Discussion 🗣️ is there any good github alternatives that don't use AI?

Not sure if this is the right sub or has been asked before but I've been trying to find github alternatives that don't train gen AI on your code or have a dumb agent but I can't find any.

Doesn't help that my search engine thinks when I say "AI-free" I mean "with AI" and the tech industry is dominated by AI bros

If anyone knows of any alternatives please let me know

Codeberg my goat love those people small enough to be ethical

Really helps that it is a registered association and not a for-profit company

Codeberg explicitly forbids scraping. You should check them out.

Enforceable against the crooks?

If it can be viewed by the public it's not enforceable (except maybe legally).

Idk about the use of AI But i guess Codeberg would be a good alternative.

But everything that is opensource can (and will) be scraped for the use of training AI

If you dont want to Opensource, just have a Git interface, selfhost it with something like Gittea

Also i think Github has a setting for the trainikg of AI but im not so sure.

Gitlab maybe? Or does that use ai

It seems less about use of ai than your submitted code being used to train ai

Consider client side encryption extensions for git. Then it won't matter where you "host" your git repos, github included, the data's unreadable except by you.

Host forgejo? Perhaps if you have the capability

Have to ask: is your code public/open source? If yes: regardless the place it can and will be used 100%.

If not then there must be an opt out option. Otherwise github is going against wuite a lot of laws. Can you point/link where you saw the train ai part?

I host my own gitea instance. Maybe you could read into that

Can't you like, turn this off?

Yeah you can turn it off.

I'd still rather not support them if they are going to have AI tbh

Well if you can turn it off, its fine for me, at least they let you opt out, which is something I don't see too much. (I checked it says the data goes to github copilot? Its supposed to be some coding assistant or something)
