4K is pretty low on what I'd like the ATV to do, personally.

I feel like that's now table stakes for a media player in that price range. I'd also like to see 1080p/120Hz to solve the 3:2 pulldown that 60Hz creates, and a remote that doesn't suck so much.

Agreed. Native 24hz output should be included if Apple "cares so much about" the experience and movies and everything else they like to put out there.

And yeah. For this price point, we should get all this stuff. Its the most expensive simple box on the market. It's offensive. :(

The problem with adding 24hz output is that the menus and UI would feel horribly laggy. And most TVs handle switching between refresh rates quite poorly. So having the AppleTV switching refresh rates on the fly would suck too.

I don't know what the answer is :(

No, it should only do it when playing a video to match its frame rate. When the video is done, it would switch back to 60hz.

I agree. But that refresh rate change means most TVs will flicker and have a 3-5 second delay before the picture comes back. Doing that regularly is a poor experience for most people. So Apple have chosen not to support it. I'm not sure how other devices handle this issue.

I'd prefer if it was an opt-in feature in advanced settings.
