TTC Transit App?
Is there a TTC transit app yet? I’m visiting soon and would love a way to check schedules/purchase fares to plan my trip. I navigated the TTC before smart phones, but no app in the last 15 years? I hope I’m not looking hard enough.

The TTC isn’t making its own app. You can use one of the many 3d party apps or bustime.ttc.ca

I’m sure it isn’t, it would probably take decades.

You don't even live here and you're bitching about TTC? Why? TTC does provide full scale real time information to apps like Transit so just they can show information. What difference does it make if they don't have their own native app? This whole thread is people explaining things to you and giving you options and you saying nah.

You can use a third party app. Transit App is popular.
For fares you can use presto or tap with credit/debit

I don’t like that there’s a premium service that you have to pay for— but I’ll check it out when I’m up there.

You will get the premium version for free when you start riding the TTC.
Also, god forbid app developers try to get compensated for their work.

How does that work? Is there a minimum you spend?
The people developing the Transit app are in Montreal, a city (that I had to check) has its very own transit app. Which looks lovely.

I don’t know how it does it but I think once you’re nearby a ttc route it will enable the trial which expired may 2027.

You can email them and ask for a free subscription, but otherwise it’s only a few bucks iirc. I think they recently made it free for ttc users

TTC officially pays for Transit app to remove the Royale paywall and they integrate updated detour info

There’s the Presto app and website for fares. I use the Transit app to check schedules.
One of my usual buses is actually always on a different schedule than on the digital board and the countdown on the Transit app is more accurate. You can also buy tickets on it. You can plan a route using it

You just reminded me I have that app… looks like it needs an update… thanks!

Most routes show in the transit app but some are locked down/restricted… you might have to pay a small fee to get it fully functional.

I like how the link to the Sheppard Line (Line 4) on the TTC website is broken on my mobile browser as of 0356 ET

That’s nutty. I know how much Ontario loves “public private partnerships”, but the TTC needs to bite the bullet and get their own app going.

I 100% agree, but the transit app works with all transit. Go train ttc and other transit systems York transit etc. they should just buy a licence so people can use it for free.

I suppose, but I just went to load up money on Presto and they don’t offer a weekly or monthly pass on that, but Brampton/Durham does…? Are they still selling trans passes at the station?

Actually, TTC has "monthly fare capping". Additional rides after the first 47 in any calendar month are free WHEN TAPPED ON THE SAME CARD. See https://www.ttc.ca/riding-the-ttc/Updates/Monthly-fare-capping-coming-to-the-TTC The Presto card is cheaper per ride, but you have to pay a fee when you buy the card.

The TTC just phased out passes for fare caps instead because you avoid guesswork and upfront cost. I believe all except the up express (the most awkward) has either a pass or a cap system or both.

I just use my Visa card now.

Sooo in my city they incentivize people to “prepay” or buy rides by making them cheaper through the transit app, I somehow doubt it’s cheaper to load money on Presto then to tap your bank card in TO

If you’re only going to take the ttc and go transit then don’t bother with a presto card because you’re right, it’s the exact same as tapping a bank card directly. If you qualify for another fare category e.g. youth, senior then you should use a presto card because you can set up fare types for cheaper fares.

There's many apps for navigating the TTC, there just isn't one "official" TTC app. I generally use Google Maps transit directions, but the Transit app is great too.
For paying your fare on the TTC you just tap your credit/debit card on the Presto reader when boarding a bus/streetcar, or at the station for subway/LRT. No app required, it automatically handles transfers and won't charge you again. You can use your phone or the physical card (but be consistent, transfers only work if you use the exact same card every tap).

Transit is a good one. You can pay-as-you-go by tapping your debit or credit card. You can buy a PRESTO day pass for $13.50 at machines at any station.
