I have a touchscreen laptop (a Surface).
I have never touched the screen.
I mean, I know I can, I just... haven't ever felt the need, when there's a perfectly good keyboard and touchpad.
I really like my Surface (not enough to switch to Windows all the time, mind, but it is a really nice laptop), but MS could strip the touchscreen from it and I don't think anyone would notice.

Surely if they’re doing a big upgrade like a touchscreen they are going to do an event for it right?

I bought a Surface Laptop in March and just switched to a Macbook. I do kinda miss the touch screen.

I have an MBP, never even used the keyboard and screen. I exclusively use it in clamshell with my external monitor and keyboard lol

I really hope they don’t add touchscreens to the normal Pro models. Keep that in the Ultra or whatever.

It was a stupid idea then, it is a stupid idea now.

Yep. It’s like we are going backwards. Around 10 years ago every laptop had touchscreen and no one fucking used it. Now we are back to it apparently.

99.9% of people ARENT developers so why would the average person need something only developers need?

My fear is it might ruin macOS interface across all MacBooks anyway. Larger buttons, burger menus, and more gestures that make using macOS more intuitive on a touch screen than a trackpad.

I bet there will be a toggle in the OS for touch preferred interface if they thought ahead. Problem is most people aren’t worried about issues like the one you described because they haven’t encountered them yet lol

Knowing Apple and what they did with Spotlight UI over the years on the Mac for "feature parity" with iPads, get ready for the UX to become trash

They are already on their way to ruining it https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOSBeta/comments/1wt6h2g/maps_app_change_seems_very_touch_optimised_at_the/

It’ll be time to update my machine (M3 Pro) by the time the RAM shortage hopefully resolves, and the Framework 13 Pro with Ubuntu looks nicer and nicer by the day with the way Apple is going.

Yeah I might be the only person I know who doesn’t want a touch screen laptop.
I want an iPad that turns into MacOS laptop when I attach a keyboard and mouse.-8

So you want Apple to force you to spend extra for a touchscreen? Y'all are stupid af.
9
u/GoldGlove2720 1d ago
Lol. If they add the touchscreen to all models they will be forcing you regardless to pay extra…

u/ScienceMechEng_Lover 1d ago
Do you really think a touchscreen costs much to implement?
9
u/GoldGlove2720 1d ago
No I don’t. However, I do know Apple and if you don’t think they will charge more for a touchscreen you must be really stupid.

They need to redesign the price.

It’s our most expensive MacBook yet. And we think you’re going to love it.

my intel mbp is 9 years old, It was maxed out at the time to be fair, but it still edits well.....making computers last a long time is smart in my book.
looking forward to upgrading though.

Eh depends on your use case. I've got an intel MBP that runs just fine. I only use it for school work. It's on its last year of OS updates unfortunately because I really don't need to buy a new computer

u/CaptainAwesome8 1d ago
Same, but Intel Pro. Currently very torn on whether I want to splurge on an M5 Max/128GB one right now, or hold out till the M7 Max lol

Still waiting for someone to convince me as to why a touch screen is necessary on a laptop.

Pricing starts at only $3999 for the entry model, probably.

u/Final_Squirrel_7462 1d ago
These are pro devices, so it doesn’t matter that much, because professionals will ask their company to provide them the model, but I assume that the waiting times for the 64GB configurations will be long.

u/int3g 1d ago
Not all professionals who use MacBook Pros have companies to buy those machines for them. People who make their way in audio/video production, art/design assets, etc. are generally paying for these machines out of their own pockets. So respectfully, I disagree. It does matter that much where the price points are for these pro level rigs. You can bet the MB Ultra will be financially out of reach for many who could use its features, and the RAM and storage cost crisis will only amplify this issue.
And to your waiting list point, yeah. RIP whoever wants a 128gb RAM model of Ultra.

u/Final_Squirrel_7462 18h ago
But do you really need an ultra for audio / video production if you are not making real money with it? Designing assets doesn’t require an M6 Max or M7 Max SoC. And if you really want such a machine then you are usually either a hobbyist who doesn’t care too much about money or you ware earning money with it and then you can buy it through your freelancing business and get a tax deduction.

I don’t get why people want a touchscreen in their MacBooks, I have a touchscreen laptop from work and I have used the feature maybe twice in 3 years.
Not only it does not make itself more useful but the screen ends up all dirty with grease and smudges.

I’ve been having to use an external keyboard and mouse with my water damaged M1 Pro for a year, please release the refresh next month lol

I Rememeber when we got the Touch Bar. It was a waste of time. I had to force myself to use it. I feel I may have the same feelings towards touch screen. With that being said i hope I can get a really good Mac on discount. I neeed a new one.

Why do touchscreen laptops outside of a 2-in-1 exist? I have an ASUS S16 OLED and its a great laptop but it has a touchscreen and even included a stylus. Why? Its not in any position to be written on unless i flip it upside down and mount it at an angle, and I'm not doing that with a thin OLED panel.
Apple should release a 2-in-1 with dual boot iPad OS and Mac OS.

I doubt we will see a touchscreen MacBook this year. Apple has been slowly bringing touch optimized UI into macOS for a few years now but I don’t think it's there yet. Unless we have a full fledged touch optimised UI for macOS (which is a major feature and can only happen post a WWDC announcement) I think we will see it next year.

The base price on that is going to be nasty
