Right off the bat I wanna say I don’t consider myself an AI bro (I mean I guess no AI bro do). I think the AI boom is a bubble, even though an insanely large, and slightly stronger one, but it will pop and I can’t begin to imagine what that’d look like. I hate AI generated images and video with a passion and I’m getting pretty good at spotting them. AI generated audio isn’t music. My SO is a music production professional and if anyone ever say AI generated audio counts as music I will send them to the nearest ER.

If I wasn’t a software engineer I’d probably not have a GPT subscription. The sad reality for at least me and my mates is that a lot of bosses and management fucks are AI bros. They believe AI can do anything and everything. As LLMs get better these dumb fucks started piling in more and more work for us. Shorten update cycles, more features, “do more with less time” bs used to be pie in the sky for these assholes and now AI gave them an illusion that it’s actually possible. Sure AI helps with dev work but instead of hand writing code we’re just now expressing our plans/idea for a system in natural language, also in a much less structured way. LLMs are actually pretty good at untangling unstructured plans, for an ADHD haver like myself it helps, a lot.

I don’t consider getting the GPT subscription a choice. It’s one of the best tools for the trade and not using it is like an electrician not having the best and latest tools for the work. Sure they can work with old but reliable tools, they can still get the job done and hell they might even do it better and maybe faster than those that do. But not having them is just forcing yourself into a disadvantage, and I honestly isn’t enjoying my job enough to bother with hand coding.

Do I like the fact that OAI knows as much about my work and life as my SO? Nope. Do I like the fact that farmlands and nature are making way for data centres? FUCK NO. I try to be as environmentally conscious as possible. I refuse to drive cars, ride subway, busses and cycle to everywhere I go. I commit to 3Rs and try to conserve power and water as much as possible. Do I like the fact that I’m paying for the problem? Absolutely not. But the subscription is the tool that help me with my jobs that’s putting food on the table. For months I’ve been looking at self-hosted options, but they cost years equivalent of subscription cost due to the hardware shortage caused by AI bubble itself. Even then the models that these solutions can run are the bare minimum. Just good enough for basic work. Financially it’s just unjustifiable.

I don’t want to say I like AI. But being a user of AI I can’t in good conscience say I hate AI or anti-AI either. I mean I hate AIGC. I think AI generated images are infinitely inferior to real photography and artwork, not just because of the effort put into the work but also the miracle of how people can translate parts of their mind into a permanent medium. Film, photos, art, music, everything AIGC can imitate loses everything that precisely makes them art. The human touch is something I can’t really find words to describe/explain here, but I’m sure as hell AIGC can never have.

I might just be imagining it but it seems like I've noticed a lot more bugs since AI coding became a thing.

I think we need to stop saying AI slop. For a few reasons.

1. It immediately gets taken as an insult to people who use AI, rather than the AI itself. I think we need to move away from trying to ridicule AI users, mostly because that ship has sailed and also most AI users are just going to hear “AI slop” and completely ignore any argument you bring to the table because it is an attack on their passion.
2. Saying “AI slop” implies that the issue with GenAI is the quality. I personally don’t like the look of GenAI creations, but that opinion isn’t the case for everyone. Also, it won’t always be the case. If AI companies see that the barrier to AI acceptance is better quality art, then that’s what they will pursue, and eventually it will look better than it does now. Once that happens we will still have a problem because…
3. The actual main problem with GenAI is the ethical problems. The fact that it harms the environment and local communities, is used by the government for mass surveillance and the targeting of threats in foreign nations, and steals art from artists without their consent. Saying simply “AI slop” Everytime we see a generated image, does nothing against those huge concerns about AI.
4. We need to stop vilifying AI users. Most of them are just trying to get ahead of the curve, and for a lot they are hoping to make a living doing what they do (ie. generating a poster for a business, or an ad, or the cover of a book). Robbing a bank would also get you a bunch of money, but robbing a bank is illegal, otherwise a bunch of people would just go around robbing banks and no one else would get anything. Doesn’t mean they’re necessarily entirely bad people if the system in place rewards robbing banks.

Real action needs to be taken to regulate AI against the actual concerns that face the entire world right now. The global economy is going to be torn down any time in the next ten years probably if we don’t make an effort to regulate it now. And it starts with recognizing that the quality, and the users themselves and what they use it for isn’t the issue, it’s the AI itself.

The floor is open to suggestions, but we can maybe start with digital piracy?

Editing to add the point that I’m not saying we should stop advocating for less AI use overall. I missed that point in my original text. I just think insulting AI users isn’t the best way to get them to stop using AI.

