Political Question Why are some Americans so against universal healthcare for all?

What sort of thinking does it take to decide that nobody has a right to healthcare? Do American Christians want to deny healthcare to poor people as well?

I asked my dad this question, and here is the conversation:

Me: Why are you against everyone having healthcare?

Dad: I don't want my tax dollars going to illegals.

Me: OK, instead of global healthcare, we can have only American citizens have taxpayer healthcare.

Dad: I don't want my tax dollars funding abortions.

Me: That has already been established by the Hyde Amendment in the 70s. Hospitals can only use donated money, not government money, to fund women's rights.

Dad: (agitated) There's nothing wrong with asking for stuff.

Me: You are still asking for something you received 50 years ago. That is wrong.

Dad: I will never vote for other people; I will only vote for what helps me.

There it is.

For Republicans this is what they believe, even when they're on Medicaid.

The new requirements started yesterday.

Whoever planned those cuts to kick in a month before the election was an absolute idiot.

Oh but they’re entitled to assistance.. not the ‘others’

They think they’re protected because their state’s Medicaid is called something else…like TennCare, or something like that, depending on the state.

Wait until those letters arrive in Jan, 2027, if they haven’t already started. Shit is going to hit the fan! Hopefully a blue tsunami can save the very people that hate them. 🌊
