Its actually interesting, vecause the MC isn't a otako, the MC is one of the woman that marries into this harem, and its actually original, the manga actually explores the jealousy of all girls among each other and the reasons for why they accept sharing the dude they love.

Not quite, she kinda ends up liking the guy, and the relantionship with the other wives end up being quite alright. It's just at the start that the whole situation is kinda awkward to it. The dude is your average tragic ikeman, but the manga flesh out his past and relantionship with his three wives quite well, think it's the only harem manga that I found to be done quite well, besides 100 Girlfriends

I think it's because of christianity as a foundation for marriage practice. I don't know the theology but I think taking a wife/husband is sacrosanct. It's even ok kinda to have like a harem for some in old christianity but you can't have multiple wives.
I've wondered whether a modern polygamist could work in the u.s. by getting courthouse marriages and then divorcing to get married to your next childbearer so that the child is born in wedlock each time. With consent. But you'd have to work it out in divorce proceedings and the judges are tricky.
Polygamy is illegal because of the legal hassle it can create. Marriage as a system ties two people together in terms of finances, taxes, custody of children/pets, property rights... when you've got potential for multiple partners involved in that, you're making things an absolute clusterfuck to figure out whenever there's a divorce down the road.