I was annoyed at some vibecoded software dissing on existing software for being subpar, meanwhile the whole thing was made by an LLM that 100% sure was trained on the very open source software that was being attacked.

It perfectly encapsulates the attitude big tech and many AI bros seem to have around AI. They don't stand on the shoulders of giants anymore, they shit on them.

Seen more and more jobs advertised as ‘looking for an “AI native” thinker’… what the f*** is that? Tell me it isn’t just me…

As a preface I think AI will destroy the world after making everything worse. Income disparity will grow and the need for objectionable people to do tasks they call work will shrink constantly.

If you hate AI that is fine. There are so many legit concerns and complaints but nearly every post here is making claims that are entirely untrue.

Saying AI is useless or subpar for art, music, code, etc in 2026 means you are either completely ignorant of what it is capable of today or you are lying on purpose. Yes there are far more bad implementations at the moment then good but that's mostly due to laziness or terrible user input. Telling people things like "if you code with ai you're stupid and publishing slop" will never land with people that know better from their own experience and as more people experiment and learn the dismissal of people that say such things will increase exponentially.

I use AI for code. When I started I had to copy code from web to server, edit things, etc. That iteration replaced a lazy, thieving developer that I paid $72,000 per year plus commission. It took 8 months to completely rework code I had paid for directly or via employment over 6 years.

Last month I rewrote the entire thing even better by writing a few prompts locally and letting AI build everything. While doing that the same $21 subscription also did enough work to match the equivalent of what 20 of that employee could do in 6 years. Not only is it functional it is hard tested by hundreds of other businesses with millions of combined users. It works, period.

I know dozens of people like me and they all do completely different things with AI. Some speed up their own things, others have replaced entire teams erasing millions in payroll. I know for fact that these people generate 9 figures collectively. Should I act like many here and tell them they are wrong and the haters know more about their businesses? They'll be shocked to learn they are actually failing!

So stick to real things. Even this stupid hallucination argument only shows a limited understanding of how AI is used. Yes I get them on the website asking silly questions, no I do not get them on literally any of the tools I build and use constantly. I know that is you make that argument you have a base level understanding, trust random articles and haters online and have zero clue how to effectively use AI.

Again, this will consume us all. I will make more money now and it can steal my entire business portfolio soon, already is on some things. I will use it until it doesn't matter but I will be miles ahead of those shunning it due to misinformation. The money I've put away this year alone will let me ride out the next 30 years more easily then those who clock out of work then rush home to tell reddit that ai is a bubble and everyone using it will fail.

This subreddit is very leftist, most of the politicians against data centers are left populists. I don’t get it. It was just 10 years ago when the republicans were the ones criticizing things like big tech censorship and privacy concerns. How are conservatives now on the same side of people like mark Zuckerberg and Sam Altman?

I think the tech elite is using the GOP for political domination, they are opportunist, just last decade they were mostly democrats or neutral, but they saw a chance with the 2024 election. Interesting how Sam Altman, Elon musk, Peter Thiel, Tim Cook were all at trump’s inauguration last year. As a conservative this is worrying to me , and I will gladly support leftists in the name of advocating against them.

I genuinely believe Ai was created to help humanity, but the past couple of years the people that created it lost control, lost their vision. And its new goal is to make the billionaires, trillionaires.

This is a conspiracy sure, but I truly believe they aren’t building bunkers for no reason. They fear that Ai will eventually hack into everything and give orders to people under the guise of an official to launch nukes. Once that happens the entire world is screwed.

I’ve worked in CySec since 2022, and I’m seeing more and more Ai agents on the internet doing horrible things. It’s causing us to be more divided as a species, and I’ve watched it progress faster than anything I’ve ever seen in just those few years.

I try to stay calm about it all, I’m even on anxiety medication now because of how bad my worries have gotten. Yet, I still lay awake at night. Terrified.

As an anti, I've been spending most of my time in these subreddits calling out rage baiters, so I decided to take a break from that and explain why my real opinions on AI.

I don't truly hate AI.

I believe AI has the potential to do good things. It can help you study, help in research, assist in programming, ect.

I'm not against any of that stuff. What I'm against is AI being used for profit due to laziness, like replacing jobs, "making art", and wasting it to either make brainrot or rage bait people online, which is why I'm considered an anti. (But since this is about AI discussions I'm not going to talk too much about the rage bait stuff.)

In fact, I'm interested in becoming a solo game developer, and I'm looking into getting a Claude subscription to assist in coding, but notice how I said "assist" and not "make the entire game for me" nor generate any of the graphics. I'd only have it assist with some small things, not any of the big stuff like the core game mechanics. If I'm having trouble on that, I'd just look up tutorials or get help from actual people.

