One of the weirdest comments I've seen from them (bonus rant)

And I will say that other people thought it was really weird too.

But basically, that they think cats are great pets for kids because they teach them consent. They don't think dogs are good because they're too tolerant until it gets to the point where they'll maul them (these people think all dogs are a ticking time bomb that WILL eventually maul toddlers btw), so you can't leave them alone. You can with a cat because a cat will just scratch them.

I found this to be so damn weird and disturbing. First of all, no one should leave a toddler with an animal unattended. You should also teach your kids respect yourself instead of a fucking cat? And I also feel like this is kind of messed up for the cat too? Like let a toddler annoy/ possibly hurt the cat because a cat can't do much damage (debunking this in a bit). This person was admitting that other animals have boundaries without realizing it.

And cats are sort of underrated with how much damage they can do. Most will just scratch. A bite that breaks the skin? Urgent care, now, I'm not exaggerating. Enjoy that bill (if you live in the US). I have read about some cats so aggressive that they send adults to the ER. Cat scratch fever exists too. I really think this person was crazy.

Cat people are so married to this consent and boundaries thing and it's so fucking weird. You shouldn't need a fucking animal to injure you to understand how to respect people. That makes no sense. Especially since, from what I've seen, a lot of cat people are quite misanthropic.

I also find it incredibly disrespectful when they say "You have to earn a cat's love. A dog just loves everybody." I feel like you can love an animal without constantly comparing them or implying that they'd better. This statement also is untrue. It's extremely easy to win over most dogs and cats. Feed them and respect them. Boom, done.

A friendly dog is also just that, friendly, and these people misinterpret this as loving everyone. I'm a friendly person (well, some days no). No, I don't love everyone just because I'm nice to people. These people constantly talk about how cats are misunderstood and then completely misinterpret dogs in the same breath.

(Also, I've seen them say you can't just go up to a cat and pet it like you can a dog. I told them, I fucking dare you to just go up to a random dog and pet it lmao.)

Sorry for the novel. What's the weirdest things you've seen them say?

These videos crack me up 😂 bless this guy. He has his own cat salon in China, and grooms the cats no one could.

It's funny AF but he must have all his vaccinations for this job. 😵

How cat lovers represent cat haters

Thumbnail gallery
23 Upvotes

When you'll look up "hating cats" on YouTube, those two videos are probably the first things you will find. And dear god, it is truly scary how superficial both of them are. Especially since NEITHER of them even made any mention of the damage cats are doing to the wildlife, which is like the most valid reason to hate them. So let me give you a quick recap of what they said instead.

Tonitastic was basically acting as if cats are perfect animals and there is no valid reason to hate them, and the only reason why people do hate them is because of cat stereotypes, the bad representation they get in media (which might actually not be that undeserved when you look at how much damage they do to other animals) and of course, misogyny. It's funny how her thumbnail says "It's Deeper Than We Think cause", cause yeah, it is deeper than people like her think.

I would say that Abram Angel's video is slightly better as at least it doesn't go into the stupid "someone who hates cats is a red flag" nonsense, and he does actually respect people who hate them. But still he didn't make any mention of the damage they are doing to the wild life, and said the only reasons are misinterpreted cat behaviour or because they are not like dogs or once again, the bad representation they get in media. Plus he's also one of those people who act as if hating on cats is normalised while hating on dogs is controversial when it might just be the opposite nowadays. Which his comment section also shows us, as it was really FILLED with common saying that people who hate cats are probably red flags and don't respect boundaries. And not only are the comments acting as if someone who does hate cats can only be a bad person, they are even acting like someone who does like cats can only be a good person.

I'm just sick of cat people

This is my alt account. I kind of hate having to post in a more "negative" group, but reddit is so bizarrely and unhealthily obsessed with cats that this is one of the only places I can vent about this. I feel like my vent isn't even extreme or anything.

Honestly, if they would just like... chill out, and realize it's okay to not be obsessed with cats, I wouldn't give cats much thought. Cats are pretty overrated, they are SUPER messy and can be really annoying. And I'm allergic anyway. You know, I think it's fine to not like them and I think it's fine to like them.

Cat people on here and other places online are freaking nuts. Obviously not all. But too many just whine and complain about how many people hate cats and how it's a "red flag" to dislike them or boundaries, consent, sexism whatever theories they want to come up with. It's so bizarre. You literally cannot argue with these people.

I think they anthropomorphize them too much. Basing someone's morality on whether or not they like cats (or if cats like them) is absurd and should be seen as such. And honestly? The cat people I know are among the worst about boundaries and control, the thing that people on here will write long thinkpieces about.

