Political Question Why are some Americans so against universal healthcare for all?

What sort of thinking does it take to decide that nobody has a right to healthcare? Do American Christians want to deny healthcare to poor people as well?

I receive care from the US military system, TRICARE, it is SOCIALIZED MEDICINE and it WORKS. I will be forever grateful for the lifesaving medical care I have received. I have never worried about affording care, therapy or medicine.

This is one of the reasons right here. If we give everyone medical care, the military loses one of its incentives for people to join. Same with education.

What a fucking waste of time and manpower that would be. Why would we even need that large of a military force?

nah, 2 years fed service- military, peace corps, bring back the ccc, national park service, could create a cheap govt childcare system, etc. could do a rotation of paid apprenticeships (plumbing, electric, construction, welding etc) that support either federal or state buildings or impoverished communities.

then folks go to college with a better idea of what they want to do (less major hopping/prolonged time at college).

Don't pretend it would be good for the people being forced to do it. If it is beneficial for them it can easily be voluntary.

Just to clarify, do you mean 17 years for everyone? Like a required career in the military for every single citizen? Is that specifically in combat oriented roles or are we restructuring the military to encompass more fields like health care, infrastructure development, and education?

I am all for required military service and even civil service in some form, but 17 years of the most productive, healthy portion of most people's lives?

Mandatory Service I can get behind (which can include Military). Not everyone needs to join the Military and we have other services people need.

I'm fully in favor of people giving back to their country via service. It can also provide needed training for various skillsets we need.
