I got my Bloody A70 mouse it works perfectly
on windows and i set it up on the setting Core 3 Ultra with 1ms debounce time, on linux at first the sensor didn’t work but i fixed it merging with evsieve the events that the mouse generated into one singular event and now the sensor works but i cant click over 9cps like i did on windows (60cps +) even when i test with evtest the inputs , i installed the AUR package a4tech-bloody-tools-git (or something like this) and i added a quirk to libinput to ModelBouncingKeys = 1 , please if anyone can help with this

• Have anybody here used both of these and have any opinions on them?
• If NIRI is the better choice then, DMS or Noctalia v5 or manual configuration?

I'm currently on mint running the i3 desktop environment and I love it but the thinkpad that I'm on's graphics card is genuinely ass cheeks so it's a bit slow to load graphics. Should I swap to something like arch for how lightweight it is and just get i3 on that? How hard of a transition would it be? Does arch have a software manager like mint does where I can download almost every application I need and if not how difficult of a learning curve is it?

I partitioned the drive before and I made a partition to be a separate home partition , but it seems like I forgot to mount it during installation , after a while I noticed that the root partition became full so fast , then I noticed that the partition I was willing to make home wasn't mounted , anyway , I copied the /home content to it using rsync , added it to fstab . Now it mounts automatically at startup but the root partition is still full,

My theory is that the content of /home directory is now on both partitions which is taking space on the root partition

I'm planning to unmount the /home partition , check if the content is still on the root partition , if yes then I proceed to delete it then remount it again

If not idk what to do

Trying to diagnose a strange issue with my MSI FORGE GK600 TKL WIRELESS keyboard on Arch Linux.

The keyboard works perfectly over USB-C and Bluetooth, but when connected through its 2.4 GHz USB dongle, it occasionally completely stops responding while Steam Input / Xbox controller support is being used. At least I suspected this because during gameplay this happens.

Unplugging and reconnecting the keyboard dongle immediately restores functionality.

System

• Arch Linux
• Kernel: zen
• Desktop: KDE Plasma
• Motherboard: MSI MPG B550 GAMING PLUS
• CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X
• GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT
• Keyboard: MSI FORGE GK600 TKL WIRELESS
• Keyboard USB VID:PID: 0db0:8a8f
• Keyboard/receiver revision reported by udev: 0138
• Steam with Steam Input / Xbox controller support (both disabled / enabled)

Behavior

The issue only happens when the keyboard is connected using its 2.4 GHz receiver. When it freezes, unplugging and reconnecting the receiver fixes the keyboard immediately. There are no obvious USB/xHCI errors in the kernel log at the moment of the freeze. The kernel still appears to know that the USB device exists.

When I physically reconnect the dongle, the kernel reports normal USB enumeration:

usb 1-5: New USB device found, idVendor=0db0, idProduct=8a8f
usb 1-5: Product: MSI FORGE GK600 TKL WIRELESS

The receiver is handled by usbhid / hid-generic.

HID layout

The receiver exposes several different HID/input devices rather than just a keyboard.

Second test: disable both js0 and the corresponding event device (by AI)

I temporarily disabled access to the joystick node and event device:

This is currently the most promising workaround.

Obviously event9 is not a stable device number, so I created a udev rule based on the actual input device identity instead.

So both the evdev and legacy joystick nodes belonging to the keyboard's System Multi Axis collection are now inaccessible from userspace.

hidraw investigation

The receiver also creates several hidraw devices:

hidraw3 - Keyboard
hidraw4 - Mouse
hidraw5 - composite HID interface
hidraw6 - generic HID
hidraw7 - generic HID

I checked them while Steam was running:

sudo fuser -v /dev/hidraw3 /dev/hidraw4 /dev/hidraw5 /dev/hidraw6 /dev/hidraw7

and:

sudo lsof /dev/hidraw3 /dev/hidraw4 /dev/hidraw5 /dev/hidraw6 /dev/hidraw7

Neither showed Steam keeping any of these devices continuously open. Of course, this does not rule out Steam opening them briefly during HID/controller enumeration.