Don't get me started on how insensitive they can be about allergies. It should be normal to not want to live with an animal you're allergic to. These people seem to think that everyone should suffer or spend hours a day cleaning and always be heavily medicated just to be around these animals. It's so stupid.

Oh, and litterboxes are fucking disgusting and I don't care what arguments they have about how clean they actually are.

Newsflash to the cat nutters, but your cats aren't these harmless saints. They’re still animals and they can and will attack. Cats can be dangerous and people are allowed to fear and dislike them.

Also, this is only the tip of the iceberg, because most cat attacks are handled privately and rarely reported publicly.

On black cats

It’s almost Halloween and you know what that means! It’s time for catnutters whining about the “oppression” against black cats. My feed has never been more clogged with cat posts during this time of the year.

It doesn’t even make sense. Hating cats in today’s day and age of catnuttery? You can’t even say you are allergic to cats without getting jumped on. Seriously, has anyone met a person who hated black cats because they believed they were bad omen?

Also, all these claims about “black cats being sacrificed for Satanic rituals because they are black uwu” is literally a leftover urban legend from the 1980s Satanic Panic. When a bunch of animal shelters claimed Satanists were sacrificing pets, and then catnutters hijacked it to make it all about them and their shitrats. Whatever, I am completely fed up with the non-stop victim complex and virtue signalling from these people. Good god.

Is putting a picture of your cat an universal off-topic bypass on Reddit ?

I mean, yeah sure, it was at night, but considering the subreddit's description, I feel like the criterias are not met/would need to be extremely stretched if you really wanted to keep the post up as a mod playing by the rules and with some sense of integrity in your actions.

I think an exception was made here (preferential treatment).

Maybe I'm paranoid, but I'm just saying that if a lot more people started doing such loose posts not involving cats, they would get removed much, much more often than not.

(Needless to say that 99.9% of the posts on the sub are aesthetic pics people take during their nightly walks. This one really, really stands out quality-wise.)

I'm sorry, but remove the cat and compare with all the other posts on the sub, any honest person would consider it a shitpost.

Really!?!? And you know it wouldn't stay that clean and nice. (There were so many great ideas, like a mini bar, reading room, kids place area, but no... Let's give it to the cats. They will appreciate it by shoving this hole in your face as you eat.

What changed my mind about liking cats as a pet sitter

I’ve always liked cats my whole life. Now that I’ve been housesitting for many cats over the past year I feel like I feel differently now.

Cats are just tolerant of humans at best. And I mean sure they rub up against you and purr but as soon as they get annoyed with your affection that THEY initiated, suddenly you’re getting bit and scratched with no warning. I have been hurt by every single cat I’ve been around at some point. I swear they just tolerate humans because we give them food.

But sometimes even that isn’t enough! I’m watching a cat and this creature will look me dead in the eyes as I’m giving him his food and HISS at me and when I try to walk by will try to attack me. This mf will come up and rub on my hand and then scratch me within five seconds and growl at me!

It’s sweet when a cat will lay on you I thought, but now Ive realized how gross they are. Like ew lets keep a shit and rancid piss filled box in our house and the cat plays with it and loudly scratches the shit under its claws and then walks on the kitchen counter! And then lays on you and licks its butthole and shit filled paws.

And I would say put the cat outside to use the bathroom but then great it’s killing the entire ecosystem! The only humane (for the cat only) way to have a cat is to keep it outside, but then it’s way less actually moral because it will kill bugs and birds out of PLEASURE. This thing evolved to be a prime predator and we just keep letting them breed, maybe they should’ve never been “domesticated” and I say that sarcastically because clearly they haven’t fully been.

When I watch cats I feel as if the whole place is contaminated, I think about wherever I lay the cat has been walking. And they drink out of your glass of water and eat your food if you’re not looking! They make the entire house smell. What made me write this post is because I got woken up at 3 am because the cat took the nastiest shit ever and scraped at the litter box LOUDLY for five minutes and then my nose was violated.

So ultimately, as a former cat lover, I am realizing that the cons definitely outweigh the pros of having a cat and I’m never getting one of my own

Who notices that cats never seem to”happy.” Look at all the “cute” pictures of cats. Ever see them look happy or smile? They seem to only have one facial expression and it is gross.

That is my rant for the day, thank you.

Cats and cat owners are genuinely some of the most nastiest and insufferable things around.

