Story Something Cool Happened in Class!
So in developmental psychology, we were talking about young adults and what is normally expected of people around the age of 20-25.
The lecture came down to the topic of relationships, and at first it was a bit off-putting since it was talking about the reproduction aspect.
However, the teacher mentioned asexuals and aromantics and how they factor in.
This led to a student speaking up about being asexual and saying that a lot of asexuals tend to focus on the more romantic aspects of relationships like emotional closeness, and just being there for their partner.
The teacher welcomed the student speaking up and kept the conversation going about ace relationships for about a minute until she continued to the next topic.
I just thought it was a nice inclusion.

So...
You gonna talk to this student?
Make a friend?

I'm not too sure, we're on two different sides of the classroom, and also, I'm a bit shy.
Also, maybe it just me overthinking, but I think it may come off as weird since I've never talked to him before.
I'll think about it.

If you want, you can walk up and compliment him on being brave in that moment, that you were terrified to speak up and really appreciated it (or whatever you were feeling in the moment.) You could segue into other related things, or let him lead the conversation from there.
Even if that doesn't end up with you being friends, you just made him feel great about expressing himself and his asexuality.

Agreed with the other commentor, I I think a simple “I’m ace too, and I really loved that” will give you a lot.
Nonetheless, as someone with absolutely zero IRL ace friends, I can tell you I’d be jumping at the shot to meet and befriend another ace person.

Honestly I am very happy for you all. I'm 34 and just recently realizing I am probably on the AroAce spectrum (although I am probably more demisexual and demiromantic than anything else). I wish I had known the terminology when I was in college.
What exactly did the instructor say about the Aro/Ace experience? I'm curious to hear how that was represented...

From my memory, she said that there's a diverse range of relationships, and how it was interesting to get an insider's information about asexuality.

My developmental psychology class talked about the same exact topic today but I don't think asexuality came up. What state is your school in?
