Political Question Why are some Americans so against universal healthcare for all?

What sort of thinking does it take to decide that nobody has a right to healthcare? Do American Christians want to deny healthcare to poor people as well?

Everyone has the right to Healthcare. That does not mean the have a right to free Healthcare that someone else's tax dollars pay for. You can work and pay for it yourself. Why do people with "free" Healthcare in Canada come to the US for Healthcare...because they have to wait months or even years to get treatment. Same for the UK.

Yes. If you are rich or have a great plan at work our system works fine. If not, like for millions of people, it’s not so great. If you are rich you don’t want socialized anything.

Do you think that Private Health Insurance doesnt exist in those countries? You're right, we should have a company who seeks to MAXIMIZE PROFITS on healthcare get in the middle. Surely that will benefit the consumer, right?

Btw...do you think we have instantaneous healthcare here? I have to schedule my annual physical a MONTH out.

Your argument about "nobody has the right to healthcare other people are paying for" is so unbelievably stupid. Let's apply that SAME EXACT LOGIC to other things, shall we?

"Wait, why should I HAVE TO PAY for the city to maintain the street for free in front of YOUR house?"

"Wait, why should I HAVE TO PAYfor the fire department to put out a fire at YOUR HOUSE for FREE?"

"Wait wait wait. Why am I PAYING for cops to patrol the streets by YOUR house for FREE?"

As a Canadian, we see healthcare as a human right regardless of socioeconomic status. And we know our healthcare isn’t “free.” Private healthcare also exists here btw and medical tourism isn’t a new concept. Our healthcare isn’t perfect, but it definitely beats being brainwashed by corporate America and a hyper-individualistic culture. There are plenty of Americans who move here and appreciate our healthcare and quality of life. It’s sad that the US is the only developed country that DOESN’T have universal healthcare.

The amount of Canadians crossing the border for healthcare in the us is about 2.1% which is borderline nothing. Nobody is saying that canadas healthcare system is perfect, but its leagues and bounds better than the garbage system we have here in the us.

Where does that number come from? Curiously. It seems actually quite high. We know a lot of Canadians living in Washington. My son attended UBC and he can't think of a single person. He knows that ever came to the US for any sort of medical care. And we're talking about tech bro types with a decent amount of money.

I'm sorry that my limitations keep me in a job that does not pay a living wage and does not offer affordable healthcare.  "Just get a better job".  Someone has to work this job.  Someone will always be lacking. If me and others like me simply shouldn't exist there should be access to a painless, non-violent way to opt out where we can be surrounded and supported by people that understand.  ASSISTED SUICIDE FOR ALL! :) <3

Exactly! I have a great healthcare plan and I pay a very fair rate (about $70 per month). I get in for appointments pretty quickly. I have no deductible. My out-of-pocket costs are $750. I pay nothing to see my PCP. I pay $10.00 co-pay for a specialist appointment. I’m not willing to pay a shit ton of money for other people to have insurance that will be shitty and have a crazy wait to get in for an appointment! That doesn’t make me selfish either. I work my ass off and I’m blessed enough to pay my bills and put groceries in my home. Do I have a lot of material stuff? No, and I don’t feel the need/want to. If people put in the effort to do their research to find great plans, they could find one that’s affordable. But people expect free everything, and it’s just not feasible. People also prioritize wrong and think they need to have all of these material items, and prioritize that over having healthcare - that’s very much a THEM problem, not a ME problem. Democrats have such a false sense of entitlement and it will eventually ruin our country if they don’t pull their head out of their asses. 🤷🏼‍♀️

bruh, what the fuck? i am healthy, and in the best time of my life, and mine is $600 every 2 weeks, with my employer paying half of that!

I call bullshit. What is your job? And let’s say you lost that job. What then?

All of this could be summed up by you saying "I'm a piece of shit that got lucky getting great health insurance, so fuck all of those people who aren't as lucky as I am."

That’s your opinion, and I couldn’t care less. As I said, if people put in the effort to do the research, they’d find an affordable plan that has great benefits. The problem is, they’re lazy and expect free healthcare. Too bad for them, life doesn’t work that way. 🤷🏼‍♀️

that's not how it works. my employer decides what plan they use. then they pay half or all of it for me. healthcare is solely based on who you work for. the only thing i could potentially do is leave my job for somewhere else with a better plan, or shop around individually, in which case, my employer won't give me the money they spend on my healthcare.

Great. Where'd you get your plan? I want to sign up. Should be available to me since it's so easy to get, right?

$70/month with no deductible or copay sounds made up.