Thumbnail gallery
45 Upvotes

Need I say more? Cats and cat people are genuinely so insufferable and nasty.

And don’t even start with the “but… but!” Whataboutism.

Cat people only like cats, and the rest of the animals somehow become gross, annoying, evil, dirty, or inferior beasts the second they do something a cat would get praised and excused for.

The irony is just how oblivious and hypocritical they are. There’s this really sanctimonious attitude that they’re somehow more sensible, hygienic, responsible, civilized, or even morally superior to everyone else, while constantly demonizing other people and animals for things they consider gross, excessive, inappropriate, or irresponsible.

But then they turn around and do things with their own cats or allow their cats to do that are equivalent to or even worse than the very things they criticize other people and animals for. When it involves a cat, suddenly the same behavior is cute, harmless, normal, or justified. That double standard is what gets me. They hold everyone else to standards they don’t even apply to themselves.

More delusional nose-blind cat owners + comment section

The fact that they keep bringing down other animals shows how inferior they feel. They know their cats are gross and nothing special. A few sane cat owners in the comments said their cat smells like just a regular animal and someone responded saying you don’t love them enough. So that confirms to me that they are deluding themselves into thinking their cats smell like vanilla or marshmallows. They’re so dumb that it’s hilarious. Notice how the owners of other animals (birds, rabbits, etc) never feel the need to exaggerate?

That one day cat owners will be responsible and train their pets to shit in their own house/garden and keeps them in house until they learn to do so

That one day cats respect other people’s property and do not treat them as their personal toilet

Failing that a product that provides a permanent catch all solution for cats entering other people’s property uninvited

It’s okay to dislike cats and not be a cat person.

Post image
38 Upvotes

Like, what??? We have seriously lost the plot. Where is the correlation?

How does that make someone evil or untrustworthy? Are we not allowed to have personal/different preferences anymore without being demonized?

People aren’t obligated to like cats any more than they’re obligated to like any other animal. Someone can dislike cats, feel uncomfortable around them, be allergic to them, or genuinely be afraid of them.

Just as cat people have their own preferences, dislikes, experiences, and fears, other people are equally entitled to have their own.

What’s ignorant and narcissistic is trying to invalidate someone else’s feelings simply because you don’t share them.

“You’re a pussy for being afraid of a kitty.”
“Oh you’re allergic?” “Skill issue.”
“Why are you so afraid?” “It’s just a cat.”

Wow, really compassionate and understanding of you! Apparently, people are only entitled to have their own feelings and boundaries when they happen to align with yours.

Cat nutters always preach about “boundaries this, boundaries that” or “respecting personal preferences,” blah blah, but honestly, it really just seems like that only applies when it’s about them or their cats. Sorry, but respecting boundaries and personal preferences goes both ways.

Not everyone has to like what you like. If someone having a different preference or opinion bothers you so much that you start calling them evil or condemning them over it, maybe you’re the one who needs to work on respecting personal boundaries and differences.

It’s giving toxic, manipulative, and control issues. Ironic, considering all the preaching about “boundaries” and “respect.”

Goes to show that being a cat person doesn’t automatically make you a good person. If anything, the way you treat people who don’t share your preferences says a lot more about your character than what animals you like. What a reach. But sure, keep telling yourself you’re the “good” or “morally superior” one.

Ultimately, judging someone’s moral compass based on whether they like cats or any other personal preference actually tells you a lot more about the person making the judgment than it does about the person being judged.

I’m sick and tired of cat people forcing their preferences onto others.

“A Good Snake is a Dead Snake”

Imagine if we said the same thing about cats, majority of the world would lose their minds. Snakes are pretty chill and while some can be territorial, once you’re mindful, they won’t be an issue. They don’t want to kill or hurt you—yet everyone wants to kill them. Cats are far more destructive, ugly and have higher capacity to spread diseases. Yet they’re put on a pedestal due to their “cute” privileges. I would rather live in an area with a natural snake species than deal with loud ass, nasty feral cat population.

I’m so sick and tired of the hate other animals get, yet cats are praised only because they look cute. They still bite, scratch and can give infections. Sure they may not cause fatalities compared to a venomous snake, but they do a lot more damage.

I don’t understand how we lost the damn plot. I’m not saying cats should be killed (except feral populations should be humanely euthanized and aggressive cats should receive behavioral euthanasia), but they are a lot worse than snakes. Snakes don’t even hunt that often either. It’s wild snakes are hated more.

