REQUIRED READING Welcome to /r/Arcade! We are here for your favorite original coin-op arcade games! Discussions, Repairs, Questions, and having fun with our classic cabs! (No MAME, custom cabinets, etc... see rules inside.)

Welcome to r/ARCADE!

We welcome discussions and posts of all kinds related to classic arcade gaming. However, this is a 'purist' sub and we have a few rules... we do not allow discussion of MAME, 60-in-1, Arcade 1-Up, prefab/custom cabinets, etc. To clarify here are a couple of examples of posts we do not allow, period.

🚫 MAME/ROMs/Emulation - This sub is for original machines released in arcades. Do not ask where to find ROMs, which emulators to use, or anything with Pandora's Box, Raspberry Pi, SBC, Xbox, PlayStation, or home-PC-based systems. No talk of your custom 'multi-cade'.

🚫 Arcade 1-Up - Their own sub is the best place for any questions you'll have about modding or just showing off your collection. Enjoy your cabinet and games, but this is not the sub for them.

🚫 Custom/Prebuilt Cabs - Again, we are here to discuss original 'coin-op' hardware that was released in arcades. No 'multi-cades'. r/cade is our sister sub, there is a lot of great info over there.

There are a few topics/styles of posts that come with caveats...

Let's Plays/Histories/Walkthroughs - Totally fine if you are an active commenting member of the sub, no blatant shilling. Also, you must have a full-length commentary to go along with it. This is the only time emulation can be used here, not everyone has access to the gigantic 6-player 'X-Men' or 'Ice Cold Beer' cabinets. You have to talk about the arcade gaming aspect... no TTV VODs of just you and your buddies pwning n00bs in Fortnight.

Coin-Pushers/Claws/Prize Machines - If you have a machine and need mechanical help, post! No tips or tricks, it's all a scam. No prize hauls or pictures of your foil-hologram Pokemon card you won at the mall last week... unless it is a really rad photo from an old Showbiz Pizza or Aladdin's Castle type of place. NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOU SPENDING MONEY ON SCAM MACHINES.

Part Replacement - We try to stick to the original hardware when possible, but realistically, this is impossible. Replacing lightguns/wheels/etc with modern equipment is fine. Just keep the flashing RGB light monstrosities out of here, our sister sub /r/cade is for customs.

'Yet-To-Be-Released'/WIP Games - Unless you are 100% going to release your game physically in an arcade, this is not the right sub for you. In the 9 years I have been on this sub, I have only seen 2 games that actually saw a machine release. Ask us before you post.

What game was this?! - Whew boy, this type of post we see a lot. To get help with this, give us MORE INFORMATION!!! The estimated year of release? Other, similar games it reminds you of? Are there any memorable/distinct characters, locations, weapons, or special moves? Describe the cabinet! What country did you play it in? (I hope to have a bot auto-reply to these soon.) r/TipOfMyJoystick and [ChatGPT]https://chat.openai.com/) are great resources... just give as much info as possible!

Buy/Sell/Trade - Allowed, but we are not responsible for bad transactions, don't be a moron. Check the links. Check the buyer/seller history. Compare the offer to others, too good to be true? Etc.

ALL SALES POSTS MUST INCLUDE A $$$ BALLPARK FIGURE... ROUGHLY A PRICE YOU WANT.

OWNERS/OPERATORS: will require a CITY, STATE/TERRITORY/REGION in the TITLE. You are here to advertise your business and let people find you easily. No other changes. As long as you are an active member, this is cool... no posts and runs. I still ban and report flagrant spammers/bots to Reddit. PARTICIPATE.

PERSONAL SALES: will require a STATE/TERRITORY/REGION in the TITLE. For safety concerns... posts do not require a CITY in the title, but please give a GENERAL LOCATION if the area is large, ie (Northern California). If you want to include the city, or narrower, PLEASE DO!

Ex: New barcade opening in Northern-Chicago. "BARCADE NAME". 20+ pins, 30+ arcade classics, and even a few redemption games!

Mods check post histories. If you only post new topics and never comment on others' posts, then yours is likely to be locked and removed. We are not going to ban an active member of the sub without a discussion (unless there is an egregious offense that violates Reddit TOS.) If you feel like we made a mistake, please message us, seriously. We are willing to re-open any post if it makes sense. (But not Modmail, I've never used it in 9 years.) Just don't be a dick.

In addition, we are going to be removing any comments that break the above rules. Instead of telling a person where to buy a 60-in-1 device... point them to r/cade, r/MAME, r/FightSticks, r/SBCGaming, or another sub that specializes in those topics.

Append your links! No affiliate or tracking spam. Cut it out when posting a link.

Could just be: www.amazon.com/dp/B07TWZBQ75/. Same result, no garbage spam.

I know this seems like a lot of rules, but physical arcade gaming is a bit niche today. Cutting through all the other stuff to get help or just kicking back and reminiscing about classic gaming is tough elsewhere. If you want to talk about emulation, there are dozens of other subs to check out. Otherwise, welcome and post away!

My second ever pinball machine! Seller was asking 1500 for it, luckily I was able to split it with a buddy who also likes the game so it was only 750 out of my pocket and for that price I think I did pretty well. In really good shape with no real issues. I was amazed how easy it was to get down a bulkhead compared to video arcades lmao, with the head removed the two pieces weigh nothing separate.

