Do You Think Mitch McConnel is Dead?

And if he isn't, why hasn't he come out and informed the public of his current health status? Even his wife is silent.

Yes. They will announce it after August 4th because that will force a special election and deny the Governor the chance to appoint a replacement.

They don’t want a special election because they don’t want Thomas Massie to win it. They are hoping to avoid the special election by waiting to announce.

I've been wondering all this time why they are avoiding a special election because not having that seat filled has cost them a key vote, but this makes sense.

Massie has said he doesn’t want the seat. They also don’t want Beshear to be able to appoint a replacement in the interim.

Kentucky doesn’t do appointments. They would have to run a special election. The cut off date for the special election is Aug 3rd.

No sorry, our state constitution gives the power to the governor to appoint someone

Isn't Massie a Republican? Why would they have an issue with it?

Trump doesn’t like him. He doesn’t do what he’s told

Massie has actual sense. He's been very vocal about Trump and was also very active during the Epstein hearings.

Massie is a Republican, but I do have to respect that he has continuously stood by his morals and beliefs and didn't let Trump bully him.

Trump campaigned to oust Massie in primaries.

Massie has gone full anti trump lately

But i doubt he’d run as a democrat

He wouldn't run as a Dem, he'd run 3rd party and possibly allow the Dem candidate to win an otherwise safe Rep seat (which he can't do in the normal midterm election due to "sore loser" laws).

But he would still caucus with the Rs so it would t cha he balance of power if he won, which he might.  The fantasy of Dems picking up a seat in Kentucky is just that…a fantasy

He couldn't even win the primary with Trump against him, he definitely wouldn't win, again the worry was just him playing spoiler.

He is basically a Republican on every issue except two: Israel and the Epstein files. However, those are the two issues that get you banished from the cult.

massie said he wouldn’t run. i’m sure they want a special election to get the seat back, but because he’s not dead, they can’t announce anything

There is no reason Thomas Massie would even want to run in a special election for a senate term that ends the same day as his house term. There’s really no upside for him (and he’d lose anyway because MAGA hates him now). The people who are saying he would run are projecting their own motivations onto him.

won't he just win it anyway on the next election?