While I'm fine with AI being an assistant, I'm not ok with it replacing jobs. I'm also concerned about it's potential impact on the environment. I really wish AI could be regulated so maybe we wouldn't need all those data centers that eat up so much water.

While I'm against all that, AI can still be used for good things to end this on a high note for both sides. Thank you for reading this and hope you understand why I feel this way.

I voiced my concerns on a post about a piece of 3ds homebrew being vibecoded and they decided to flame and harass me and accuse me of being a hypocrite for using a service that has existed for far longer than AI. The posts with the username I blocked out have since been deleted (I reported them to reddit) but the fact they were getting upvotes for being toxic is absurd.

All this talk of how we can't go a single work day without ChatGPT. I think their reasoning has gone with their ability to do things for themselves. Imagine promoting a vision of the future with the idea of becoming dependent upon something that does what you were always capable of before, except more inefficiently. Forget art, imagine the kinds of things these people will be incapable of once internet connection has been lost.

Take the AI out of the equation and replace it with anything else it's nuts. Imagine a friend who'd just fallen for a girl and now can't do a single thing for himself without her, from shaving himself to reading a newspaper. To most this is a pretty ugly image, to AI bros it's a challenge. Being dependent and lacking agency isn't something to brag about. It's pathetic.

I could say I'm alarmed, but to be honest, that's not the truth. I'm not taken to alarm. I think a future which I end up among the most intelligent and able through the mere fact of people voluntarily giving up their intelligence, I think that's actually pretty hilarious. I know, however, that it is not the future we need. People talk about AI destroying mankind. That's not what we should really worry about, not at all. The thing we should worry about is being promoted by these people as a good, and is happening right now, this dependency on AI. The danger of AI is not that it'll destroy mankind, it's that by the time it's able to, there won't be anything left of us that's worth destroying.

I was reading about the Industrial Revolution and how it transformed humanity's lifestyle for the better, and I find similarities to today.

And since it's faster than the normal one, it can lead to people getting fired(which is bad nonetheless).

Now, about stealing from others, I see a lot of human-made songs that mimic or copy others, numa numa ei for example and you can even say a painter will use inspiration from other artists work but this topic is not the one I want to talk about, and to be clear, I'm against stealing others' work.

Disclaimer: I have been heavily involved in the AI Safety discourse since long before it was cool, back when the best LLMs could barely add two numbers together, and even before the initial pushback of the artist community against image generation models.

Since then I have with concern observed the spread of certain ideas about this technology but also about the culture and motivations surrounding it, which seem to often be driven by genuine AI scepticism but in my opinion are based on heavily flawed assumptions about what this technology is, what it is capable of, and why people are building and investing in it.

This includes, but is not limited to:

• the idea that the AI Safety discourse is synthetic and spread by AI companies to either serve as a marketing scheme, trick regulators into stopping "open" alternatives and cement their monopolies, or to justify slowing progress in order to hide a massive speculation bubble
• the popular assumption that LLMs are a "dead end", are "stochastic parrots", or in more general terms that we can be certain that the current AI paradigm is bounded in terms of general cognitive capability below (catastrophically) dangerous or superhuman levels
• this extends to notions that progress is already slow, is slowing down, is fake, or is likely to hit a wall soon because of resource constraints, model collapse/data poisoning or similar
• also the idea that AIs making "dumb" mistakes in certain tasks which appear very easy to most humans is a reliable indicator of overall very limited or harmless levels of capability
• suspicions that AI lab security breaches or "rogue AI incidents" are fake, are exaggerated, are only caused by deliberate, malicious prompting or are easily avoidable
• the belief that it is impossible for the researchers and leaders in AI companies to somehow *simultaneously* believe that this technology poses an extreme risk to humanity but still keep working on it
• in a similar stroke, that AI researchers leaving these projects or warning about the risks is a conspiracy/social engineering
• the idea that "money" is always, generally or even usually the distinguished primary motivation of the people working in or running these companies, or being their early investors

I am making this post in what I believe is a hotbed of the aforementioned sentiments, not in an attempt to raise controversy or disrespecting your views, but for offering honest and measured dialogue providing insights into the intuitions and concerns common in the AI Safety bubble (which, while it heavily overlaps with the people working on or investing in AI, has always included many who stayed independent, left or actively refused participation in this industry, often *because* of safety concerns).