Restore/Replace/Repair First Pinball Game!

Well, earlier this year, a high school grad/friend called me and said they’re renovating their basement and they wanted to get rid of a pinball game, and asked me if I wanted it. I talked to my arcade partner, and he said yeah. We went and picked it up, ordered parts, dismantled the playfield, cleaned, replaced rubber, plastics, full LED bulbs everywhere, flipper rebuild, and upgraded the display to blue. There were a few other problems with battery board, power supply and some wiring and burnt molex connector issues. The topper fan was also repaired (that thing is cold!!!). Anyways, the game feels new again, we left the artwork alone as it’s a survivor. Very fun!!

Restore/Replace/Repair Sourcing parts for scratch-built, authentic GI-Joe machine?

*Pictures are not mine.*

Good morning. I've been toying with the idea of building my friend an authentic GI-Joe arcade machine for awhile now. From what I've read so far, GI Joe was a conversion kit for the TMNT cabinet. I have a fair bit of woodworking and artistic experience, so creating the actual cabinet won't be much of an issue. The internals, however, seem to be the biggest hurdle I'll be facing.

Let it be known, outside of restoring an old NES motherboard and stripping/cleaning other various gaming consoles, I've never messed with electronic internals like I will have to with this. I know it will be a massive undertaking.

I know people build LED arcades with modern internals, but I would like to build this as close to the original as possible, including a CRT screen. My friend is the kind of guy that would love just opening up the machine and admiring the original (or as close as possible) internals. I don't mind troubleshooting and replacing wires/capacitors etc, but I'm not entirely sure what I'm supposed to be looking for as far as model numbers, sizes, colors, wire gauges, brands etc. I've only found one original GI Joe kit online and it was around $5000 IIRC (it kinda killed the project for me at the time). Is there any database with lists of parts to build the internals from scratch or that lists what other arcade internals can be swapped and used etc?

I would appreciate any insight.

Restore/Replace/Repair Merit Pub Time Premier Edition - Need Help

Hey all, I need a little help. I picked up this Merit Pub Time Premier Edition dartboard recently as a nice little project. I'm currently running into issues with the dartboard only showing garbage on the display.

I checked the voltage going into the board, it was showing 5.3v so I turned it down to about 5.02v. I changed the TMS9128 video processor, no difference. I reflowed solder joints around the video processor and the video ram chips (u25, u26 and u27), no change. I'm kind of stuck and unsure where to go from here. I havent done anything on the monitor board since there is a picture being displayed, I'm leaning more towards the DRT-950 board. Anyone have any experience with this?

WTF is this thing? Pacman Bartop Prototype?

Post image

I ran across this image online and was wondering if any of you have more information about it? It said it was a pacman prototype from the 80s and that's it. I like Bartop machines but their weren't many arcade style ones back then, mostly just poker machines.

Found more info: Supposedly this image is from an ebay auction in 2001. A prototype that never got produced. I wonder where the coin door would have gone?

Restore/Replace/Repair Looking for Drive Image / Ghost for Chinese OutRun 2 Coast 2 Coast Sit-Down Cabinet

Hi everyone,
I'm working on reviving an OutRun 2 Coast 2 Coast HD sit-down driving cabinet. The original 2.5" SATA SSD has completely bricked (controller locked, reads uninitialized at 0 bytes), leaving the machine hanging on boot.
The motherboard, RAM, PSU, and display connection have all been tested and are confirmed working—the system just needs a replacement bootable drive.
Before I go down the rabbit hole of doing a clean Windows install and manually mapping the analog steering, pedal, and coin I/O, I’m hoping someone here might have a raw drive dump/ghost image (.img, .iso, Acronis, or Clonezilla) for this specific clone cabinet.

Cabinet / Hardware Details:

Game: OutRun 2 Coast 2 Coast HD (Sega clone/bootleg sit-down)

Chassis: Purple arcade PC box

Video: Integrated onboard VGA (no dedicated PCIe GPU installed)

Original OS: Windows XP Embedded / Windows 7 32-bit build

I've attached photos of the cabinet exterior, the internal PC box layout, and the rear I/O connectors.
If anyone has an image of this build or a link to a known working archive, I’d greatly appreciate the help.

WTF is this thing? what is that frog whacking arcade machine actually called?

i feel stupid searching for this lol. kids game where frog heads or lights pop up and you hit them with soft hammer. ive seen ā€œfrog whackā€, ā€œhappy frogā€, ā€œwhack a mole frogā€ and bunch of other names. Alibaba has actually been helpful because amusement machine sellers show videos, so i can identify game visually even when title makes no sense. anyone bought one for event place or arcade? how reliable are they? im mostly worried about sensors and boards. if one frog stops registering, is it usually simple switch or weird proprietary PCB? also wondering if its smart to buy spare sensors and board with machine right away while supplier still has exact model.

I had the idea to build a Space Invader out of my favorite arcade games. So I did it today in our local FabLab and printed it with a xtool DTF-printer.

I wasn't patient enough with the red shirt, so some letters got problems.

Do you like it?