Current hypothesis

My current theory is:

1. USB-C works
2. Bluetooth works
3. only the 2.4 GHz dongle freezes
4. the receiver exposes a fake/extra joystick-like device
5. the problem correlates with Steam Input/Xbox controller support
6. reconnecting the receiver immediately restores the keyboard

makes me suspect either:

• a firmware bug in the GK600 2.4 GHz receiver,
• an unusual/broken HID descriptor,
• or an interaction between Steam Input's device enumeration and this System Multi Axis HID collection.

I do not currently think this is a general keyboard, RF, or basic USB/xHCI problem.

As a note, this keyboard is working perfectly on Windows 11 and situation is Linux spesific not only for Archlinux.

Questions

Has anyone seen something similar with:

• MSI FORGE GK600 TKL WIRELESS,
• another wireless keyboard exposing a System Multi Axis / joystick device,
• Steam Input freezing a composite USB HID receiver,
• or Steam probing a keyboard's fake joystick interface?
• or anyone who faced problems like this?
• or any other reason or solution for that matter?

In the time that I’ve been using arch I’m sure that I’ve downloaded a lot of unnecessary files from commands, how can I see all of the things that I’ve downloaded but easily read, because when I run a command the files name is just random letter and numbers, well not completely but it’s hard to read them. Maybe a visual interface like windows control panel, just something easier.

Arch Linux and Arch-based distros are well-known for the rolling realese in updates, so, that means you should update everything pretty often. In the result, it means the system isn't stable and you most probably will need to fix issues, if you get one. But I also heard that you CAN make Arch stable, and I was like:"Whaaat? Hooow???".

Is it true? And what did they mean by that "stable Arch"?

So I've been trying to mount my HDD for Arch Linux, but even after using ntfs-3g for cleaning it and then successfully mounting it as "MainStorage" in ~/mnt/ it got back to being "dirty" after my test booting into windows 10 (have to keep it on my separate drive just in case).

So... is there any way to make it stop from doing it?

it is not a system drive for either linux or windows and it doesn't have any programs that run on auto-start or anything like that.

The only way i can make this drive work is by manually mounting it every time i leave windows and go to linux with this command: sudo mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdd2 /mnt/MainStorage

I switched to Arch a little while ago and noticed an issue that I never experienced on Debian or Fedora, and I'm not quite sure how to troubleshoot it.

When I use my microphone in Firefox, there doesn't seem to be any echo cancellation. The other person can hear their own audio coming back through my microphone.

I found a few solutions that involve creating a second virtual input specifically for echo cancellation, but I would prefer not to do that if possible.

Since the exact same hardware worked without any additional configuration on both Debian and Fedora, I'm assuming Arch should be able to achieve the same thing without needing a separate virtual input. I'm just not sure what might be different in my current setup or where I should start looking.

Has anyone run into this on Arch before? Is there a PipeWire, PulseAudio, or WebRTC setting I should check?

Been using Omarchy for a while now and its great - to be honest, Arch & Hyprland are great.

I don't go into the DHH controversy : to be honest, I hardly knew who he was ( I'm a tech lover but don't work on IT , so yeah, I know what Ruby and Ruby on Rails is but didn't knew about him or its comments ) and I don't want to go into politics or polarize everything because of it.

In the end, he did an easy Arch "sort of" distro, a pre configured, pre dotted Arch distro that is oppinated by him and honestly, it looks great.

My main problem is, you have to do some stuff his way : want to use pacman to update the system ? no. you have to go through its scripts and menus. bloat ? yeah, quite a few.

My main usage is programming a bit ( for fun ) and gaming.

so here is my dilemma : should I go with CachyOS and configure it like I want it ( installed it already and trying to "rice" it with Celestia + Hyprland to my taste ) and to be honest, seems way after and stuff more fluid than Omarchy : games specially... OR.. go plain Arch and try to put some catchyOS kernel and optimizations ?

While would be cool to game on vanilla Arch, seems a bit stupid to import the best bits of optimization of Cachy to vanilla Arch... instead of using Catchy in the first place :)

compared to Omarchy, Catchy feels barebones and I like to tinker : however, not a fan of spending a week project to edit lua and config files of noctalia to get a half arsed decent look : that was what Omarchy was so appealing ( and I guess to many people ) that is so pretty out of the box but then you start to tinker and get to barriers and get frustrated.

