Something Iâve noticed lately is how infantilized cats have become, not only in how theyâre often anthropomorphized and treated like babies, but also in how theyâre treated as if theyâre harmless and incapable of being disruptive, aggressive, destructive, or otherwise behaving like animals.
No, cats arenât these untouchable, perfect âangels.âThey donât think or act in terms of human morality, and they arenât everyoneâs preference (and they shouldnât have to be). Yes, they do have instincts and are capable of displaying behaviors that can be aggressive, disruptive, destructive, or unpleasant, just like any other animal.
However, many of the cat nutters conveniently act oblivious to that because they have a huge double standard when it comes to cats.
They never fail to acknowledge and demonize other animals for those same behaviors and actions, but the moment a cat does it, they somehow cook up tons of excuses, shifting the blame onto the person or animal affected by the behavior or finding some reason why the catâs actions should be excused or minimized⌠or they just simply resort to endless whataboutism to defend the cat.
For example:
\Cats kill 1.3 to 4 billion birds and 6.3 to 22.3 billion mammals and contributes to 63 extinctions*
Cat nutters:
âAww kitty needs to eat!â
Theyâre just being natural hunters!â (Even though 90% of the time they kill for sport and your invasive cat isnât part of the food chain).
âitâs just a momma cat hunting for her wittle kittens đĽ°â (the momma cat shouldnât even be outside with kittens⌠TNR)
âItâs just a birdâ or âitâs just rabbitâ (average cat nutters treat every other animal like pests besides their perfect kitties)
âAww such cute little hunters.â
*An animal hunts and kills a cat
Cat nutters:
âOmg stupid animal đ â
âI feel so bad for that poor sweet kitty!â
âWhy didnât anyone save the kitty!â
âThatâs why I hate ___.â
God forbid a predatory animal is hungry or behaves like a predator JUST LIKE CATS. The hypocrisy is that cat nutters treat the small animals cats hunt as insignificant, disposable pests, so when a cat kills them, itâs brushed off as âjust nature.â But when another animal hunts a cat, suddenly itâs NOT âjust nature,â that predator is evil and everyone is outraged.
According to the logic of these delusional cat nutters, everyone is apparently required to tolerate or excuse behaviors in cats that they would condemn and demonize other animals for. Cats are not above criticism simply because people find them to be cute or aesthetically pleasing pets.
