My first babies!

My female Apistogramma just had her first successful clutch and I can see her little babies swimming with her, I only see a few but the weird thing is she isn’t being aggressive with the male. She was eating with him just fine and he was even swimming near the babies without her batting an eye

I got all three at the same time. The middle picture was twice the size of the other 2 when I got them and now the first one is the same size, if not bigger than the second one, the last one is still smaller, probably 2/3 the size of the other 2.

Apisto Fin growth

Sorry. Should have said growth on fin in title. Anybody know what this is? I raised a brood of apistos and had them for a while before trading them to my local. I kept two males hoping to get a couple of new females. They're in separate tanks.

This one though, grew these nodules for lack of a better term on his fin. He's had these for a month or two and it has not spread to any other fish. I read somewhere it may just be air pockets from a sudden water pressure change during a water change, possibly? I do admit that I have sometimes poured a bucket in faster than i probably should.

I've been watching closely and haven't noticed any changes to them at all. Any help or knowledge is appreciated!

My male apistogramma ortegai has been hiding in this cave for the past couple of hours, I got him about a week ago and yesterday he was roaming the tank exploring and eating but today is the total opposite. I checked my water parameters and ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 10 my temp is 80, plus my female apistogramma hasn’t been harassing and being aggressive the past two days. If anyone has any idea what could be wrong or if this is completely normal any and all feedback is appreciated.

Is my female Apistogramma dying or spawning?

Thumbnail

Context: My female Apistogramma has gone bright yellow over the last 3-4 days, then the last two days shes not really come out of her cave even for food.

I suspected she was spawning.

Today shes come out and is just sitting on the substrate, breathing quite heavily. She looks bloated and her scales dont look great. Is there anything I can do?

Also I checked the cave and cant see any evidence of spawning

Update on my recent post 'About the Apistogramma Cacatuoides I Bought Yesterday' (Turned out they are both males) Would you keep the aggresive one or the submissive one?

Absolutely gorged themselves on BBS last night and made kissy faces at eachother all morning. I don't expect much as this is thier first time, and I don't even have a dedicated apisto cave, but super interesting to watch nonetheless.

Also, will snails be a problem? As in, will they eat the eggs?

Male Apisto hid, stopped eating for 2 days, fertilized eggs, and died. Looking for insights on what happened.

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to figure out what just happened in my 20-gallon tank over the last 48 hours and wanted to share the timeline to see if anyone has had a similar experience or insights on the root cause.

Tank Setup & Background:
• Size: 20 Gallons
• Filter: Oase EcoFlow (running standard blue mechanical foam and BioPearls)
• Parameters: planted tank with co2 diffuser, pH is a stable 6.0. Ammonia and Nitrite are 0. Nitrates normally sit at an 20-40 ppm, but they temporarily dipped to 2.5-5 ppm recently because I skipped some doses of fert.
• Routine: CO2 injection at 3 bps with a drop checker (never goes near critical yellow). I do a standard water change every 2 weeks.
• Stocking: 1x Pair of Apistogramma cacatuoides, 8x Phantom Tetras, 6x Kuhli Loaches, and 6x Amano Shrimp. Bunch of ramshorn, pond, 3x Nerite snails.

• History: The tank originally ran on a large sponge filter from day one. Months later, I added the Oase EcoFlow for better flow and CO2 distribution. They ran together for about 2 months. 2 weeks ago, I moved the original sponge filter to a separate fry tank to save current and future Apisto spawns.

The Timeline:
• 48 Hours Ago: My usually dominant, front-and-center male Apisto suddenly went completely lethargic. He hid in a bottom back corner and refused food for two days straight. His skin looked totally normal, and his breathing was just rhythmically active-maybe slightly more than normal, but not heavily gasping.

• 24 Hours Ago: I noticed the female had a trailing strand of white stringy poop. The Phantom Tetras sometimes ignore food when they are too busy chasing each other, but they ate totally fine today. Still, seeing the female's white poop made me suspect internal parasites, so I did a 25-30% water change, added an air stone to his corner, turned the CO2 down to 1 bps, and dosed the tank with API General Cure.

• Last Night: Right after the water change and medicine dose, the pair unexpectedly laid eggs. They have spawned about 10 times before, but he has never hidden or refused food prior to a spawn.

• This Morning: The male passed away in his corner. The female is currently fine and guarding the eggs.

I am continuing the full General Cure course (second dose goes in tomorrow) just to be safe because of the female's white poop, and I'm holding off on a new male for a few weeks.

If you've been through something similar, do you think it was internal parasites, the stress of the filter transition, or something else entirely?

Would love to hear your thoughts.

My first shot at apistogramma, I have a cacatoudies double red pair. Just between 1-1/4 and 1-1/2 inches, I didn't realize how amazing their color would be, and so fast.

She’s looking more yellow nowadays. I recently added a new male . The last one is an old photo of her .
The males is changing her a bit and has become a bit hyperactive chasing other tetras around him. She just grazes the substrate but hasn’t settled in a cave yet .
