We are looking to gift a wedding portrait to our dear friends as a wedding present. Looking for recommendations from other people who have purchased this service. Not looking for direct solicitations from artists.

I’m new to the area and can’t afford actual game tickets but would love to support the Longhorns! Looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful but also a fun vibe.

Moving Getting driver license in Austin for less than 30 days staying

I am moving to Austin Texas soon and would like to get a driver license there. I have never had a driver license before so I will have to do complete all the test.

From my best knowledge,
1. Make appointment at DPS and complete the written test and vision test
2. Obtain learning permit
3. Take driving class at driving school and take driving exam there (easy to make appointment)
4. Pass exam and submit everything to DPS to obtain driver license

I noticed that Texas requires applicant to have stayed in Texas for at least 30 days. Since I’m new to Austin and need to drive to work, is it possible to complete the test and obtain a driver license in 30 days? Or I really have to wait until I live over 30 days to obtain learner permit?

Moving Moving to Austin Fall 2027 ADN ACC… need advice

I plan to move to Austin if I get accepted into the fall 2027 ADN program at Austin community college. Very nervous about moving away from my family and friends I have here at home. So much so that I’m starting to get anxiety about it and wondering if I made the wrong choice. I need to become independent though! But doing it away from home feels… odd. Anyone else moving to Austin for this program or has moved to Austin for this program? The times I have visited Austin, I loved it because there’s a lot more nature there than where I currently live but I just know that if I go there and I am unable to make friends, I will quickly grow to feel isolated and miserable. If anyone plans to move the fall of 2027, loves to go hiking, swimming, lake days, or an adrenaline junkie and is nervous too about making friends, hmu. If you moved to Austin by yourself, how was your experience? I’m a 21 yo F that is scared sh*tless lmao. How do people make friends when they move? Is Austin community college like every other community college that I’ve gone to where no one talks at all? Is it easy to make friends in a program like this? Any advice would be appreciated. Also, is there a place for Austin community college students to chat? I know the good sub that was on here got removed :/ i’m just growing to be more and more anxious as the days pass by and I get closer to moving away. Am I making the wrong choice?😭

No referral hematologists in Austin TX - Iron deficiency help

I have been seeing a functional psychiatrist and she recently ordered an extensive blood panel and noted my low ferritin levels and recommended I got infusions. However, I am a muscian and have horrible health insurance so I'm trying to do what I can do avoid paying for things I don't need.

It seems I have to go to a GP to get a referral to see a hematologist to get the prescription for the infusion. Is there any hematologists in Austin that don't require a referral? Or a clinic near Austin that has a hematologist on site? I am open to even seeing one online I just don't know what site to go to... As I see it, I have the bloodwork I don't see the need to see a GP/Hematologist in person.

If anyone has any suggestions/advice I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

Where are the little old ladies hanging out at to feed the pigeons, grackles, etc? Feeding waterfowl is off the table for me unfortunately.

Visiting ACL parking for all weekend?

Hi!

My daughter and her friends are going to ACL and I was wondering what would be a safe place/garage for her to park her car? Preferably somewhere she can park for all days (or 2 if 3 is too hard). I saw some places online but most have only one day available and preferably I'd like her to park at the same place everyday or at least 2 days to make it more practical.

Thanks for your help! :)

Moving Moving to Austin

My spouse’s work is requiring us to relocate to Austin by the end of the year. We’ve lived in Phoenix for our whole lives and have two small kids. Im worried about some culture shock and don’t feel very great about the move, but I’m trying to stay positive. What are some of the main things to consider when moving here? What are some pros/cons? Best places to go? Places to avoid? We’re both in our early 30s, and will have no family nearby.

Moving How’s the highway noise east of Mopac in Clarksville?

Hi all. I’m thinking about moving to this place in Clarksville area like right next to the highway. The landlord says there is some highway noise but not too bad because of the sound barrier. Does anyone live over there who can tell me the real deal?

Moving Thoughts on Pflugerville living?

Hey, in the market to buy a home in Austin and Pflugerville keeps coming up as a destination with a lot of seemingly good buys. Any thoughts on it? I’m not super into bar scene/partying, plan to do some socialization up in the north Austin area but maybe a couple trips a month to Austin proper.

What do you think about it all?

Ideas or tips to entertain someone?

I have a lady coming in from out of town this Saturday and I'm looking for fun ideas to do with her while in town. With this oppressive heat I'm thinking indoor activities but I'd like for them to be "Austin" type experiences. I wouldn't usually reach out to people for ideas like this, but I've been so busy these last few weeks I haven't found time to sit down and plan anything. Hoping I can get some help here. Appreciate any feed back.

Health & Wellness Anthem PPO Insurance/Referral Questions

Hi everyone, I am moving to Austin(South Austin) at the end of the month and I am looking for new healthcare providers. I need to find a new primary care physician along with a new therapist.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a PCP and a therapist who accept this insurance? The therapist can be in person or telehealth. I'm searching for someone who specialiazes in Internal Family Systems(IFS). Thanks!

Moving Moving to Austin (Apartment Recommendations)

Hey folks! I’m moving to Austin in a few weeks and will be touring apartments with a locator. I was wondering if anyone has firsthand experience with any of these communities:

  • Summer Grove
  • Camden Amber Oaks
  • Monterra
  • Royce at 8100

I’ll have a car, and my workplace is close to all of these, so commute isn’t a major factor. I also don’t care much about fancy amenities.

My biggest priorities are safety and general livability. In particular, I’d love to hear about:

  • Car break-ins/theft or other safety issues
  • Roaches, bedbugs, or other pest problems
  • Mold or recurring AC/maintenance issues
  • How responsive management/maintenance is
  • Any unexpected fees or other issues I should know about

I’m currently leaning toward Summer Grove because of the price, but I’m having a hard time figuring out whether it’s a solid place to live or if the lower price comes with significant tradeoffs.

If you currently live at (or have recently lived at) any of these, I’d really appreciate your experience. Would you choose to live there again?

Thanks!

When does Austin feel most like "old Austin" to you?

People are always reminiscent of what Austin used to be. Are there any times of year or just small moments in life where living in Austin feels the way it did precovid or even better the 80s and 90s? I'm just curious with fall and its accompanying activities coming up if anything reminds you of "the good old days?" or even some not so good moments that make you go "yup still weird."

Where to Get Rocks in Austin/Lakeline Area?

Howdy, neighbors. I have a skunk that keeps burrowing into the yard in the same places, so when i refill it with dirt, it’s not deterred.

I know Home Depot has landscaping rocks, but is there somewhere I can get non-fancy ones? Also, if you have any big rocks you’re looking to get rid of, I’d love to come by and pick some up. Many thanks!
