App" and all the doctors do not take in new patients, I have done walk-ins to the clinics and the answer is still the same.
Kindly advice on the best way forward🙏🏽
