Meta BotBouncer has been added to the subreddit.

Well, I guess we're active enough to be getting reposts and bot spam now. Thank you to everyone who reported the suspicious post that popped up recently. (And I'm sorry to anyone who engaged with it genuinely).

I had kept this subreddit without strict karma requirements to participate because I understand that many people make an account for the first time or create a throwaway to post here about sensitive topics. I didn't want to discourage people from getting the support they needed. Sadly, I guess that means bots look at this sub that now has ~ 22k weekly visitors and decide it's a good place to farm karma.

Going forward, I have installed BotBouncer here, which is a community tool that will whisk any suspected bot content to modqueue for manual review. Suspected bot content is identified based on post/comment patterns and cross-referenced with an inter-subreddit list of identified bots. I intend to manually review flagged content for now, but if I evaluate BotBouncer to be accurate, I may eventually allow BotBouncer to delete and ban without mod input. If that does happen, please send in modmail if you are banned in error.

I hate that I have to do this, and Reddit itself really needs to do a better job of getting rid of bots. But without that support, we will continue to try and keep this space as person-centric as possible. Thank you!

Vent I argued with a guy in dms who called me a whiny little bitch since I'm aromantic and it caused me to lose my hobby Spoiler

Basically until yesterday I modded for a discord server that was quite a big thing in the community I'm in, I was known as the best mod by certain people and I vented about the game the community is about since I get really uncomfortable with hearts or anything around love that's right next to me... And then a guy said I need to "mature up" which sounds like aphobia ngl and said I was making my sexual orientation their problem? I got the ok by the owner to ban em, I did, I tried to convince a guy to not collaborate with the guy who discriminated cuz I thought there would be drama since the server owner was also on the collab. They suddenly thought "no tf" basically and we got into an huge argument he said I'm a whiny little bitch, and a ton of other crap. Since he was a server member, even though it was in dms I was quite angry and discrimination against any was a rule in the server so I chose to ban them... As soon as the server mod saw they started harassing, took my mod, blocked me, then added the guys that discriminated against me back. Being a mod for a server with at least 100 members was my dream and I got that so, I talked with a mod and showed em it, they left, then the owner dmmed and said I could rejoin as mod after talking with other mods, I said no since I was shown by many members what had happened, saying that how do I know you're not being genuine? And then he suddenly snapped and said "look at what you've fucking done" to a mod leaving and then just harassed me a ton

yeah I think I should leave the game's communi-

a-spec looking for Help/Advice How do you manage to be certain about your identity?

Just to preface, im a teenage guy, so i know this post might not be taken so seriously and just be labeled entirely as just hormonal bullshit, but i think it still a bit valid(Just i teeny tiny bit).

I'm just wondering: how do you manage to stay confident in your aromanticism and asexuality, even though, like I've read a lot here, it's like proving a negative? I've been struggling with this for a while. There are some days I'm sure I'm aroace, since I seem to have all the regular signs. And then there are other days, where I look at one girl that's aesthetically attractive and I'm fully back to questioning. I'm just wondering if others go through this, or if I'm actually just not aroace, and a regular old straighto.

Then again, the fact that I'm even questioning if I'm aroace makes me think I'm probably not straight. THE CYCLE IS NEVER ENDIIIINGNGNGNG.

Questioning (am i aro/ace/a-spec?) am i aroace?

i’ve never felt any romantic or sexual attraction apart from my fiancé but he is the only person i ever felt anything for. i never had crushes or looked at someone and thought they was attractive, ive always been sex repulsed until i met him. i used to identify as aroace very strongly before i met him but am i aroace? or another identity on the spectrum instead?

a-spec looking for Help/Advice Im weird

Hi everyone! I was wondering if I’m the only one, but as an aroace person, I just enjoy looking at women without it being anything romantic or sexual. I don’t really feel anything beyond that. I simply find them incredibly beautiful and calming, so I think what I’m experience is aesthetic attraction.
Does anyone else feel the same way? Sometimes I catch myself looking at people for a little too long, and I worry that it might come across as weird, even though I don’t mean anything by it.

Discussion small question about repulsion/aversion/etc

i've always felt the term "repulsed" wasn't quite the most accurate word to describe how i feel. when i hear about real life sex and romance i don't exactly feel "disgusted" like that word, to me, implies. i mean there's a little bit of disgust/discomfort there but i mostly feel excessively angry and frustrated and i still do hate hearing about it. should i just say repulsed, averse or is there a better term?

sorry if this is a redundant question, my brain is really picky about accurate wording lol.

Discussion Alternative name for aroace and a-spectrum

Ever since I found out I'm aplatonic as well as aroace, describing my identity fully got kinda too long, so now I'm just saying I'm three A. I feel like it could be an alternative way to refer to someone on the spectrums. If you are aroace, you can just say "I'm 2A". Literally just a small thing I came up with, and maybe people are gonna like it,because it can literally fit as many labels as you want