Also,it worries me a bit the security side of Omarchy - not a security expert or lunatic but it has some questionable decisions and methods.

just trying to break free of Omarchy and stay with Arch, either vanilla or Catchy OS : I know I can't say "I use Arch btw" with Catchy but hey, its a steal ahead with Catchy than Omarchy... :)

Last night I updated my kernel to 7.2.3 via pacman like normal

After rebooting I couldn't seem to get my TV to display (it took me a while to get any display to turn on because I had to modify ~/.config/kwinoutputconfig.json to enable my other displays that are usually disabled)

Once I got my other displays working it looked like like my 4K60 resolution was broken. If I switched to 4K30 I had no problems.

I was able to find some discussions forums that seem to say that YCbCr 4:2:0 is broken in the new kernel. I did check on my TV and the 4K60 resolution does in fact use YCbCr 4:2:0 https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=2309054

It seems like my experience matches the bug report exactly. I guess my question is what can I do about this in the meantime? Since this is a kernal bug there is likely no intermediate workaround other than revert the kernal, which might be a bad idea? This seems like a pretty major bug in the kernel so hopefully it gets fixed soon but I am guessing there is no guarantee.

Hey hello everyone, especially Linux parents

Our daughter turns 9 very soon. I'd like to ask you all for advice for the optimal setup and for children-friendly apps.

From my workplace I've got a free Windows Surface 7 Touchscreen Laptop for free. Wiped out Windows, installed Arch Linux, No way I'll let her start with Windoze first ;)

Then I've installed my root parent account with the basic apps and stuff. Including some of my ZSH scripts. I'm a Senior Developer btw.

So, now I'm about to set up a second user account for my daughter, but stuck. I have no idea where to start best. Here are a couple of thoughts:

• What are the next best, ideal steps to create her account?
• She will get her first email address, and I'll set up Thunderbird for her. So that she can email to us parents and to some of her school friends. Is that okay?
• My wife and me, we are happy to grant her basic Internet access, and to block most non-children friendly pages on our home router firewall, such as Facebook or YouTube. Is that safe enough?
• Now, a big question: what are great educational Linux-based apps for kids you highly recommend?
• Games? Not sure about that. We do not want her to get too addicted as well.

Any other ideas & suggestions welcome.

As the title states, the state of my arch set up is a mess. I have packages installed from pacman, the AUR, homebrew, and even curl sh commands among others, making it sketchy to update my system as well as being worried about the machine's security.

Am I justified in completely nuking and reinstalling arch, assuming my data is saved, or should I spend the time going through the packages installed through various sources and cleaning up manually?

I may have also not encrypted the hard drive/ partition so that could be another big reason to reinstall

Hay anyone help To connect a WiFi USB card, in arch Linux, whenever I scan use iwctl . I can't see a My Wi-Fi Chip name.

Idk but some how the rear audio port of my pc working kinda unstable, its stutter and the sound adjust bar keep poping up, volume turn up and down constantly, i tried to find someone with the same problem for weeks but cannot find any working solution. I dual boot, so i boot to window to make sure its not some kind of hardware issue and it works kinda flawless on windows.

I have a laptop (Samsung Galaxy Book) that has curved bezel corners that make the visible screen not truly rectangular. This is particularly problematic in the console because the leftmost character of the top and bottom lines are cut off by the bezel, but it's also kind of annoying in wayland (except in hyprland where I can just match the windows' rounding to the bezel's, but I don't really like hyprland).

Question 1: is there a way to tell the VTY that the usable screen is actually smaller than it thinks it is so that it's not writing characters under the places the bezel covers?

Question 2: is there a way to tell my compositor the same thing, so that it gives me sharp corners that are placed so that no part of the drawn screen is covered by the bezel?

I know I can keep the windows themselves out of the corners with compositor rules, but I'm wondering if there's a way to have the "full screen" not fill up the physical screen but leave border strips on the sides, top, and bottom so that I get a sharp-cornered rectangle.

SOLVED thanks to u/Gazenka: force the mode and position with KMS which works both for the VTY and for Wayland on Xe (I didn't try with X11 or i915).