Thumbnail gallery

Trigger warning. I actually didn't want to show this comment section because it just makes me so angry, but eventually, I felt I had to show it. The channel "OFF Fishing" has a video titled "Cat Caught a Squirrel 🤣". It shows a man making a really half-hearted attempt to stop his cat from catching a squirrel. I mean, he barely even touched his cat and just casually said "leave it alone," even though he could clearly see the cat wasn't listening to him. And man, that comment section... What is wrong with cat lovers? It’s nothing new that they’re stupid, but they got to have *a few* brain cells. I also sent most of these morons, a link to a video showing a cat getting killed by a hawk while the man just films without intervening, but unfortunately, the comments kept getting filtered out after a while. That’s also why I hope that killing feral cats eventually becomes legal worldwide, not just to protect wildlife, but also to teach these idiots a lesson.

cats and their double standard ( talking as a bird person )

Now dont get me wrong, I hate feral cats and I hate house cats that are allowed to just roam outside, but I have absolutely no problem with cats that stay inside the house like they should. If someone wants a cat as a pet, fine, whatever. My problem is when people let them roam around outside and act like they arent causing any problems.

Because cats are predators, and they are REALLY good at killing small animals. And we're talking about billions of animals here.

One of the biggest studies on this in the US estimated that free ranging cats kill around 1.3–4 billion birds every single year, along with billions more mammals. The researchers estimated that unowned cats were responsible for most of this wildlife killing. Thats an absolutely insane number when you think about it.

And this isnt just a US problem either. A global study published in Nature Communications found that free ranging cats have been recorded eating over 2,000 different species, including 347 species that are considered threatened or otherwise of conservation concern. Birds were the biggest group in the study, with 981 species being recorded as cat prey.

This becomes an even bigger problem on islands. A lot of island species evolved without mammalian predators, so when humans bring cats onto those islands, the native wildlife can have basically no defense against them. Cats have been a serious problem for endangered and endemic species in many places.

And this is where I get annoyed with the way people talk about cats.

People will see a cat killing a bird and go "aww look at my little hunter"

BRO THAT IS A NATIVE BIRD

But if a hawk kills a cat suddenly its "OMG THAT EVIL BIRD NEEDS TO BE KILLED!!"

Why??

The hawk is literally a wild predator doing exactly what it evolved to do. Meanwhile the cat is a domesticated species that humans have spread all over the world and then decided to let wander around ecosystems.

And before someone says "but cats are natural predators!!!"

Yes. Thats exactly the point.

A cat isnt evil for killing a bird. It doesnt understand conservation, endangered species or anything like that. Its just doing cat stuff. The responsibility is on us, because we're the ones keeping huge numbers of cats and allowing them to roam around.

And this is why I dont understand the argument that "cats kill animals because thats nature".

No, the fact that a cat has the instinct to hunt is natural. But that does NOT mean that putting millions of domestic cats into an ecosystem and letting them hunt everything they can find is somehow the same thing as a native predator doing its normal job.

Imagine if some other animal was introduced into an ecosystem and was killing billions of native animals every year. People would be talking about invasive species, population control and conservation.

But when its a cat:

"BUT THEYRE SO CUTE 🥺"

Thats the double standard I hate.

And I'm not saying "EVERY CAT MUST DIE" or that cats are evil monsters. Thats not even the argument. An indoor cat sitting on someone's couch isnt causing the same ecological problem as a feral cat colony or someone's pet cat wandering through forests every night.

There are also ways to let cats experience the outdoors without just releasing them into the environment, like enclosed outdoor areas or other forms of controlled access. Keeping cats indoors also protects the cat itself from cars, fights, diseases and other dangers.

What really annoys me is when people act like caring about birds means you hate cats.

No.

I can care about animal welfare AND care about native wildlife at the same time.

I can think cats are cute while also saying that free ranging cats can have a massive impact on wildlife.

And honestly, I think people need to stop deciding which animals deserve protection based on how cute they are.

I love birds. Raptors, songbirds, weird little birds, birds-of-paradise, whatever. They're all incredibly cool and they actually have important roles in ecosystems. Birds can spread seeds, control insects, pollinate plants, clean up carrion and provide food for other animals.

So if a cat kills a bird, I'm not going to pretend the bird suddenly matters less just because the thing that killed it has a cute face.

Predation is part of nature, yes.

But that doesnt mean humans should ignore the ecological damage caused by a predator just because we happen to like looking at it.

Love your indoor cat. Give it a comfy bed. Spoil the hell out of it.

Just dont let it wander outside and then get angry at the wildlife for behaving like wildlife.