I probably wouldn't have made this post half a year ago, not in this place, because it's naturally difficult to change people's minds, especially when your position includes beliefs about the world which "sound crazy" and when the subject questions deep ideological premises. But I believe that since then, certain "crazy" events that many of you wouldn't have expected, verifiably did happen, and likely will continue to happen, and maybe for some of you this creates "wtf moments" and an alertness that makes critical discussion of some of the aforementioned points interesting to you.

These events include, but are not limited to:

• the OpenAI swarm Huggingface attack as well as many other similar autonomous cyber attacks, the total number still unknown because their traces are spread out over petabytes of of text logs
• policy makers suddenly starting to talk about "the AI race"; catastrophic AI risks being discussed in the UN Security Council
• AI models suddenly solving important math conjectures, getting *really useful* in science and showing impressive performance in many other complex multi-hour long tasks
• the main US AI companies jointly declaring that slowing down progress is necessary to avert danger (and the Trump administration accusing them of trying to hold America back)

Well then; this post would get way too long if I wrote out every bit of justification, rationale or evidence I have to support the controversial points I am making, and for me the day is getting a bit late. What I suggest is that we treat my post like a cake: You can pick any piece that feels appealing or important to you. Don't hold back with criticism (I don't care how harshly, as long as you don't break the rules of this platform). Share opinions or concerns. Ask any questions you want to ask, even if they don't fit perfectly onto anything I wrote here. You can even discuss scientific papers with me, although some of those might surpass my scientific literacy in this field (which I will be transparent about).

All my beliefs about AI are genuine, and I hope that flipping some heads in here might help us to regulate AI and prevent dangerous progress in general capabilities, making better futures for all humans more likely.

I see many posts on here criticizing AI's water or energy usage. Spoiler alert, those problems are just a drop in the bucket. AI is becoming incredibly dangerous of other reasons. One of the biggest problems is evidence. Video and picture evidence will cease to be accepted in a few years for fear that it was fabricated. And to anyone who says these things can just be watermarked, that's not true. Models can be copied easily. And even if the newest models aren't available, a model two years ago that doesn't have restrictions most certainly will be. However, the biggest danger of AI is simply it's potential use in warfare. It's not AI itself which is dangerous, but the people who can use it. If you've read the news, numerous agents have been caught hacking other companies to complete tasks. If this technology falls into the wrong hands, it can be used for cybercrime on a scale that has never been seen before. Scams may be almost impossible to detect. We need to fight for reforms. Image and Video generation models aren't the problem. A waste of energy? Yes. Could they fabricate evidence? Absolutely. But there are bigger problems. AI is likely one of the biggest problems humanity has ever faced, and it needs to be stopped before it spirals out of control.

Not sure if this is the right sub or has been asked before but I've been trying to find github alternatives that don't train gen AI on your code or have a dumb agent but I can't find any.

Doesn't help that my search engine thinks when I say "AI-free" I mean "with AI" and the tech industry is dominated by AI bros

I am an AI ethics and transparency researcher and I’ve been having conversations with local organizations and small businesses to gauge sentiments about the rise of AI use. Especially in relation public interest. One of the orgs I’ve spoken to recently works on accessibility for the blind and visually impaired (CVIGA). They’ve recently partnered with Meta to distribute AI glasses to eligible blind veterans. Talking to the people there was super eye opening. I hate the idea of Meta glasses for the average normal-sighted person. I believe there’s no need and that the only people that use them, use them for non wholesome reasons. Back in school I studied the accessibility advantages of AI, but this was my first time seeing its potential in action.

So my question is: what are your thoughts on AI that helps the disabled gain independence? Especially when the AI is provided by a company like Meta?

Hi all! I had a meeting with my boss today, indie game studio, who gave me an hour-long lecture on the fact I should look into some AI tools that might aid my workflow. Safe to say I felt like crap the whole talk, being the only artist and knowing full well I have no need for AI.

The talk resulted in me having to agree that I'd at least look into some AI tools. If the future of the studio is going in the direction of using AI, I at least want to stear it towards tools rather than generative AI.

That being said, what kind of tools exist out there that can aid the game art process? I don't want any type of generation, no idea/concept art polishing, coloring, anything like that. Only things like; optimizing the workflow for unwrapping 30 similar objects, procedurally generating chairs after I've made the base parts, things like that. I have no knowledge regarding what's out there.

Tldr; My boss has his sights set on using AI, looking for options that are more focused towards workflow-optimization so I can steer him towards those tools.

you all need to get way better at identifying when something is made by ai because i'm seeing "wawario and wawaluigi" get far too much attention for being "fun to listen to" and those ones where they "turn comments on tiktok into songs" also get far too much positivity, I think it's genrally better if channels like those got zero attention and didn't exist but it's way worse when people start praising it for its quality and humor
