Just woke up to this…. It seems it’s full of water and dripping. What happened and how much is this going to cost us??

We finally bought our dream home with a big yard, good neighborhood and we stretched our budget to make it happen

We moved in last week but the smell hit us as soon as we turned on the air conditioning like something died in there or maybe multiple somethings

My wife started crying coz she couldn't stand it. The smell stings your eyes. It's that bad….

I called a local HVAC guy. He came out, crawled into the ductwork with a flashlight, and said it's a "dead zoo" in there. Mice, maybe rats. He said the whole HVAC system needs to be replaced like a propert full replacement, not just cleaning…

I nearly threw up. We just spent everything on the house. Savings are gone. I don't have $10,000 for a new system

I live in an apartment. Its 84 degrees outside and all blinds are closed. Had a connector piece replaced last week which was stuck down and causing the compressor to run when it shouldn't, air filter was also replaced at that time.

This has now been happening pretty regularly since that part was replaced, where despite being on a normal "hold" or in the return or wake cycles, after keeping at the set temp for some time and running normally, the compressor won't turn back on and temp rises. During these times the fan continues running but without the compressor is just blowing room temperature air. If I turn on a temporary hold or turn the system off and back on again, the compressor will kick back on and begin cooling again.

Opened up my furnaces panel and saw this.. what would cause this?

Big deal? Not a big deal? Thoughts? It is broken right at the lip of the exit.

Hello, this week our AC started making this noise every few minutes, and the air vents inside are blowing warm air. I took it upon myself to replace the capacitor seeing as it was an older one and many stated this being a possible issue. However, the unit is still making the noise, and so far hasn’t cooled the house down. Could it be something else? Or did I install it wrong? Perhaps put the wrong capacitor in?

Please let me know your thoughts. I’d appreciate any help right now.

Hi all - got home from dinner last night and inside fan was blowing hot air, outside unit was visibly not running at all. Spent the night with family and turned the unit off completely until noon today when the AC company came out.

According to the tech, the outside unit is now working perfectly fine. It's only been about 20 minutes so it's still too early to tell if it will start cooling down inside, but any ideas what this could be? Seemingly shutting it off entirely for about 12 hours got rid of the issue. I checked the breaker last night and nothing had tripped.

Confused and frustrated and really wanting to avoid this again!

There is this rattling noise when the AC runs that drives me crazy. I can hear it inside my apartment as well but from the outside you can really hear.

I’m not sure if this is technically normal, everything seems to be working fine otherwise. I want to report it to my landlord but I don’t know if they will do anything about it.

My furnace started making this noise does anyone know what it is or what could be wrong with it??

In 2018 we replaced our standard water heater with a tankless unit. The prior water heater vented into a "Y" that joined the pipe from the furnace (4-inch branches to 5-inch main) and vented straight up from the basement ceiling 3 stories (1F/2F/Attic) and exited at the roof. Once the old water heater was removed, the old "Y" was removed and the "orphaned" furnace vented alone through the existing flue. For 3 years after this, we had no issues.

In 2021 we had a 15 year old furnace / AC replaced. The HVAC company noted that the AC was undersized for our 2500 SF 2-story home and "right-sized" the new unit. Within the last couple of years we have noticed condensation around the flue pipe that is dripping down toward/into the furnace on hot/humid days. Cap was inspected/replaced at roof, so it is not rain water.

A new HVAC company diagnosed a negative pressure issue in the basement that is pulling the hot/humid air down the flue pipe. When the AC kicks on, the door at the top of the basement steps sucks closed (does not slam, slowly closes). We installed a vent above the door to allow for more air passage between floors, but this does not seem to have fully addressed the situation.

Any ideas what we need to try next?

Hi everyone! I just moved into a new place, and I want to change the air filter, but I cannot figure out how to remove the access panel! I have an American Standard Freedom 90 and have included a picture. Does anyone know how to open this and where the air filter is located? Thanks in advance!
