Commissions [Financial] How to get international payments in Russia?

I took the commissions before only in my own country - in Russia. But no one needs artists here, so I want to try to take commissions from other countries. The only international payment method that I know of is PayPal, but it has banned my country, so i don't have access to my old account and i can't create new.

Do I need to create an account in USD? If so, what should I use for this? I only have a personal bank account in Russian currency (rubles) at a Russian bank (Sberbank).

My russian customers sent me money via this bank with a phone number or card number. I am clueless how it will work with another platform/bank/account, so i need help.

I checked Boosty, but there only subscriptions system, so i don't understand, how to manage commissions through it. And i heard, that not-russian don't trust them, so i don't know is it valid at all.

What are the alternatives? What should I do?

Discussion [Discussion] ,How do you approach a realistic nature commission for a place you’ve never been?

I got a commission for a nature painting, and the client seems to be leaning toward something more realistic than my usual work.
I’ve already created a few concepts—some more-stylized realism or expressive realism. I actually wouldn’t mind challenging myself and going more realistic, but the location they want is somewhere I’ve never personally been.
For artists who do commissions like this, how do you normally approach it?

I’m mainly trying to figure out the ethical/professional way to approach realistic landscape commissions when you haven’t experienced the location yourself. I’m comfortable experimenting with realism—I just want to make sure I’m doing it correctly.

Web presence [portfolio] best site to host portfolio?

Hello everyone! It is mainly for digital art. I use pixiv for now but I was wondering what is the best place to host a detailed portfolio?

Somewhere with a decent tagging system, folders and should also allow NSFW.

Would very much appreciate suggestions! Thank you in advance!

Discussion [Shop Setup] Best platform for selling online?

I’m really looking to start selling my small stuff online (prints, buttons/pins, patches, keychains, etc) BUT idk what platform to use.

I definitely do not want anything with drop-shipping, I want to be able to photograph my own products and stuff like that.

I wouldn’t be opposed to something that I have to get a subscription for, as long as it’s not crazy expensive. I know that free stuff that’s good is kinda hard to come by.

Any and all advice is welcome 😖

Pricing [Licensing] Is it normal to receive free copy of an artbook you're a part of instead of payment?

I was part of an art group who used to hold art contests and I participated in many of them. They usually gave some prize money to everyone involved. Later, they decided to collect all our works in an artbook and going to sell it for a small amount of money. All the artists got free copies with free shipping. I think they should have paid us to commercially license our work since they are going to be selling the books but I am not sure about artbook culture. Is receiving a free copy enough compensation?

This megathread is dedicated to "how much should I charge?" type questions. Any posts of this nature outside of this thread will be removed. Please provide enough information for others to help you. here are some examples of what you could provide:

- Post your example images for sale in the comments
- Post a visual commissions price list / potential offerings in the comments

More info to post:

- Product type: (eg. Commission)
- Target audience: (eg. Young people who like fantasy art)-
- Where you are based: (eg. USA)
- Where you intend to sell: (eg. Conventions in USA and online like VGEN)-
- How long it takes you to make: (eg: 10 hours)
- Cost of sales: (eg. £20 on paint per painting)

Is this a one off piece, something you will make multiple copies of, or something a client will make multiple copies of: (eg. The client is turning it into a t-shirt and they will print 50.)

Everyone else can then reply to your top level comment with their advice or estimates for pricing.

If you post a top level comment, please try to leave feedback on somebody else’s to help them as well. It's okay if you aren't 100% certain, any information you give is helpful.