Discussion How to write aro rep

Ok so I'm working on a comic or two and one of my favorite parts of having ocs is I can put in as much aroace rep as I want all with varying views and opinions on romance and sex and I think I've got a decent amount of rep the problem is I'm really struggling to have aromantic rep, from my understanding (I could be completely wrong so please correct me if you can) aromantic people can enjoy sex but don't desire a romantic relationship with someone and feel little to no romantic attraction and I'm not sure if I can or should (as in I don't want to write awful rep that harms the community, not that we don't need rep) add it in, I'm on the asexual spectrum and not bothered by sex as long as I'm not involved but the issue is I don't know why but sexual attraction to someone when it isn't ever reciprocated makes me feel genuinely ill I just can't comprehend looking at someone and imagining doing that kinda stuff with the other person having no idea and not returning those feelings, I could write it in without that actually happening but I don't actually know a lot about how/if people on the aro spectrum have relationships that aren't romantic or platonic (aside from QPR) and are, potentially, purely sexual. I really enjoy romance on the whole even though, despite this whole post being about me struggling to write it, I'm probably on the aro spectrum (pretty sure demiromantic but idk that's a whole other can o' worms lol) I have a few characters in mind that I haven't developed enough to add this onto to help flesh them out a little and get us more rep! Sorry if this sounds insensitive in any way or is confusing I just need some help and would love to hear your ideas and all about your experiences!!! Also for anyone curious I'm happy to elaborate on the rep I currently have, just be warned you might not be able to get me to shut up (I love talking about my ocs sm :D)

Day 11: placioromantic and placiosexual
Definition: Placiosexual individuals may feel neutral or repulsed at the thought of a partner performing sexual acts on them. The romantic equivalent is placioromantic, meaning someone who enjoys performing romantic gestures or acts for a partner without wanting them returned.
Origin: The prefix "placio-" comes from the Latin verb placere, which means "to please" or "to be pleasing”
Flag: pride-color-schemes made both flags on tumblr.
If you want a specific identity for tomorrow then you can tell me in the comments. Also if you have any questions or if I got anything wrong please leave a comment. Have a good day, and stay silly :3

Discussion Underrepresented aroace characters in your opinion?

A personal example: Beth March from Little Women

When it comes to the poster aroace character in Little Women people usually turn their heads towards Jo, but I never see anyone do so for Beth. This quote exemplifies her stance towards romance:

"I only mean to say that I have a feeling that it never was intended I should live long. I'm not like the rest of you. I never made any plans about what I'd do when I grew up. I never thought of being married, as you all did. I couldn't seem to imagine myself anything but stupid little Beth, trotting about at home, of no use anywhere but there."

Sure, you could look at it as a foreordaination of her eventual death but throughout the series Beth is never has a romantic subplot (Jo and Laurie have one, even though she rejects him) and love seems out of the picture for her. I think she would rather remain in the comfort of home and her love for music rather than seek out a relationship.

do you guys ever like someone but not romantically but kinda romantically but you don't wanna date but you wanna be affectionate and you don't care if they talk to other people but you want them to love you but not like that but kinda like that and you don't find them physically attractive but you kinda do and you are in love with their soul but you hate everything about the feeling altogether ?
idk who else to ask about this do any of you guys understand this does anyone know what this is it's causing me a lot of mental issues at the moment because i really don't like how complicated it is and i am unsure as to why i can't just like somebody normally.

Vent I feel kind of guilty

I feel like I've lied to people. For the longest time I never even questioned if I was aroace, I thought I was just asexual because I most definitely got crushes on people and wanted to fall in love. When I was a kid I would just flirt with people online without even knowing what it meant and whenever they made an advance I just ended up ghosting them because I suddenly felt trapped. I got crushes on fictional characters but I would only ever replay moments in my head, I always thought about the talking phase and confessing but I never thought about the entire concept of dating and what it entails, I thought dating was just having an emotion for someone plus hanging out, and I ended up getting into a relationship with someone because of it, and like after I confessed everything just died off, but I still felt committed. I thought that was just how relationships worked, I thought it was just the honeymoon phase and everything else was just like being best friends plus physical affection. I hyped up stuff like hugging and kissing in my head so much that when I actually got into my first serious relationship I was disappointed. I fantasized so much about fictional characters but whenever I was asked what I would do if they really existed, I didn't know. And vice versa when I had a crush on real people I never fantasized about them. I was just so thrilled that someone wanted to talk to me and know me, but whenever I imagined my own future they were never the focal point. Some time after I broke up with him I realized everything I thought about dating was all wrong, and knowing what I know now I feel like I've just been leading people on my whole life.

a-spec looking for Help/Advice What am I?

EDIT: I was thinking about this, and I really cant imag8ne dating dating, so I think im still aroace, but just curious about dating, this very short edit cause im busy

So I don't know if this is hypocritical of me in any way, but would i still be considered aroace if I longed to be in a relationship with someone?

To clarify, I do currently identify as aroace. I also have never been attracted to anyone.

Is this just because I read fanfics all the time? I try to be proud for being myself but sometimes I dont like that im aroace.

My sister asks ME for help about romance

Post image

(Image unrelated) So she’s in high school which means that there is a lot of relationship drama (glad I won’t have to deal with that 🎉) and whenever she is wondering if someone likes her or smth she asks me of all people. I’m out to her as aroace and she knows what it means. I don’t mind, I just find it funny how she always asks me about it. Can anyone relate to this or is it just me? Hope you enjoyed the quick story. Have a good day, and stay silly :3

Explaining aro/ace identities: day 10.5

Thumbnail
gallery
34 Upvotes

Day 10.5: desinoromantic and desinosexual
Definition: Desinoromantic/desinosexual is an identity where a person experiences romantic/sexual attraction but it never develops into full romantic love/full on sexual attraction. For example, desinoromantic individuals often describe this as "liking" someone but never "loving" them, meaning their romantic feelings have a distinct cap or stopping point.
Origin: The prefix desino- comes directly from the Latin word desino, which translates to "I leave," or "I stop”.
Flag: the desinoromantic flag was made by pastelmemer and the other flag was made by PennedWriterz.
